Pop up pitches less than 6m away from caravans

When on the Hebrides South Uist at Lochboisdale recently I was shown the results of ' too close parking' 4 motorhomes all burnt completely out, luckily no-one was injured but absolutely nothing left, just the skeletons behind a protective fence.....I will NEVER question the 6m rule again. And would not park on an Aire with someone alongside me.....i would rather move..even in the middle of the night if necessary. I would post pictures if i can work out how ? Safety IS important. It happens to SOMEBODY and it could be you.
So much content removed makes the thread hard to follow.

Wild camping, no doubt.
You may need to resize the pics through an app, Ray, depending on your device. I’ll happily attempt to post them for you if you’ve hit a brick wall. You can mail them to me if you want - address in my profile.

That looks less than 6 meter spacing.

not knocking what you say, and it is right, however, if you have ever pitched up in places like Spain you will see that they have an almost zero seperation, last year my hitch was only a hairs breadth from the caravan on the next pitch, and i dread to think what would happend if one of those cooking shelters that are common on sites overthere went up in flames.
Frightening when you look at pictures posted by JillwithaJay. And it is not only caravans, was visiting Roses in Spain early in the year and passed what looked like a MH park where it looked as though there was only just sufficient space to open doors. I always try to leave the car in a position that I like to think we could jump in and drive off, might be wishful thinking.

These are rayjsj's pics following resizing.

Wildcamping at the Ferryport...although why ? as there are beautiful spots all over the Islands and plenty of space. Also now, lots of very reasonable private sites with really good facilites in lovely places too. No need to 'huddle together' or rough it.

There are some beautiful spots for wildcamping, like the official spots on Harris, but what joy is there to be had when you can barely see the view due to your neighbour's close proximity? On South Uist you’d be hard pushed to better the Kilbride campsite in my opinion.

Ray, agreed that some popular Aires are car parks and the vans are often close together...but there are 8000+ Aires in France alone and they aren't all like that...
just three quick examples....if it's space you want....

Yes
In cases where the club is helping someone who's pitch was flooded, I would just make friends with my new, if slightly invasive, neighbours.
We were moved due to flooding this summer, and were very grateful to the site for sorting out a matter that would otherwise have meant an early return home, and grateful to other site users for not seeming to mind.3 -
well there are loads in Spain, yes i know, there are loads where you can get 2 units on a pitch, but correct me if I am wrong, did you not stay at camping Bolnuevo Mazarron, I have, and although I love the place H&S is something they dream about, have been there when the guys put out the nets to cover the pitches, wow!!!, was scared the guy would fall of the gantry and fall through roof of caravan, and you are lucky if you get 6 inches between units. Camping Eden is another depending on how you put your unit on the pitch, Las Palmeras Tarrogona, although some pitches are very large, but again it depends how you pitch as to how close you are and the Spanish in particular do their own thing, and these 3 are among some of the most popular.

My idea of Hell, no thanks,
For the Op, I still think the car park (with a EHU) would have been better than 'shoe Horning' between existing pitches, and damaging the grass too. Its where I would have preferred to be, had my pitch been flooded. Our safety is important to me. Some rules make perfect sense.

We here have no information on how many caravans had already been sited in the car park/LNA.
Despite being on top of a (crumbling) cliff, this site does flood easily. We just put on wellington boots and got on with it, but water was at one time nearly up to the top of the sidewall on the caravan tyres.

I think the it the majority of sites that seem cramped not the few that can be found if looking, the same In all countries ,it was V very reassuring that both the Dutch and German that were on Cirencester last week were very happy to come to the UK as they could normaaly on both main clubs sites they would have plenty of space on the pitches ,which they both said is not often in other countries

Well that's a pity David because you won't know how much Cirencester Park has improved over the past few years. We don't tend to stay there at peak times and only rarely have had to use one of the older narrow pitches. And the grass pitches at the top of the site are a delight.
BTW, it looks to me as though you can't park your car by the side of your outfit in your new avatar or did you just choose to leave it where it is?

when were you last there David?
