New Booking System for Overseas Travel

Well I'm glad I made my booking before the new system.
Haven't tried it yet but from reading the last 3 pages it doesn't inspire me to do so.
Like AD, I'm not interested in booking sites abroad through the club, why would you. All I require is a ferry crossing price and an overview of alternate dates and times on the toute I have chosen.
Seems until its sorted it would be best to have a friends code for BF or be a member of the other club and do your booking through them.
Reading Rowenas post it would appear they want feed back through the link she provided not on this thread

May I please throw in the question of amendments to ferry bookings and ask whether the Club's new booking system allows for this to be done on line now.
If I book a Flexi ticket directly with Brittany Ferries I can amend that booking on line, free of charge, up to four hours before outward departure. And if I book their ferry as two separate single journeys then I can change the second half four hours before departure too - on line, free of charge.
Amendments to ferry bookings with the Club have always been Please phone this office in working hours Monday to Friday, but not on Bank Holidays, listen to the recorded instructions, then be told that we are experiencing a high volume of calls but your call is important to us, listen to the music, and so on....it can take a long while, even if you are calling from overseas.
I do hope all that has been streamlined under the new arrangements. Does the Club now do Flexi?

Rowena says in her original post on this subject that ".... we've created an easy to use booking system"
I have been taking an early look at ferries etc for next year's trip. I tried a dummy booking by firstly adding Site Night Vouchers. After adding a ferry, the vouchers were nowhere to be seen. Then the system apparently allows you to enter and book two different routes for your crossings. But the answer you get is for routes to and from the same ports.
After a number of tries, I gave up. I'll wait a while whilst the system is sorted out. You have to wonder who creates these fiascos.

the time to review systems and ask for opinions etc is in an IT phase known as 'user testing'.
this is NOT carried out in the live environment....
i thought i had read that releasing the booking system for Overseas travel was just the first phase and that this system would bedome the bedrock of the 'new' system in all markets??
lots to do before then.

As you can imagine the new software is bedding in and will be a work in progress over the next week or so.
To state the above following the release of a new system which folk are supposed to trust for booking ferries / campsites is poor in the extreme.☹️ As BB says all this should have been ironed out before the system became live.

I’m no expert but the last IOS upgrade I got goofed up my pad, it took 2 further updates to get it right . . .That was from the multi $billion dollar Apple inc. so I reckon the C&MC doing an Apple inc-they’ll take that😂😂

That's true, although you do have the choice of wether to download it. I'm still on iOS 12. something on my phone ( the only one of our devices that will upgrade to 13) I'm never one to jump in when it's first released.
Unfortunately with the new CC booking system you have no choice if you want to book through the club.

Wise words there, Steve - “I'm never one to jump in when it's first released“. I reckon you’d do well to heed your own words regarding booking through the club.

I entirely agree with you which is why I’m leaving the bothering to the regular users.👍🏻

+1, you got there first, I also saw the anomaly👍🏻

the sad thing is that CC dont seem to learn from their IT mistakes. many's the time weve had changes thrust upon us that just have not be thoroughly tested, leaving users to pick up the pieces but with a team that are glacially slow to react on e an issue has been found.
this overseas effort is just plain bad, in design and xedution but luckily will become the model for the 'exiting' new UK system soon...
time to look to BF website i think.

in my working life, when moving to other suppliers' software, we always stayed on 'current version minus one', not moving to the next version until another had been released beyond that....far safer, especially if your business depends on it.
IT life running on the latest versions is likely to be hard, painful work and was know in the business as the 'bleeding edge' for obvious reasons.
CC dont seem to have grasped the fundamentals of Release Management.
irrespective of how crappy their software design is, there are still decent standards to observe regarding the testing and release processes that seem to have gone by the board....again.

Contact Apple & give them your cutting edge insights BB as they seem very lax these days😕

Hi Eurotraveller,
Thank you for your feedback. The system has been live now for a number of days and we are encouraged by all of the member feedback received so far.
Our plan has been to ‘soft launch’ the new booking engine and take feedback from members to help improve the system iteratively.
Members were involved in a number of workshops during the very early stages of developing the requirements for the new booking engine.
Thank you again for your feedback, please be assured this will be fed back into the team.
Kind Regards
Tracy

Roughly translated that means ' we'll slip it in quietly and let the punters find the bugs"

If the new format is easy to use then I must be IT illiterate! Previously you selected France crossing and it came up with all the options. The tunnel crossing was separate. Now you only get ONE option.
Why is it that every time someone fiddles with the system, the website becomes more unfriendly? Are the IT team trying to justify their existence? We also have a staff member stating feedback in positive, but not according to the last couple of pages on this thread.
Just noticed that if you have a twin axle yo need to phone and cannot do the booking Online????????
Is this an early April Fool joke?

Trying to book a crossing Portsmouth to Caen return, but comes up with message "There was an error" but does not tell you what the error is???????
Why does the CMC try to make things as difficult for members as possible and then tell every one it is easier?

Apparently members took part in early workshops before the 'soft' release!
I'd be interested in knowing how many members and what their feedback was..
Anyone remember a board game called 'Frustration' . I think someone just invented the online version without realising it

I have no sympathy at all for the CC IT staff. If IT is what they allegedly do for a living and this site is the best they can muster, I wouldn't pay them in washers. There are very many websites & forums out there that are run by people in their back bedroom that work better than this forum

I have just had a go at obtaining some ferry prices for next year. From that experience I have to be honest and say the new system is very poor. I appreciate new systems will have teething problems but I am surprised this went live.
I was just trying to get an idea of the prices for various options for outward to Spain and back from Caen. This included adding site vouchers. It's what I do every year. However this time it was a painful process. Numerous errors, including blank screens and "nothing is available" type responses. In the end I gave up. Which is a shame because had I got a good price I may have been tempted to book there and then.
