Perhaps they are tied into one supplier for an extended period, and it would cost them dearly to get out of the contract.

If they have then why are they stating that prices have increased?

A good deal would be lower costs.  As we have just switched to.

Possibly,  but most commercial deals are only 1-3 years, fixed prices.

OH looks after our local Guide Hall, so knows about negotiating 2-3 year deals.

That just doesn't make sense, prices go up even on the lowest price plan ever. You could be on the lowest their is but if the price goes up then that's it.

You have switched you say, have you guarantee your price won't go up in some time in the future? Even if it a fixed price beware that they can also be more expensive than the cheapest plan. The companies have to make money somehow?

Anyway, commercial contracts will be quite different and open to negotiation. You can’t use U Switch for them. 😀

No, you use a specialised commercial switching service.

    Or you negotiate yourself .

We have a 1 year fix, then we can switch again if we wish.

We were with our previous supplier about 2.5 years as they offered a good deal and were excellent to deal with, but our new supplier offers prices that are 15% lower now

Yes, OH has negotiated a good deal for our Guide Hall, but as they are very low users, it is not as good a deal as would be available to those who use a lot more.

Yes, that’s my point and no doubt they will have negotiated a very good deal. 👍🏻

Which is what I would expect, so why are they saying electricity prices are a reason for increasing pitch prices?

Sounds like increasing use of electricity is more significant

Because, as Corners pointed out, prices go up unless it's a fixed price deal but contracts end and have to be renegotiated and that's always at a price higher than the previous contract. None of us are in a position to know and this is all pure speculation.

The commercial contracts are a fixed price for 1-2-3 years, a business would not go into a non fixed price contract that they could not get out of.

Yes, if starting a new contract, prices may go up, but if our experience is anything to go by, there are lower prices out there, so increased costs are not necessarily the only result.

Our Guide Hall uses less fuel than our house, yet OH has been able to negotiate a 2 year contract that gives a good deal.  A large user like CAMC should be able to negotiate a much better deal.

And they probably have but contracts end.......

I'm not sure why people feel they could do better than CAMC when the club employs people who are up to speed and well used to sorting out this type of contract.

But still no reason why the club should replicate that? Spend money that cannot be recouped under UK law, don't really see any point in that?

That is not correct Corners. Site owners are allowed to recoup the costs of the infrastructure, what they cannot do is make a profit on consumption.

As far as I am concerned a reduction to 10 Amps would make no difference at all to what I would use. If by chance I thought I was going to excede 10 amps, I would do exactly as I do when on a 6 amp supply. I would simply reduce or switch off something just for the duration of the expected overload after which full power would again be resumed.

Others may not see it that way and may decide to use sites providing 16amp or even metered electricity!

Yes OK but then the only way to do that is increase pitch fees?

How many complain bitterly about how high they are at present and how they cannot afford club prices? So what is the point of installing meters using current money and then put up prices? Who benefits? I thought your thinking was that installing meters would reduce prices now you're saying it won't?

What would members want? meters and higher prices or things as they are?

+1. If such people are so good at getting such fantastic deals why don't they offer to work for the club?

And with all due respect comparing a guide hut to the club's 200 sites is really nonsense.

Where have I said pitch prices will rise Corners? I have always argued that they should reduce. Even if I have that wrong and pitch price pluse metered electricity actually works out more than the current inclusive price, I still think metering would be a better system because it gives the Club better control of costs and the customer choice of how much or how little to use.

Not sure that it gives the club better control but it does give the customer more control. But does the customer want that? I don't.

As with most (relatively) large scale sites the use of a blanket price does, I suspect, mean that users are paying way more than the cost of electricity in summer and less than cost in WInter. If the cost of Winter electric usage was fully included in pitch fees then the club would be at a competitive loss against other operators during that time of year.

    Just my thoughts

    Well you did, you wrote

Site owners are allowed to recoup the costs of the infrastructure, what they cannot do is make a profit on consumption.

So if the club spends £200,000 (and probably £500,000) on installing these meters you want and as you say they can't get the money back by 'consumption' then the only way to get that money back is to have higher prices? What other way is there?

because it gives the Club better control of costs

How, surly that is totally up to the people on the pitch, the club simply pays what they use?

Yes it is nonsense. A small use of energy building compared to the club? A ridiculous comparison.

And I know more about guide huts and how they are run through OH  than K. Details and proof on request.

    And really are insults necessary?

Judging by your response to K and to others rubbishing their contributions as nonsense, rather than simply saying why you disagree, it would seem so.

It is all about choice of words.

Corners, I see where you are coming from, my mistake. Where I was coming from is that nightly costs shouldn't rise and I have always argued that.

ET the Club is already at a disadvantage in off peak, many commercial sites are cheaper especially if you have no dog and no awning. A reduction to 10amps can only make the choice to go elsewhere easier.

I think that metered worse would intensify that

i may be wrong but i have a feeling the post from the club (in one of the many 'rising prices' threads) that the 'electric bill' had risen by 20% which made me note (shocked) how much it was...

The question is 20% over what period? I thought that in 2019 there were significant increases in unit cost
