No, the chipmunk was definitely land-based. In some woodland close to the Montmorency Falls near Quebec City.

On Cirencester club site this week  and surprised to see the ring necked parakeets flying around the site did not realise that they had spread this far, personally not keen on them as they are very noisy  and have been at the brid feeders some folk have put out.

Off to Slimbridge on Friday nearly three years since we have been.

That's one bird that I hope doesn't spread northwards. Noisy little blighters and they scare the little birds off.

Enjoy your day at Slimbridge RK.

    Hi Red Kite.

Took a quick trip there this afternoon as the sun was shining.

There are only a few Bewicks so far, but should be a few more by next week. The Discovery Hide on South Lake is probably the most populated at present with Godwitts, knott, etc but not the best for photos unless early morning or an overcast day as the light is in the wrong direction. The new hide that replaces the old Holden hide is due to be opened 15/16th Nov if you are still in the area by then. The non-resident (wild) birds are spending a lot of time either asleep or on the estuary this week, but from mid afternoon they flood in for feeding at 4.00pm outside the Rushy Pen, where I spend most of my visits.

There has been considerable change this year but not all developments have been completed, so I guess you will see quite a change.

Each time I have been lately, there has been a large increase in numbers, so hopefully you will have a good visit.

Thanks BM not a lot about we were later getting there due to other issues but enjoyed the trip did ask a few folk and said a quiet day due to the very strong cold wind from the north and did see a few Berwick swans and as you said a lot of changes and work being done, if I had been on my own would have stayed longer but OH only manages a short time there also not a member but did get discount for him.

Visiting Steart next month as visiting an old friends and they only live about half a mile from Steart so will combine the visit and a long time since I have been in that area, also hope to get down to the levels as well.

‘Tis a bit hit or miss at the moment with all the work going on and the winter birds not all here yet.

Speaking to a regular visitor to Steart told me the SEO  has arrived, if you pass the car park and head towards the beach, you will come across a rise in the road with a bit of a bend, about half way to the beach, you will probably see a few cars parked. This is the usual place to get the best view of the Owls mid afternoon.

Think we'll plump for Cley on our Norfolk visit. I've only seen snow buntings on top of the Cairngorms so Cley should be easier!

We had a big flock of fieldfares on our Apple trees yesterday, no doubt they'll be back for more.

A flock of about 7 of them flew over our garden today.

Can’t possibly be escapees, but really surprised to see them in this area.

Must admit I’ve ticked them off in the garden list, but hope they don’t take a liking to our feeders 😱🦜

We get the odd parakeet passing here and wonder if they are pushed over from Holland in easterly winds.  Quite a big flock hangs around the Delft caravan site

Saw a solitary parakeet winging its way along the Thames downstream from  Chertsey bridge today during our perambulations.

At Clumber yesterday and witnessed a Jay and a squirrel having a squabble. Not sure who won but the face-off was fascinating.

On Wednesday I went to the Hen Reedbed to watch the Murmuration (expert reckoned 32000), truly spectacular, if it stays dry might return today.  Have a friend who is longing to see one.

I see Waxwings have been seen in Lowestoft.

A while back I was sat  watching the TV when there was a bump on the patio door and lay on the patio stunned was a drop dead gorgeous kingfisher I've seen a few but never this close, so it was placed in a box and the RSPCA called I then decided to transfer him into a better box and that's when I found how powerful their beaks are, it was duly collected checked over and released

We had similar with a great spotted woodpecker, sadly didn't survive but beautiful close up.

This week the birds have been literally flocking into our garden, so we've had the usual long tailed tits in large numbers, also a tree creeper and our resident blackcaps are becoming more visible. Not to mention the grey squirrel who seems to be a permanent feature. I found a blackbirds nest when I was out gardening today, very close to our windows but we never spotted the activity!

Back to the garden now, more work to do. smile

Went back to Lowestoft but no Waxwings found.  Had a walk along Breydon Water, lots of geese passing overhead but few waders as tide was right in.

We saw Hawfinches at Fountains Abbey yesterday, a first for us. Plenty of Redwings around as well. Couple of Red Kites wheeling around over Spofforth as we drove through.

Had a walk along the Wirral Way seeing quite a few Redwings, a couple of Fieldfares, 2 pairs of Bullfinches, and a Goldcrest. Also a few Goosanders and Red Breasted Mergansers on the Marine Lake at West Kirby and then 3 Marsh Harriers and a Ringtail at Parkgate. Plenty of waders on the estuary as well. Good day's birding.
