    Thanks for the update FB.  Funny, I thought about this thread only the other day when I realised it was about 12 months since Lizzie had her operation.  Pleased to read the update about Murphy.  Glad he is still enjoying his breaks in the motorhome.

    Hi Guys,

    Bad news I'm afraid, Murph was at the specialist Vets today & he had some x rays and a scan. The outcome of which is that his cancer has "progressed significantly" and there is no more that can be done for him. The Vet says his condition is now "very serious" and he has no more than a few months at best.

    We are numb & dreading whats to come for him. We don't care about ourselves its Murph that is our sole concern. Here is a photo of him in Anglesey a few weeks ago.

    FB, it will be terrible for you but you'll do the right thing for Murphy when the time is right.

    FB, just caught up with this, so very sad for you. We lost two dogs early in their lives to cancer, and it's heartbreaking. It's no consolation, but all you can do is let go knowing your beloved pet has had the best time possible with you, and treasure the time you have left, and the memories you will have.

    You have to be very brave owning a dog, their little lives are but a fraction of ours, usually lived at the gallop, but to lose one before it's allotted time is heartrendingly cruel.

    My friend said yesterday "theres only one thing wrong with dogs & thats they don't live long enough"

    Oooh such sad news. No one can describe how you feel...we are thinking of you and keeping everything crossed. The folks on here are so supporting as we experienced when we lost our beloved Scooby.

    Hi Guy's,

    A update on our Murphy.

    He's still with & is eating, drinking & doing his business on our local field. However he now goes out to do his business & can only go for 10 mins at max then he comes back & sleeps all day. He's on pain relief twice a day & we currently don't think he is in pain, the Vet examined him a month ago and said he pressed quite hard on his stomach tumour before Murph reacted (this means his tumour isn't giving him pain). Murph is 10 next month & we don't know if he will make that but considering that in May 2017 the Vet initially thought he only had 4 weeks left we can only thank God for the extra time we've had with him.

    Make the most of the time you have left with Murphy, fb. We know from our recent loss what a difficult time this is. At some stage one has to make that awful final decision - you'll know when the time comes that it is the right one, and made for Murphy's benefit.

    Hi Guys, Thought I'd give everyone an update on our Murph.

    Well, unbelievably he's still with us. Don't ask how because neither us nor the vet know how. As you know he was given 4 weeks initially in May 2017 then after treatment that was raised to 6 -12 months. We are now well past those dates and we are overjoyed that he is still with us. There has been no noticeable change these past 4/5 months he still goes out for his business, eats, drinks and sleeps fine. We don't think he is in pain but we still give him 4 pain relief tablets a day to make sure. He has gone blind with cataracts but the Vet said it wouldn't be fair given his prognosis to operate. To be honest he does fine with his blindness , we don't move any furniture etc and take him the exact same route each day with his 3 short walks. He guides himself around a lot with smell. We live day to day with him and have been doing so for a good while now.

    Anyway I'm chuffed to report that currently Murph is kicking cancers backside & long may this continue.

    Just thought I'd take a look at this thread once more.  We did have another problem with Lizzie last year.  She suddenly had difficulty in blinking and closing her eyes properly.  The did all sorts of tests and didn't find anything untowards.  It was just one of those things that sometimes happens - apparently it does sometimes happen with dogs.  She's got eye drops, but it seems much better these days.

    She seems happy enough.  At the best of times, she's not what you would call an energetic dog.  Much prefers the sofa!!  In fact, if you throw a ball, she will look at you as much as to say..... 'You threw it - you fetch it!'  laughing

    She’s a lovely little dog DSB, much loved as well. Our Lab is currently having problems with his eyes, along with all his other ailments. We have been referred to a canine ophthalmic vet, tried four different drops so far. Fingers crossed he can get sorted, not nice watching him struggle. We are using lubricant drops throughout the day.☹️

    Thanks TDA.  Lizzie was given lubricant (tear) drops, bit she seems much better now.  We're not using them as often now, but she's almost back to normal.  The consultant at the Willows in Solihull said that this sometimes happens and it can get better with time - it is idiopathic.  They are, indeed a worry sometimes.

    Hope yur dog makes progress and soon recovers, TDA.

    Hi All, Last Wednesday we had to have our beloved Cocker Spaniel Murphy put to sleep, it was the worst day of my life. The past couple of weeks he slowed down a lot and was struggling to stand up and remain on his feet. On the Tuesday night he brought up blood from his mouth and the Vet thought that his stomach tumour may be bleeding. So we took him home and spent the night lay next to him comforting him & giving him all the love we could. On the Wednesday morning the Vet came to our house & Murph knew something wasn't right and we could see he was scared & tried to back off from the Vet but couldn't because he was so ill.

    There is now a massive chasm in our lives and the house is so empty without him, he was such a lovely lad who had a waggy tail for everyone he met and was so gentle with whoever he met whether they had 2 legs or 4.

    So sorry to hear the news about Murphy,  FB. Have been following your posts with interest.

    I don't think it ever gets any easier to lose a beloved friend, no matter how many times one goes through it.

    If it's any consolation to you, when we lost our Harry last year a friend said to us "remember it's better to let them go a day too early than keep them in pain a day too long".

    Fatbelly I am so sorry that  Murphy has gone , and as others, know just how you are feeling ,it wiil get easier but you will alway have the memories of the the companionship he gave

    Ohhhh...we are so dreadfully sorry for you fat belly. Our hearts go out to you. We lost our beloved Scooby to cancer at three so we completely understand how you are feeling.
