As in my post "I am about (maybe) to book the tunnel", the exclusion mentioned was referring to cancellation. It means if I book and pay travel arrangements now and respective countries then bring in travel restrictions, then I cannot get my money back.

So I think I'll hold back a few weeks and see how it pans out.

I’ve already booked and paid for my crossing, along with other expenses. I’m not particularly worried about the virus itself, but it’s implications. We go (France) mid May, so will have to make a decision closer to the time, depending on events.

Usually it is down to what Govenment advice is from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office regarding travel as to how travel insurance companies consider claims. If the advice is don't travel you may well get your money back.

have similar except we are doing Portsmouth Caern out and in, there was a mention in the press today re taking a look at the schengen agreement, Austria are already restricting access from Italy, not too bothered re catching the virus but could be difficult stuck on the Costas and the dilema could be , do you risk a flight home and leave your rig in spain , do not fancy flying anywhere just now, or do you just sit it out, have paid for ferry out and i do have RP insurance , but not too bothered about losing a few hundred pds if a good move maybe not to go at all.

Well before our trip to Spain/France with the caravan in April, we have 3 weeks in Lanzarote to go to first. OH just read on the web that a hotel in Tenerife is now in lock down surprised

Flights/cruise ships/ferries will always carry risks with the A/C we went on a cruise in the southern Caribbean a few years ago, the flight was from Newcastle. While on the cruise a fair number of  passengers came down with respiratory infections us included. The majority from the Newcastle flight, all showed signs within 5 - 7 days of flying.

It hasn't put us off travelling but we do take a few precautions that we wouldn't normally have done.

Personal hygiene is vital, we both carry antiseptic hand wash and use it regularly. I always have Tea tree oil with me and a spritzer bottle so if someone near me starts to cough and splutter on a plane I give my area a quick spray.  laughing

I never book ahead - not sites nor ferries. This virus is one more reason for me to sit it out for the time being  and see how the land lies in three month's time. If we decide to go cross channel in June I know I can get a ferry a week or so in advance.

Other people in other places have bigger problems .We have a son in Hong Kong whose businesses have crashed because of virus panic and forced him to make 50 staff redundant , and two grandchildren there whose schools have been closed for some weeks,  with no sign of them reopening.

I've already booked the ferry although I don't travel until June. I would imagine things will be resolved by then.

I suspect it is far too early for the full extent of this virus to be known. If we were going abroad this year we could certainly leave a decision for the time being. Probably lots of people are, so there should be room on Shuttles and ferries at a later stage, maybe even at a better price? There is anecdotal evidence that the spread of the virus has started to decline in China, hopefully we can believe that information? Outbreaks in Europe are quite small thus far but we have no idea if or when they will peak. Obviously as time goes on and we start to get some warmer weather this in itself might help fight off the spread of the virus in Europe. In the meantime we can all help ourselves by practising good hand hygiene to help stop the spread of germs.

I have read medical reports to the effect that the virus becomes less active as temperature increases (it’s like the common cold in that respect) and becomes inactive at 30 deg. C. or in high humidity so Spain would seem to be a good choice.

I hope that is correct as we are about to fly to somewhere hot and OH is paranoid about travelling. Whether she believes my medical advice or not is, however, highly questionable.

Also it seems those who are "older" and normally with current medical problems ,are most at risk,  as with most winter virusessurprised ,

I gather the virus is spread by touch, do a lot of hand washing. For many people the virus is not any more dangerous than flu However for the elderly and people with pre existing health conditions the risks are higher.I would keep a close eye on the situation if it was me.A missed or postponed holiday is disappointing but not a disaster.

Just remember in any public areas,      that there are many out there who do not think of others when talking about hygiene    , so even if you do,,     there are numerous areas that are "unclean" from others ,even on club sites you may wash your hands   ,did the last person to use the doors on the facility block before you when leaving?undecided

It is not just "coughs and sneezes that spread diseases "surprised

Too bxxxx true judging by the mess left in the toilets at a Club site last week. Two days running it was absolutely disgusting. I felt really sorry for the wardens who had to clear it up..

Spritzer bottle bought in 'Superdrug' other shops are available. I mix a few drops of teatree with a bit of spirit (vodka) and then add water, the spirit allows you to 'mix' with water otherwise the oil just sits on top, it works without but better with. Great for spray in the home if someone has a cold.
