Went into our local town today. There's a Chinese restaurant next to the car park. A notice in the window states they'll be closed for a period of self-isolation as they've returned from an area where there has been outbreaks of the virus. It does state that they have been checked over by the NHS and given a clean bill of health. First one I know about.
Has anyone actually cancelled due to their worries? Or are those who are due to travel still going? We're still going next week unless something untoward happens or we are told not to.

We cancelled a two week cruise from Barbados due to leave two days ago. No recompense so a big hit financially.

I'm hoping our eldest daughter will get to the West Indies in April, one holiday already cancelled due to Thomas Cook folding and a previous one lost due to a terrorist incident. Whether it's going to be three out of three waits to be seen, I feel sorry as this is a special break for her. Also sorry to hear you've cancelled Hitchglitch, the next few weeks are going to prove difficult for everyone whatever they are doing, at home or away.

Fortunately I did not hit the 'book now' button on a cruise we were interested in taking later this year...but we are still booked on the Hull/Rotterdam ferry (28 March) for our annual monthly trip to Holland...and currently, according to Red Pennant, we cannot cancel unless the Government orders travel restrictions...or a Doctors certificate saying 'against medical advice'...

Same answer that I got from Red Pennant, along with any other country within the EU enforcing restrictions on our travel ...... no refund. I have delayed travel booking and RP insurance/breakdown for a few weeks, might even get a discount if the bookings are down

still planning to travel France/Spain 14th April, in fact moved caravan this morning just to check mechanics still work ok, new mover fitted back end of last year so wanted to check battery levels , and put some air in the tyres, all ok

Personally, I wouldn’t want to fly or cruise at the moment. I would be looking carefully at the country I was looking to stay in, mainly around health care system, general welfare and economy of indigenous population. Then consider personal risk, and that of any vulnerable person I might need to come into contact with. Will it be relatively easy to avoid crowded places, live well on a daily basis without unnecessary social interaction? Touring probably rates well on this scale, if a few extra precautions are taken, such as being careful on ferries, when visiting supermarkets, buying fuel etc... A degree of self isolation is probably just as easy in a touring outfit as it is staying at home with care. A good bit nicer in sunshine as well. Down side might be lots of interesting places not open to visit, eating out will up the risk factor.
You can’t factor in things like accidents altering plans of course, but again, they could happen at home. It’s an individual thing really.

Things are clearly going to get worse but how much worse nobody knows. In a month or two there could be serious questions about whether to travel or not. You’re quite safe sitting in your van/motorhome or walking outside and fortunately most caravans and motorhomes are self sufficient so could do without using the sanitation facilities. That just leaves reception, fuel stations and shops. Might think twice about ferries and tunnel if things are really bad so maybe UK sites only (that would be a first!).

things will get worse, but 51 cases now in the UK of which 11 have now fully recovered and are up and about, and some of those at the bottom of the pile are well on the road to recovery, so maybe 40 cases out of a population of 60 million or so

I don’t do staycations JV, I simple choose to enjoy myself in this country doing what I enjoy, with the dog. Spain is high on our list to do the same, but not with a dog. We tend to gravitate towards less populated areas for our holidays, so Spain sounds absolutely wonderful. The SE of England on the other hand is my kind of touring hell.........far too many human beings, I prefer four legged or winged company. Been there of course (SE), and very beautiful in places, lots to see and do. But I let someone else do the driving around all those packed roads.

As you previously said Ttda, touring tends to lend itself to a bit of isolation and we'll be doing quite a bit of that. Our itinerary will generally entail quite a bit of biking, a lot of visiting lowly populated nature reserves or walking on sparsely populated hills. The campsite will, if previous years are anything to go on be only a third full so we'll pitch accordingly. All of these things will be normal to us.
We don't eat out as it's hard enough in the UK with allergies never mind abroad so that just leaves supermarkets and fuel. The latter shouldn't be a problem either as we can fill up at any time so will choose when it's convenient with not many people around and probably use the pay at the pump facility. For shopping we'll avoid markets and try to use the shops when there is little foot traffic. We'll avoid going to Barcelona or to any museums. Not the end of the world. They'll still be there next time.
I know with my health problems that I fall into the vulnerable category so already use the sensible hygiene standards. The ferries are going to be the big problem but again I usually take my own food and we have a cabin booked so may self isolate to a great extent.
As I have previously said I could quite easily succumb if I stay in the UK. So we'll take precautions but fully intend to go and enjoy ourselves (hopefully).
Can't say I'm enjoying seeing the pound plummeting on the exchanges.

My sister and husband have just had to cancel their trip to Venice, although this is outside the FCO warning area they've been told that many places are closed or closing. It's probably worth finding out what's happening locally wherever you hope to travel. especially if you have any medical conditions (my BIL has) that could affect you.

A virus tends to spread in a Fibonacci sequence which has famously been used to describe how rabbits breed. The Fibonacci sequence is a set of numbers where each is the sum of the previous two, hence, 1,1,2,3,5,8,13, .... The point being that it starts slowly but accelerates more and more rapidly until something stops it. Myxomatosis, patient isolation etc. Time to be just a little bit worried?

Yes. Sitting in your own vehicle has to be better. OH would say - what do we do if we are in rural France and have symptoms? Fair point I suppose. Some of the places we have been to are quite inaccessible - air ambulance being one way out.
