In these dangerous times sterile is very good ,rather than multiple use as in holiday parkscool

dont know how you work that out, if there are statics which there are, which have full facilities combined with tourers etc then you have less people using the facilities block, you should try getting away more, i mean away not CAMC sites laughing

I agree; many sites abroad have this facility as the norm.
I can never seem to get a serviced pitch which would be sooo helpful given that I usually have other things to tend to.
Don’t flail me alive, it’s just my opinion.

As I have said in a previous post...I personally think that all pitches on club owned sites should be serviced with a flat fee across those sites of £40 pn for unit plus 2. An additional per night charge for extra adult, children a nominal 50p (they are after all the clubs prospective members)...£3.50 for the first dog with a £2 charge for every subsequent dog

I suggest that you use sites that give you what you want in the UK. What's wrong? Having trouble finding them?

A friend has a static at one on the east coast. Not all the normally offered facilities are available.

Only the norm on ‘factory campsites’ that many avoid in favour of smaller, more characterful sites. Personally I dislike looking out at a sea of ugly concrete/gravel covered in white boxes.

In complete contrast to full service pitches, I think there’s a strong case for the Club to adopt a completely different policy and make EHU a chargeable option rather than the default. Increasingly, motorhomers in particular are getting used to touring off-grid. It’s the essence of what camping is about, not some bloated double axle box on wheels connected umbilically to life support. It demonstrates a real concern for our environment and is more sustainable. If folks want to sit in their awning heating up the atmosphere while freely consuming copious amounts of water, don’t make it easy to do so and then let them pay handsomely for the impact they have on the earth's resources and pollution.

With solar and gas it’s relatively easy, with a bit of effort, to live without electricity.

That’s your opinion, SB, and you’re entitled to it, but I think you’ll find the majority of club site users don’t go for the hair shirt option.

What makes you think it is a hair shirt option TW? I certainly don't have a problem with staying off grid on the odd occasions. Life can be just as comfortable off grid as on. I have never yet paid for a service pitch except where all the pitches on site were so equiped.  I don't have a problem with there being some as long as there is still a choice of other pitches.

It always amuses me when I read posts suggesting that choosing not to use EHU makes one a saviour of the earth and life on it - especially from folk having consumed vast amounts of fossil fuels in driving their units (usually, but not always MHs) around the country and half way across the continent. A tiny, tiny saving it might be, but Bear Ghrylls it definitely ain't!  smile

" Increasingly, motorhomers in particular are getting used to touring off-grid. It’s the essence of what camping is about,"

What, driving  around in a multi thousand pounds vehicle with all mod cons is the "essence" of camping? Really? surprised

The way SB describes it, it sure ain’t the easy or cheap option. It involves effort he says. That’s what I'm referring to.

Give me easy and comfortable, even luxurious, any day. 👍🏻

You need to expand your mind and understand the difference between living off-grid and how much you pay for a motorhome. Tents aren’t made of goat skins anymore, but just because they’re now made of modern materials doesn’t make it any less camping. The essence of camping is about simple living outdoors, whether you pay £10 or £100 for that experience matters not a jot. It’s nothing to do with Bear Grylls either - that’s about survival training, not camping.

I’m disappointed you find the subject of climate change and the implications for millions of people amusing. Hopefully you’re not bailing flood water out of your home tonight like quite a few folks in Cornwall.

I don't understand this non EHU = hair shirt either. Last month we were on an all grass site without hookup. I didn't notice any difference in lifestyle apart from not tripping over the cable. Is the Club's "Steamer Quay", a "honeypot" I believe , an austere location?

Excellent example, lovely site, popular with caravans and motorhomes alike and not a single EHU bollard in sight (or serviced pitch). My kind of place.

But you yourself have posted you have used sites this year? Apologies if I've got that wrong?

If you truly believe in that then what have you personally done to help with climate change Bill? Have you given up your motor home and gone back to a tent and a bike, or perhaps if that is not an option now have you just perhaps stayed at home? or give up your high mpg motor home and have holidays in a much smaller car or even an electric car?

I am pretty certain there isn't a link between SP (this thread) and climate change is there?

Why do you never get anything?

Let's try and bring a little perspective to this exchange,  Bill. Have you not said on another thread that you're hoping to head off to the continent in the MH later this year? Even if you don’t use EHU for a single night (I doubt it, but if you say so,  I'll take your word for it), how much will that offset the carbon emissions from (a) getting there and then (b) travelling around over there? undecided
