Crowded out
We are currently on a cl in Dorset, 5 van rule. Ha Ha. Currently 8 vans and by tomorrow could be twelve. Apparantly a rotary club meet. How wrong is this ,everybody is so close, we go home tomorrow yippee.

What did the owners say when you confronted them about it?

This is completely wrong and the thing which brings the CL system into disrepute and is against the exemption rules. So, name and shame!
Write a review with the same title as this so that others like us can avoid the site and definitely contact the club CL dept.

Have you reported the site to the CC's HO CL Section Management team?

Would you rather the owner had turned you away when you arrived and sent you off to find somewhere else?

The owner should not have taken the booking if he/she knew that there were going to be more than 5 vans on site. OK in the odd case someone might be forced to stay over due to unforeseen circumstances, but that obviously hasn't happened in this case.

I think you’ll find a separate exemption certificate is required for the tents, DD, and a 5 van exemption is just that. 5vans for members only. Don’t take my word for it though but check with CL Maddie as she's the expert here.

A CL we used earlier this year, one we have used before without a problem, had 6 or 7 outfits for all of the 3 nights we were there.
Not crowded as it is quite a large area, with more than 5 hook ups, but not as per the rules.
We had booked well ahead, not too many units when we arrived, but the others arrived later. No idea whether they had booked, or just turned up and were allowed to stay.
Owners were not around much to approach, tricky situation.

Here is the Club’s guidance on terms and conditions for setting up a CL. It clearly states five outfits only, and no tents.

If I am understanding the OPs posts, (not just the first post) it would appear that the OP has experienced a similar issue on the same CL previously?
If it's a known problem at this CL, and clearly upsetting you, why go back again?
Edit, you found it as well Vulcan 😁

I am just wondering if the CL has a separate rally field. Many do, and this appears permissible, but without knowing the CL we will not know.

Hi All,
Twocals - I am sorry you have experienced a CL site which has over booked, please could I ask you to email us at clresponse@camc.com with details of this so we can investigate this further. We do not share any member details with the CL owner so this will be anonymous.
We are able to certificate sites under the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960 for our members use. The Caravan and Motorhome Club allow land owners to have a maximum of 5 pitches for Caravan and Motorhomes and we do not allow the use of tents (except pup tents). This is made very clear to CL owners when applying for a CL site and throughout their time as a CL Site. CL sites are for touring purposes only and not used for work purposes (EG Worker vans)
Any breaches of this rule are extremely serious, not just for breaking the Club rule but also for health and safety risks such as fire hazards. We are a small team looking after the CL network and do rely on members informing us of any breaches so we can address these with the CL Owner.
Some CL sites do have commercial licences as well, or have a rally field, but these need to be entirely separate from the CL site and not share facilities such as CCEP.
Thanks
Maddie
