Providing they realise that this year, and maybe a year or two in the future, was probably an accident of the calendar and at some point we will go back to all schools having the same week for half term

Although going back to a single week's half term holiday nationwide is possible, but unlikely, I'd very much doubt that the CC would follow that example. They are extending the period of peak prices whenever they think they can. They will soon be having peak period stretching from a week before Easter till the end of September at the rate they are going, and that's not including 3 weeks over the X-mas period and both the early and late half terms.

The October half term seem to be the main 'culprit' and it's been going on for quite a few years up here with Newcastle, Northumberland, Durham, Sunderland and South Tyneside schools are having different weeks in various combinations. It causes a lot of problems as teachers from all over those places travel and work in neighbouring areas, as do families on the 'borders' who children may attend a primary in one and secondary in another.
