well i am def not an engineer, but in my caravan i have, cooker, fridge, water heater, fire all capable of running on gas, so i would have thought when i open the valve on the gas tank, gas rushes to all of these various pipes, so in my non engineering mind would this not mean to eliminate all gas in the van i would have to turn the valve off on the tank and then light all these appliances to be sure no gas is left in the pipes in the van, is this feasable ???

To be fair, it wasn’t JVB who made the comment regarding draining the pipes.

and you said sure is.....hands up all those who do this

am i miss understanding something here?, in my none engineering brain i assumed there would be gas in the pipe right up to the appliance even when not in use the moment you open the valve on the gas tank, which, to achieve the desired effect of no gas in the van would entail turning off at tank, igniting each unit until residual gas had been burnt off, which must be relatively little i would have thought.

So maybe there should be an isolating valve next to the petrol/diesel tank then you switch this off and continue to run the engine so that there is no residual fuel in the fuel lines?
The amount of LPG in the gas lines is minuscule. About the he same as the contents of my BBQ gas canister.
