    Hi, ID1

Which part of Spain are you thinking of visiting ?

We’ve found the campingred group pretty reliable for good quality sites, but I’m sure many other Club Together people will have other suggestions.

    Happy Travels! 😊

You will struggle to find many places offering pitches as big as 120 sq m especially in the popular areas. The old standard used to be 10 metres square giving 100 m2. but now most are probably a bit less than that. The enclosed pitches you are looking for do exist on some sites such as La Manga and Bonterra Park and no doubt others but Spanish sites do not have the degree of regimentation you find on C&MC sites in the UK. Many sites will meet most of your requirements but not many will meet them all.

weve stayed in some that would meet your requiremnts, but would also add wall to wall sunshine, amazing site staff, continuous facilities cleaning, tours from site, supermarket nearby, real spanish town next door with local festive diary of regular events, fabulous beach, wonderful mountains, walking, cycling all at ACSI discount prices, with no pegs, no arrival times, no queuing.....

you didnt say where you were heading, Spain is a blooming big country.

    a clue would help.

as LR mentions above....Bonterra Park is a regular haunt of purs and we loved KikoPark this spring....

just dont expect too many rules....

Do you want to visit El Rocio ? Then stay at Camping la Aldea. But where and what do you want to see in Spain ? Surely more than a campsite.

We went to Spain with caravan for first time this spring/early summer for 6 weeks touring, with similar aspirations to yours.

We found plenty of excellent sites which ticked many of the boxes, but the two factors which we didn’t really find to any degree were....

    1. Electricity - many sites are 6 amp or 10 amp (not more) though some have charged for rates beyond this level, said by many to be expensive.

    2. Pitch size - whilst I cannot recall exact sizes, I doubt many would be the size you quote.

I wouldn’t let these factors put you off. The warmer weather meant we ate far more cold meals than normal, cooked on gas barbq & certainly didn’t need any heating. So with a little care, 6 amps wasn’t really an issue. (Wife did have to take her straighteners to the toilet blocks which were more than 6 amps).

as for pitch size, so many sites had great landscaped swimming pool areas or adjacent beaches, that we found the lesser spaces of the pitch itself to be fine.

top site we found was Playa Bara, midway between Tarragona and Sitges.

in overall terms, I would say we found Spanish sites of the type you seek better quality than their French or English counterparts. A generalisation I know, but we will be returning next year without a doubt.

re the lower amperage...many manage as they dont need heating etc but if you are going put of season and its a bit chillier, to avoid tripping the bollard (or to keep cost down if metered) many long termers use local bottled repsol/cepsa gas to run the fridge and any heating or hot water needs.

    youll really enjoy it.

Given the recent bad weather in the east of Spain from I understand Valencia to Marbella sites may have been flooded, if so these sites could take some time to get back up to full working conditions. We are currently in France and reviewing the situation. This is the start of one of the busiest times for sites in these areas so pitches could be in short supply.

    Hi

The weather here as been awful here and some of the worst we have seen since we have lived here our neighbours say it is the worst for over 100 years, the worst affected area seems to be south of Alicante around the town of Dolores and guess were we have or motorhome stored which is under three foot of water. The campsite in this area seem to have survived without flooding but some have sustained some damage so if you are coming in the next three weeks phone ahead.

Back to the original post I can only think of two sites in the whole of Spain which have most of the request and they are Camping Resort Almafra in Benidorm which has huge pitches and most of the other things apart from no hedges and the other is near me Costa Blanca Marjal a huge site with large pitches and all the facilities.

    Off to find my wellies.

Phil, thanks for the update. Sorry to hear about your MH, when will you know how its fared.

We are rethinking our route down to the South, might go down west of Madrid now and on to Caceres, Seville etc. We were going to be coming back up that way so just doing it the otherway round.laughing

You haven't said where or when you're going, whether you want quiet sites or the monsters down on the coast so it's very difficult to give a sensible answer.

You have to realise that Spain isn't the UK, (or vice versa for that matter) and things are different, sometimes very different.  But that's part of the delight of foreign travel.

The ACSI websites (campingcard.co.uk and eurocampings.co.uk) have detailed information on a lot of Spanish sites and the reviews will give you an idea of whether they will suit you or not.

First thing is to learn a little of the language so you're not like some Brits we see who think shouting in English makes them more intelligible or simply refuse to attempt any Spanish.

If you set off determined to find sites that meet your list of 7 essentials you're going to be disappointed.  If you go with an open mind, you'll find the Spanish very helpful and friendly and will try to accommodate you as best they can.  At least, that's been our experience.

I was reading on a local group webpage this morning about a Brit couple from Almoradi who had their house washed away. Footage of cars being washed down the street in Santa Pola. Seems I sold up at the right time.

The Club’s “Venture Abroad “ brochure will give you more ideas. The new edition should be launched soon but there’s lots on line already.

I could list lots of sites that we’ve visited but it really depends on which part of Spain you’re thinking of heading to. Don’t want to recommend somewhere in the Spanish Pyrenees if you fancy sunning yourself in Andalusia!

The village of Dolores is still under water and the Guardia are not letting anyone that doesn't live there in, motorhome is still under water.

agreed, Spain is a pretty big place and, as my weather page of Benicassim and Phil's reports from a 100km further south show, things can change in different areas and many, like TG is suggesting, some will alter routes to follow the better weather.

we certanly did that on a route similar to hers this spring....prefering to kick on south as the Valencia region was a bit too chilly...on the way back it was wonderful.

we dont know how long the OP will be touring or how far south (or wherever) he will be going, or if the priorities are mountains or beaches, vinyards or culture....or (as is easily possibly in many parts of Spain.....) all of these (in a day)......but more importantly what wine do you likewink

having contributed to the thread it would have been (mildly) interesting to hear which location (and sites) appealed, however.....

as AD says, an abrubt end to the (one way) conversation.

at least he got someting out of it.....we just dont know whatundecided

Agreed! I've lost count of the number of times I've suggested sites in response to enquiries on here and the OP hasn't subsequently come back.

I simply shrug my virtual shoulders and move on, certainly not react in the sort of petulant way seen this morning.  frown
