That's not a very good one, too far away from source
Try Google search
Model standards 2008 caravan sites
I cant link it, my phone wont let me. You should find a large pdf with diagrams about 32 pages, it covers statics and tourers. it looks familiar to one of the many documentaries I used to have.
Did say I read alot.
The model standard is used by everyone, and its mentioned in legislation.

Well yes agreed.
As I say look for touring model standards, that's the source.

I thought it was very good and up to date TW, thanks.
It is, therefore, their (the club's) responsibility to liaise with local fire departments, in order to establish a clear policy which can then be applied to all camp site planning consents and licences issued by that local authority.
What this, effectively, means is that, contrary to some opinions, there is no central legislation that specifically identifies the approved ‘safe’ distances between camping units. These parameters are decided on a local level. However, that does not mean there aren’t guidelines out there to guide those local authorities. Just like the 85% towing rule, these are not fixed in law, but many local councils have adopted them as the basis for their own planning criteria. These guidelines are as follows:
The distance between two aluminium caravans (or units of a similar fire retardant material) should be no less then 5 metres.
Where the units are of plywood panelling, this is increased to 6 metres.
If units are of mixed construction, then, again, the distance is recommended as 6 metres. The club has, so well done club

sorry HD (bit touchy there?) but you didn't make that clear, you merely said 6m in every direction, as it is currently is 6m in every direction I just though you meant sideways. A lot of folk think it does not apply rearwards.
So you are suggesting 6m from any part of your outfit including cars and awning? It is certainly an interesting idea, it might/would put fees up on all sites due to lost income and I wonder why the fire services think 3m is enough?

Yes ,make every pitch 6 meters apart in every direction ,that way there would be no need for the holy grail (peg), and you could park anywhere on the pitch and still be 6 meters from the next unit ,yes it would be a loss of a few pitches but greater space for everyone , isn't space what everyone wants ??
It works on a site we use in the New Forrest (setthorns) , no pegs ,but pitches all 6 meters apart and everyone happy and spaced out

Because they can get a fire pump through a 3m space.

not at the expense of higher fees and perhaps leading to less sites I would say.
Again no one is forces to endure the way club sites are laid out and if they object like you did, they can go to other sites, rather than change club sites to suit them.

very logical.

Not adjacent..but on the same site...a few years ago...and something I hope never to witness again.
A couple who had recently purchased a second hand motorhome brought it to site for a 'try out'..The alarm was raised around 10-30pm when the couple smelt smoke coming from underneath...a fire quickly took hold and despite what must have been 20 fire buckets thrown at it......it was reduced to a shell within half an hour just as the fire brigade arrived.
Unfortunately there was not enough time to remove the caravans, with awnings, either side plus one behind out of danger. In all 5 caravans suffered irreparable damage through the intense heat.
The cause, I later discovered on a return visit, was a fault on the 12v wiring...

Not every pitch .... I've been exactly on the peg at a CC site and the caravan on the otherside of the hedge behind was likewise .... the two caravans were no where near 6 meters apart. A trainee warden even commented as she walked passed with her 'boss' ... he didn't have anything to say to her.

sorry apologies, that post was meant for another thread

Is that not because the configuration is that 'back to back' pitches are offset so that the 3M is diagonally between the corners of the outfits?

I agree with MM’s early post, Everest and molehill come to mind. Nothing happened, the world didn't collapse, sounds to me the warden was in a no win situation. And, sur le continent where caravans can often be so close you can shake hands through the windows with your neighbour no one gets their smalls in a knot. I simply can't get worked up about this, get over it. And yes i am well aware of fire risks which to be honest if a gas bottle goes up in flames you will need 60m clearance, not 6m.

Yes sorry, object was the wrong word, perhaps you were happier, or sounded happier, at the new forrest site.

I use other organisations sites as well as club sites ,they all do things differently, some better, some worse , I was just using the New Forrest site as example of where no pegs are needed and the fire safety spacing is maintained, but that may not work for all sites ,just remember there are other sites that Clubs sites

Well I am stunned. A warden made a value decision in an exceptional circumstance and things like this happen. Once its happened once it will run through the network like wildfire (unfortunate simile).
Pegs and the 6m rule are the holy grail of conformity and to be abused in this manner is just not acceptable.
The warden was probably brought up in a school without caning and now society is breaking down.
