Any advice from Club on Coronavirus?

Sorry to say but if what we witnessed on our 'Italian cruise' is anything to go by then I'm not surprised.
The social niceties aside passengers hygiene left a lot to be desired. Most cruise ships we have been on have hand sanitisers at the gang way to use on return to the ship, these are also at entrances to any eatery.
The main reason for this is to prevent Norovirus, highly contagious and unpleasant for a few days. If ships Dr is informed you are cabin confined for 48 minimum.
While we were on the cruise Corona had just reached its peak in China, we even had a Corona scare on the first day of the cruise, so you would have thought that passengers would have been more careful about hygiene, not what we witnessed I'm afraid.
If this were replicated across the country, coupled with the amount of people who were allowed to leave the affected area then is it any surprise that they find themselves in the situation they are now in. Not the best disciplined nation it would seem.

But that is not what TDA said at all:
Italy is like a third world country in places
I agree from first hand knowledge that TDA is fully correct, there are places where it does, especially off the beaten (tourist) track and more so the further south you go. Huge differences in income too.
There is obviously something amiss there with the disparity in figures with the rest of Europe and even comparing Italy with neighbouring countries, not to say we'll be better off, but there is a significant spike.
As I said maybe to do with social cultures and medical reasons,

I did read a few days ago that Italy has the second largest elderly population, after Japan. How true that is, I don't know, it's what I read. But if true, then that could account for some of it, as elderly people appear to be more at risk of catching it and dying from it if they catch it.
Being the "wrong side" of 60, both OH and myself are more at risk, OH more so due to having had a (single) heart bypass 14 years ago. He is, thankfully, fit and well, and has had no problems since, but the fact remains that he does have heart disease, so is at higher risk.

Just a gentle reminder that this thread was allowed to remain in place because it specifically asked the question re the Corona Virus and how it might impact on UK sites and the Club's might deal with it. Please avoid comparisons with other countries and their health service which would be better discussed in the thread in the overseas section.
Thanks
David

I believe we have all been made aware of good hygiene practice when in public. In addition, we have been advised of the latest strategy which may or may not change during the course of the outbreak.
Just wondered if anyone had a mitigation plan if you are unfortunate enough to become infected when staying on site. There is a possibility that the driver of the motorhome/caravan may be incapacitated from the illness. Obviously some units may contain two drivers, but this is not always the case.
In such circumstances, I wonder if the wardens would allow a one-off delivery of groceries to the door of the unit so that the member(s) can be effectively quarantined for a period of time.
Is anyone aware if the club has a plan if someone on site becomes infected?
BTW, Cheltenham brings in £100M to the local economy over its 4 days. Would hate to think the decision to keep Cheltenham going was money led as opposed to science led.

I personally feel that depending on your CC location, you will be actually safer there than if you live in an city environment as long as you try to adopt the 9 foot distance rule when being with others.
We are planning to go away in three weeks, and hope do do plenty of country walking and avoid shops and pubs.
As for the CC showers...it is a known fact that the virus tends to break down on contact with soap, so theoretically, the risk is reduced. Toilets are a different matter, and I would advise using your own.

Thanks for the offer Nellie. We still hope to go abroad in May but may switch from Italy to France, however, if things are still bad then then the UK would be an option. CLs make sense but Club sites probably OK especially if using your own sanitary facilities. Perhaps we could check in remotely and avoid the reception area!

A big increase in uk cases today, I expect opinions about taking breaks in the UK will change and some sites including CLs may not be available?
We had thought about a fairly isolated CL for a stay but I suspect CL owners will not want the possibility of infection.
Good to hear some help is being given to the leisure industry to ride out the storm but I think it will be a big hit for many.

I believe Green Flag will take the outfit home if the driver cannot? Whether the recovery driver would be happy to have possible infected people in his truck is another matter?

For those interested in the statistics of the virus, it may well be worth looking HERE. If you scroll down to the table of countries, those in blue and underlined are linked to a more detailed analysis of each country. The UK has a detailed link....

I note from the link above that the UK has the 4th lowest increase today of the top 16 countries. So I guess that we are doing better than most at containment and that the directions from the Government are being heeded by many people.

so much negativity, think positive, i was at a school music concert last night and was impressed by the positivity from all concerned and the measures put in place to help the school stay virus free, where is that bulldog spirit, if we have to wash our hands a hundred times a day then so be it if it keeps this virus at bay. I see the government are going incease the number being tested starting tomorrow, i think to 10k

I like to be positive but I received a text from our doctor’s surgery today saying they are closing due to a suspected case and if you need to see a doctor it will be a video link.

A lot of those with a higher number of new cases had far fewer overall cases that the UK had just a few days ago, eg USA, Netherlands, to name just 2

One would hope that in extreme cases that the club will allow an extension of their 21 day rule should the circumstances arise.
I know if I was on site and became infected that the probabilities of needing to be hospitalised would be higher than not, so Mrs WN both wouldn't be able to tow the caravan home and couldn't expect the recovery driver to expose himself to risk of infection just to get her home. In addition it's more than likely she would need to self isolate for at least 14 days.
I know it's all supposition but isn't that what this thread is about? The club would need to act in her interest, hopefully, and arrange food drops etc. and extend her stay if necessary. One hopes so anyway.
If I could drive home and self isolate at home then that is the course of action I would take.

USA is a big and diverse country. Massachusetts and New York State had similar per capita numbers to UK a couple of days ago.
5 days ago WHO figures were showing Netherlands around 80 cases and UK around 120 cases. I still don't expect our progress to be much better.

Personally I like to be realistic rather than blindly positive and I do not determine many realistic precautions being observed and I doubt that I shall until fear changes peoples' actions. And no I am not taking any precautions myself. However in my case it might be due to a lack of local cases and the fact that I don't attend gatherings at present. When we go on our travels in a few weeks times I may be more cautious.

The club, as an employer has a duty of care to their employees. Given the wardens are in a customer/public facing role It is possible sites may have to be closed to protect staff. Applies equally to any caravan site, hotel etc. I am not being negative, simply stating a possibility. However i hope that we can still enjoy some of our booked UK caravan breaks over the next few months. Whether we get to Austria in August or Italy in September is open for review.
