EU health insurance

Has anyone solved the problem of finding health insurance for log term stays in the EU for after we leave the EU.

I have tried but they all want to sell travel insurance and that’s not suitable.

How long do you class as "Long Term"?

All the gap year youngsters take it out for anything up to 12 months, so it's called single trip  Backpacker Insurance. Ask for that on the comparison sites such as Moneysupermarket.com or Go Cmpare etc. and choose from there depending  on your destination, age and health record.

We have health/holiday insurance through our bank, it comes free for 31 days with the bank account we have. The policy can be extended at a cost we have 85 days on our current one.

that will restrict you to 90 days' travel in any 180 in the Schengen countries.

Not sure but I think I read somewhere that we will be able to get, at a cost,  a 'visa' for longer stays.

If the OP is living out there (Spain perhaps) and if he has residency status, and if he simply wants medical cover and nothing else, then an internet  search for "Expat Medical Insurance in Spain" will shed some light. But there was the word If three times in that first sentence.

I guess we will all have to have a little patience to see what unfolds.

We are heading out to France mid Sept, then down to Spain. Will probably look at coming home around mid to late Nov, no return ferry booked yet.

Wow! I did not think I would get so much info so quick, so here is some more info from me.

1 /We spend 6 months in Spain and Portugal, 3 month before Xmas then another 3 months after Xmas leaving the van in storage and flying home for Xmas for a couple of weeks.

Both of us are in our 70+ so the heath insurance is most important.

2/ My bank no longer offers health insurance.

3/ residency status is not applicable.

4/ I don’t think we fit into the "Ex Pat" category".

You have given some things for me to check out so thanks for that.

The kind of thing we need is health insurance with repatriation if needed, one of us has high blood pressure which pushes up the price a bit even though its we managed.

Many thanks for your response and I will get back to about any success I might have.

    Doug

Have you looked at what either of the Clubs have to offer? Red Pennant is generally a bit more lenient with medical conditions if they are well controlled and the medication dose is stable.

Beat me to it WTG I think the C&CC is probably the best bet I believe its as good as Red Penant but has better  T&C's

Thanks both  for the info about C&CC, I have started to  look at it now, however: no comment from me but you might like to have a look at this post.....

    https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/caravan-club-red-pennant-insurance-rip-off.109191/

Admittedly an 0ld 0one (2015) but every thing needs to be looked at.

One thing I have discovered is that many companies don’t take plus 75's.

side note to WTG, I'm in Hwlffordd .

If you breakdown when abroad neither Club actually sends you their own recovery vehicle so the Club have to work with what they have, which is a range of contractors depending what country you are in. If it costs them more to recover a vehicle over 4250kgs (which makes it a pretty big motorhome) of course they will pass on any extra costs. Red Pennant has changed in the last year or two due to a change of underwriter and it seems that they are not keen on covering people over 80 years of age and are loading premiums so much that it almost makes it uneconomic for all but the really determine who have a bob or two! I have yet to explore the C&CC offering but if we venture abroad again I certainly will.

OK ladies and gents, I have had a quote from red-pennant for 2 x 90 day trips to Europe travel insurance  for myself and my wife and it come to £972.00.

Much as I expected is includes all kind of things that we don’t want and/or are already covered my the MH insurance.

I was hoping the a Motor-home club would have had a bespoke cover for motor-homers but that's not the case.

Are those prices for Red Pennant " motoring and personal" cover?  - which is clearly more than you want you want if your Motorhome already has breakdown/ recovery insurance.

it is easy to get 90 day single trip medical/ personal travel insurance via the usual comparison sites, excluding breakdown cover and limiting or excluding personal possessions too if you wish.

But can you please say what else you want to exclude from that sort of travel policy. I am not sure what you are looking for.

    euroT

Over the phone they took off the breakdown and recovery but every thing was left that you would normally have if you where flying out on a 2 week holiday.

I am certainly finding it easy, and if you go to the top of the posts you will see what I am looking for.
