Gas connection queiry
Hi everyone. I wonder can your advise me?
The gas connection point shown in the piccy (which hopefully I've attached) has no fitting to connect the gas bottle.
How should I proceed? Is it just a matter of getting the appropriate fitting? If so, which do I get?

assuming you have a UK Calor type bottle, you'll need a hose as in the picture...
the fitting at the bottle end is called POL

Are you intending to have one or two gas cylinders? If you want two you can use the connector in the picture below. It fits on top of your regulator. That would allow you to use two of the pigtails illustrated by BB above. It also gives an indication when the gas is getting low. It also has a handy function as a leak detector.

WN, any particular reason why?
Propane works fine all year round and doesn't require any change of hose.....just a change of bottle when empty...
if you had a specific reason for using a butane connection, like the fact that some continental bottles use this fitting, i could possibly see why you would need a butane hose....
but for a uk only user, why complicate issues and use a gas that is going to give problems in cold weather...?
is butane cheaper?...are the bottles lighter?

no worries, as other questions have been raised, it might be useful to let us know if you plan to carry two bottles (to allow switch over when one runs out...) and if your touring is going to be confined to the uk or you are planning to visit Europe....and if these might be longer trips....
the reason for the questions is that gas bottles and hoses vary on the continent, by country, and bottles are not interchangeable, and Calor can't be changed overseas...

Yes, there's room for two bottles so that seems the wisest way to go. I've got two blue bottles, one I think is empty, the other at least partly full.
I've only recently acquired the van, it's to be serviced on 17th July so hopefully all will be sorted gas supply-wise.

Cyffo, if you intend using the 'van all year round you will be better off exchanging the Blue ( i.e. Butane gas ) cylinders for red ( Propane gas ) ones. Butane does not vaporize very well at low temperatures unlike propane.

Thanks for all the replies, all very useful and informative.
I only plan to travel in the UK at least for the foreseeable future, and to carry just one Calor Butane (Blue?) bottle. (Butaine because I already have a 7KG blue gas bottle.)
What connector(s) and hose do I require?Thanks again,

assuming you. av a bulkhead regulator, you'll need a 'butane hose' which terminates in a 21.8mm LH thread which attaches to a uk butane clip adaptor.
however, I wouldn't bother as butane doesn't gas off very well in wintertime and you might end up struggling...far better off with propane
why not swap the butane bottle for a propane one and just connect with the POL hose as mentioned earlier?

We caravaned for years with Butane because as above, I already had the gas & regulators. The only time it didn't gas off was at home when we were going to use the caravan's oven as an extra oven one Christmas during that really long very cold spell we had. We only changed to propane with this caravan as it was easier to change bottles than change the fixed regulator & fittings.

no...the POL fitting is for a propane bottle, from any supplier.
