Coronavirus Worries

I'd heard that the French can continue the kissing but now it's strictly 'no tongues' ..., not even those from your shoes [never know what they've been in contact with until you see the mark on the carpet!].

I think it’s going to be difficult for a lot of folks with set plans and upcoming events sadly. Lots of weddings, special retirement holidays, once in a life time trips. Let’s just hope that the effort around being sensible, following scientific advice is a world wide policy.🤞

As I understand it, a couple of days ago it was stated on the BBC that there were 51 cases in the UK. What they didn't say was that, apparently, 11 of these cases had, at that point, fully recovered so, in fact, there was only 40 cases. Having 51 cases is obviously a more scary story than having 40 cases. I can't vouch for the validity of the information source but as time goes by it stands to reason that if people don't die they must recover. If figures are going to be quoted they must separately show current and recovered cases.

Who’d have thought that two months ago when ‘Sanchas’ first posted, that it would have come to this? One or two of the initial posts made me smile, in retrospect. As I’ve already said, I’m not too worried about being infected, although it might be rather unpleasant, but rather the implications. We’ve been looking forward for a long time to getting over to France this year. I rather suspect we won’t be going ☹️

I’m not worried for me, but I would be concerned for those around me who are more vulnerable. I share caring for someone with dementia, which is hard enough as it is. I just hope to be sensible and minimise what risks I can.

Took a parcel in today from an "Amazon" delivery man as the neighbour wasn't in. He handed it to me and I immediately went and washed my hands.Well, after I closed the door I did. What can you do except be vigilant?
We are all bound to come into contact with persons unknown or even those that we know but do not know who they've been in contact with. Who is a carrier and who isn't?
It's all luck but you can certainly help yourself by your actions. It's what we intend to do and it's merely an extension of our normal way of living but for some it's a sea change. Let's hope they remember and also carry on the new regime when things return to normal.

The bbc news did quote the figures you have given eventually, reported cases has increased and the situation is not good, but the information i have seen that the total now fully recovered is 15+ and for sure this number will increase and as far as the info goes no reported deaths in the uk, there is now also a slow down in reported cases in Australia and China, fingers crossed.

I know exactly what you mean, I had a meeting yesterday and of course shook hands with a number of total strangers before we all went in
After meeting them I went through into an office and as soon as I was out of sight I got the hand sanitizer out, yes totally silly or whatever but I did it anyway.

not silly or whatever, we should not be embarrased about doing this and being up front now will help stop the spread and make the process more of the norm if the situation should get worse

You are acting in a responsible fashion MrC, a fashion that will inevitably help the many👍🏻

Apologies if you’ve seen this site before, but it does seem to give comprehensive numerical data on a worldwide basis.

When the Police in the US have tasered a person for panic buying of toilet paper, I think we need a sense of humour ...
I had a heart attack in Spain 5 weeks ago so am being reasonably cautious about contact etc. It would be criminal for my 3 stents to become redundant after so short a period because of a fatal dose of coronavirus.
Is it called coronavirus because a fatal dose causes you to go 'pop'?
It's being so cheerful that keeps me going. Still, mustn't grumble, eh?

I agree with you it is a difficult decision to make as the virus has not reached its peak here or in Europe. It is perfectly possible that it is all over blown but I would say the evidence suggests something different. We were in Waitrose today and I was surprised how busy it was and how many almost empty shelves there were. The same could happen anywhere in Europe and probably in some parts of Italy is already happening. I don't envy the decision you have to make.

I was at the Bernabéu stadium last Wednesday, 80,000 people there, at Wembley at the weekend, 80,000 people there, at Hillsborough last night....
Tomorrow, I’ll be in Burnley, shopping and returning books to the library. Keep clear, people....

It's reached the stage where, if you hear the word 'cough', you're not quite sure if it's a comment on your cold, or an instruction to go away for fear of spreading infection ...

Corona.help is a live updated website showing infections throughout Europe. Spain has had an extra 141 infections today, currently 400, ten days ago it was 13. We`ve decided to give it up partly because of the length of time on the ferry, Sunday through Tuesday, we are also in the higher risk group due age but at least no medical issues.

If there is a high risk that I am going to be ill I would rather be ill where I speak the language fluently to ask for the help I need. Maybe there isn't a high risk but no body really knows..
