Serviced pitches on Club Sites

Thanks David, well explained.
Caravanners, especially the OP can rest easy in the knowledge that it will not be OUR motorhome on a SP though, Hardstanding, yes, unless very hard grass, Awning Pitch, yes, though only for our wind- out. The extra £3.90 a night for a closer tap is just too much........for us.

not many club sites have a choice EHU and non-EHU on the same site, in the way that service pitches are managed.
so, choice of EHU is not network wide.
perhaps a proliferation of (the obviously loved, and paid for) SP will mean gradually less choice.
while they are used by many, there are equally those who don't want them site wide, nor HS thanks

Personally I wouldn't call the decision of the CC not to allow HS pitches to be booked a rule. It could more correctly be called a booking policy decision. It's just not made available at the time of booking. Once on site you are generally free to choose HS or grass where available.
Rules to me mean things like site speed limits, dog lead lengths, pitching to the peg etc. These, unless you read through the fine print, a newcomer might not be aware of until they arrive on site and are informed.

It's a members club.
As far as I'm concerned that means everyone is catered for. If you look at the history, the founders of the clubs ethos was just that.
I think we members dont SHOUT enough, if more service pitches are wanted, then as a club, build them, if it's going to cause booking issues, solve them, but dont deny because thats the easy route.

But the questions, surely, are "are more serviced pitches wanted?" and "would more folk who don't use club sites at the moment do so if there were more?"
A small minority of the tiny minority of members who post on here want then (and that's absolutely fair enough, but it seems they can nearly always book them if they get themselves organised), just as a small minority of the tiny minority who post on here appear to want arrival times changed, toilet cleaning times changed, dogs charged for, pitching arrangements changed etc etc. the list goes on.
From what I can tell, where there are serviced pitches on sites the balance is about right - unless some very detailed investigation illustrates the need for substantially more there is little point in having more at the expense of standard pitches.
Where the club probably could do more is to install some on sites which don't have any at the moment. I have no idea how many sites that applies to but I'm sure someone must have the numbers a their fingertips.

But M the OP is giving us there observations and the ACTUAL effect upon themselves.
I'm so fed up with the stick in the mud attitude, not just here but it seems everywhere. What's wrong with action?
Posts about MH, do they, should they, let me tell you, dont turn a tap on fully, spit on a rag to clean a dish, didnt do my da any harm, anything but address the issue.
Double the service pitches, where is the harm?
As far as I can see, the clubs management has a history of wasting the members money on stuff not wanted, or what works, at least a tap and drain will be a physical thing, a working one at that.
Build them, manage them, everyone's happy.
Its tap for gods sake!

Quite so Steve. It is a decision made by the Club which I assume can equally easily be changed by the Club. It's not something you can obey or disobey as is the case with a rule! We have never had any direct reasoning from the Club why if you can book a serviced pitch why you can't book a standard hardstanding pitch. OK we have lots of rumours and opinions why but nothing direct from the Club. I am of the view that the current Club position will eventually become untenable. I would have thought the likes of MM who appear to love their grass pitches would appreciate the opportunity to be able to book his beloved grass pitches which the majority seem not to want? I suspect his concern is that the booking of hardstandings would become popular that it would increase pressure on the Club to convert more grass pitches to hardstandings?

What is wrong with action is when the actions are not wanted by the majority. It suits me personally that there are not too many as it limits my choice of pitch. I would not be upset if 15% were serviced. In my opinion it might make sense to put some serviced pitches on sites that don't have them. I am surprised that Chester FairOaks doesn't have any.

"Build them, manage them, everyone's happy."
Not sure about 'everyone'. That’s just your supposition from reading a few of the posts here
There's no need to get yourself so worked up about it really.

Not worked up, bored.
Where there is a will, there is a way.
Turn all pitches into service pitches, no charge to members, what an achievement.
Or
Lock em up, charged a daily unlock fee.
It's so simple to achieve, but yet no.
"Physical ailment dear member"?
"Here you go, have the key foc"
It's ok if you want to charge your electric car foc it would appear, but not get water, odd priorities for a caravan club

"Not worked up, bored."
Yes, I worked that one out hours ago😂😂😂
Go do some more housework or something. Boredom is just a state of mind.

Hey, calm down and read my post again, W. Where did I say there should be no action? Read my last sentence. Read the bit where I said "unless some very detailed investigation illustrates the need for substantially more there is little point in having more at the expense of standard pitches." If I'm fed up with anything at all it's folk assuming that because they want something everyone else must as well. Now, deep breaths - and get on with cleaning that downstairs bog before Michelle gets home to inspect your work!

I keep popping on. Started washing caravan at 12.30. Do a bit, rest hip and spine a bit!
Up and down steps and bending down doesn't agree/ Finish coffee and then car! No pasta here. Tea (northerner see) will be backed Salmon, asparagus and new tats. Simple and not much prep.

...but it would raise the price of a pitch by £27.30 a week....that's the issue for the many who already feel club sites are climbing far too quickly.
fine for those that want it and are prepared to pay £30-35 a night for a pitch.
we aren't and so we'd just use sites even less if there were no SP choice and the associated rise became mandatory..
i can afford to pay club sites, I just don't think they represent good value so I don't......very often.
im a member for other aspects....

My CC sites have averaged under £25 thus far and I ma happy with that. I can afford to pay club sites fees as they are rarely as dear as the private sites that I use and I think they represent good value for me when compared with private sites that I might use.

the problem with grass pitches is that they cannot be used all year, or rather even all season. I recall a previous discussion I did that calculated a grass pitch could lose more income in a season than it would cost to install it.
and of course this happens, and this was August - nice tyre tracks

The thing about site prices, let's not forget the No Deposit booking will have a cost, that being worked into the prices.
For example if folk cancel due to the weather, then that could force an increase on the following years site fees.
People forget the uniqueness of the clubs booking protocols. If I rejoin next year it will be for this reason only.

Not sure what that cost might be. It also has a benefit :- People forget the uniqueness of the clubs booking protocols. If I rejoin next year it will be for this reason only.

I can only agree. Pensioners on limited, and pretty much fixed, incomes, especially when they, as we do, have only one pension, do need to watch their spending.
Like BB, we find Club prices have escalated so much that they no longer offer us good value, even in low season. Site fees have risen much faster than our pension has, so we are rarely using Club sites these days.
We have moved to CCC sites and CLs, and having excellent facilities in our van, this suits us well and means we can spend more time away for less money.
We are happy to use alternative sites to enable us to spend more time away, which is what is important to us.
It is quite surprising how many CLs have serviced pitches at a modest cost.
3 -
I also agree with BB & K
I can see us using CC sites less and less going forward.. It's easier to use CC as the booking system is convenient, but not at any price. We have, and will in future, look for cheaper alternatives when we sometimes find their prices beyond what we are prepared to pay.
In just the same way, we mostly e.g. avoid Sainsbury's etc and shop at Aldi and take our VW Polo to a smaller independent garage rather than a VW main dealer, we rarely eat out..... etc etc etc.....On a limited income not far removed from minimum wage, we just have to seek cheaper alternatives for more or less everything to maintain our chosen lifestyle.
