    If anyone is down near Hay on Wye there is a site that we were recommended but haven't got to yet. A reliable source as well.

    It is on a static cite but has Serviced Pitches, about 10 of the 20 and appears to be a well managed site. Prices start from £18pn in low season.

    That takes me back! We stayed there years ago in our tent camping days. Lovely site near the Golden Valley. There used to be a restaurant right next door too. I think the only downside for us was that there was no walking direct from the site. Nice to be reminded of it though! smile

    Another Yorkshire gem. We first stayed here some 35 years ago. Decided to have a couple of nights break, our first choice a small CL and private site was fully booked, so I took a look at this to see how prices compared. Just what we fancy, two nights with hook up comes in at £44, that’s with showers as well. The same two nights at the Bridlington Club Site would have cost us over £71.00. Interestingly, Thorpe Hall does no hook up pitches at £17 per night at this time of year. Will report back after our stay😁

    I mentioned a small Exmoor camp site on another thread, it's a farm site in a beautiful setting with lots of walking on the doorstep (Winsford Hill and the Punchbowl is a famous walk with good Exmoor views.) There's the thatched Royal Oak Inn down in the village and up on the top is the famous Cara(c)tacus Stone. We stayed at this site a few years ago and it's still a popular spot for people who like Exmoor. smile

    I like the look of that site Brue. We're hoping to get a tour together for the South West sometime in the next couple of years and I'll keep that site in mind.

    I have emailed The Croft at Warden Law to find out if it is closed, still no response. I really do hope not, the owners had invested a lot of money in the place.

    It looks like the pitches might well be sloping. Would ordinary ‘wedges’ suffice?

    We are happily pitched up on the site I mentioned above, Thorpe Hall. Thirty six years since we last visited, very very nice and a wonderful welcome is our first impression. It’s fairly busy, but peaceful, lots of folks sat outside having a nice time in sunshine. Nice little reception with a very well stocked shop. We are on a close mown grass pitch, solid as a rock under wheel and absolutely level. 

    Burton Agnes for us tomorrow, only three mile away, a short hop.😁

    We stayed at Halse Farm way back in June 2002. I had to look that up because I don't keep detailed records that far back. But I remember, in the days before we had a TV in the van, listening to the radio commentary of England v Argentina in the world cup. (England won 1 - 0 thanks to a David Beckham penalty.) Now is that sad or what?!! wink

    Yep, very sad M. 

    We were in South of France at the time and because of time delay the matches were sometimes shown in the morning on French tv. We had a tv at that time and we used to check the weather forecast before setting out only to find ourselves watching a highlights programme showing the game. The French tv was hilarious and so non PC. All and I mean all, of the "guest viewers" on the set in the first 2 rows were former Miss Worlds, or should have been, with various scarves draped around them, all showing rather too much decolletage. I'm sure they were all avid fans of Football!smile  We found it hilarious.

    The Croft IS permanently closed following the owners retirement. Very disappointed and surprised given the investment in a new wheelchair friendly shower and other upgrades 2 years ago. There is a good site not too far away at Finchale Abbey, quiet, immediately next to the Abbey, adult only, albeit not small.

    We stayed at Finchdale Abbey site a few years ago. We liked it. I remember it being a bit slopie but can't remember if we used blocks. Peacock(s) lived on site too.

    Won't let me edit 😲. Just checked out photo no levelling blocks used. Trying to post photo I maybe some time 😉 seems to be hard standings in the grass. Hopefully you'll see what I mean - eventually!

    May I add the following superb site weve used for several visits to the Lakes

    It is easily reached off the A66 and is nestled just below Blencathra for a good days walking. 

    The village is 10 mins walk away with 3 great pubs serving meals (the burgers at the 'Sally' are really great.

    Unfortunately the railway path that rund from near the site through to Keswick was very badly damaged by the floods of 2015, however work is underway to reopen it soon

    We've often thought about stopping there when visiting the Northern Lakes so it's good to get a positive view. Thanks Trini.

    The track was still closed last week, Trini, when we were up there. There was also road closures though Threlkeld so the bus only stops at the east end of the village, and doesn't drive through. There didn't appear to be any notices on the other bus stops in the village warning potential passengers of that.

    I can highly recommend Low Hedgeley Farm site in the heart of Northumberland. It was a Club CL in the past and has increased the number of pitches since going it alone. The site is immaculate and pristine. In a stunning location  with brilliant hosts. 10 out of 10 easily.

    Another one from me, Tretham Mill on the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall. Superbly landscaped, small quiet family site, excellent value at £26.50/night peak season for large hardstanding pitch with 2 adults and dog. Excellent dog walking area too. However is access not for those of a nervous disposition!

    Just caught up with this Freddy. Glad you enjoyed it, we usually like to do a Winter visit, as there’s not as many sites open. The heated facilities are nice, and it’s usually very quiet. We think it’s good value as well, especially in Winter. It was the first site we used when we got our MH.

    I am filing all these lovely options away, good to have a choice for different areas.😁

    MM, compared with what? Compared with the last time we were on a club pitch at £30/night for grass non awning it seems good value. Especially for 200sq.m awning pitch with hardstanding area for the ‘van, hedgerows between pitches, electric and TV point, well stocked shop, huge dog walking area and a David Bellamy conservation award. Oh and they pitch the van for you too which after a 400 mile 9 hour drive was most welcome!

    thanks for all the contributions. Some nice looking sites. As was said earlier, it's good to mix it up and experience different types of sites. CAMC sites are not the be all and end all.
