I’m sure this thread could easily and willingly be made a sticky but it would be far more use if someone could list the sites in a logical order on a spread sheet in much the same way as in the LPG Filling Station thread. (Sorry, it’s beyond my ability.) Otherwise, it becomes a random and frustrating search. I know because I tried looking for a site in a certain area and gave up.🙁

Update on the small pub site in my OP. Very nice, neat and tidy, you can pitch on either HS or grass, it’s behind the pub in a sheltered area. The pub is lovely, great food and good beers. It’s not a perfectly quiet site, but the odd passing car you hardly notice. Took a quick look in the shower and loo, clean and tidy, situated in the pub complex but open 24 hours. On enquiry prices are around £19-22 per night. It’s full at the moment, of Dutch visitors all here for the Gloucestershire Steam and Classic Event which is taking place around half a mile away.

Definitely somewhere we would use with MH, lots to do in area, and a brilliant dog walk to the source of the River Thames!

I can hear the odd train rumbling past from our bedroom, but not very often, nothing like the frequency of Berwick Seaview. Trains don’t bother me....

It had crossed my mind to create a separate (locked thread) with just the links to the campsites. However I am not sure how the Club would react to such a thread as its advertising the opposition! If Rowena gave the OK I would be happy to start it and maintain it.

Old fashioned way is often best. All it needs is a small address book. Then find a pen (remember them?) and list each site under its county. Simples. So even if you don't have wifi connection you should have a record. Plus other recommended sites pop up all over the place on CT. Remember the Canal thread? Cls? General Chat? Other Forums?

So if you can't make a spreadsheet you can probably still write.

Memo to self. Get organised and start making that list.😀

People could continue to add links to this thread and they would just be copied from here to the locked thread. The problem with having an open thread is that it can go off topic and make it difficult to follow.

Indeed. I am thinking of restarting my “ Little Black Book of Sites”. I might see if I can have a go at making a list via the spreadsheet app for iPad, but given most of my previous bungled efforts, it is a distinct possibility it might not happen.

Here’s another addition that some might like, we stayed here years ago, back when it was a CL. It left the network, but looks as though the next generation is now involved and it looks to have undergone some updates. We loved the tranquility and location, it is a place we often remember, and it is very special. A proper campsite, a world away from most Club Sites of today, so you’ll either love it, or not like it!😁

Mutts £2 a day and you can use the fire pits provided but you've to buy the wood from them? 🤔

It is what it is MM, the location is simply stunning, the basic price for two adults isn’t huge, and using their fuel possibly means old painted rubbish isn’t burnt and sending up smoke signals across to Wales! It won’t appeal in any way to Club Site lovers, it’s not that kind of place. I would also add that it’s truly magical if nearly empty, but very different (and not for us) on a BH.

Think Guardian readers experiencing “the dream”😂

Not all Guardian readers dream of such places! Not my cup of tea. The idea of fire pits would put me off straight away! Having been smoked like a kipper on a few sites abroad I am just glad the Club don't allow such things.

Just a quick note about my earlier suggestion of Hawthorne Cottage near Coleford. It really is a very nice site, AO, backing right on to the forest. Easy access from either Coleford or Lydney, through the village of Sling to Clements End. Final drive in needs a tiny bit of care but no great problem.  Just 10 pitches, a bit slopey at the top end and you'd definitely need a mover to get on to some of them.  Basic toilet/shower block, but perfectly clean and useable  (20p for a long hot shower!), due, we were told to be replaced for next year. TV reception is a bit dodgy, but you can hire a free sat box for £1 a day if that's important to you.  Loads of walks within a very short drive away.  Very friendly owner and at just £14 a night for pitch + 2, great value. smile

And while we were in the area I recalled this lovely little site which we stayed at a couple of years back  near the village of Skenfrith, ideal for the Wye Valley area.

Could a Mod please make this a sticky, as there will be CT members who would no doubt wish to visit some of these sites and it's hard enough at the moment to find this post, and will only get harder as more post are added.

I’ll report your post Nellie, hopefully it will be made a sticky, but in meantime just give it a bump every now and then. It is useful, and hardly advertising as those of us that tour UK like to mix our sites up, so there will be CLs and Club Sites in the mix as well.😁

Edit: have reported and asked for it to be made sticky, possibly asking folks to just post links rather than too much debate on merits or otherwise on what is posted. 🤞😁

I've made it sticky and would reiterate the request to keep to links and not use it for discussion and debate so it doesn't get clogged up.

    Thanks all.

Thanks, Jill. Presumably a short review after visiting, such as mine about Hawthorne Cottage would be OK though? smile

Just a suggestion Jill, but if it’s possible, could you add something to the opening post in bold stating that it’s primarily for posting links and a bit of a review, but not for commenting on the merits or otherwise of folk’s choices? This might help keep it on track?

This CL has just been listed in the latest list of Closed CLs published by Maddie earlier this month. They must now be purely a Commercial site.

I had a round robin email from Cuckoo's Corner the other day explaining they had been 'struck off' the CL list for having too many pitches but were continuing as a commercial site. It was a bit confusing as he said they had always had that number of pitches and couldn’t understand why the club was now withdrawing the CL status. Make of it what you will. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I can back this up, Settermum. Good off road dog walk along the the old railway track near to the site, and numerous other footpaths close by too. It has 4 grass & 6 H/S pitches each with it's own water tap, a single toilet and is easily accessed off the A697, just north of Powburn. Good value at £16 pn, at the moment.
