Sincere condolences FB, we lost our beloved Millie three months ago, it’s totally heartbreaking. Treasure those memories and good times.

Lizzie has been poorly again this week.  Took her to the vets and it turns out she had pyometra.  She has had her operation today to remove the womb and ovaries and has come through the trauma and is sleeping it all off!

Pyometra is rally dangerous for dogs, but at least it's all done now.  We just keep our fingers crossed for the recovery period.  We discussed the possibility of them keeping her overnight but then wondered if the stress involved of staying on a strange place overnight would actually make recovery more troublesome.  In the end we brought her home, but will go back to the vet first thing in the morning.  Fingers crossed.

She's now sleeping it off..... smile

My late & deeply loved Retriever went thru the same procedure she too was very poorly but she came thru & lived for years after with no after effects. I wish you the same result DSB. Good luck👍🏻😊

Thanks everyone.  Took her back to the vets this morning, as arranged, and he seemed pleased with her progress.  She keeps wanting to jump up - it's a devil to try and stop her.  She seems to be doing fine...

Good to hear she’s doing well, David. I guess it’s a good sign that she wants to jump up.

She's never been a big eater, but she went right off food, but had a good bowl of freshly cooked chicken yesterday after arriving home.  Getting her to take the antibiotic pills is quite a task.  She's got wise to having tablets wrapped in cheese or ham.  She'll eat the cheese or ham and spit out the tablet.  The vet gave us a handful of special treats to try with a hole in for tablets she did exactly the same!  We now bring up the tablets, mix them with lukewarm gravy, fill a syringe plunger and squirt it in the side of her mouth towards the back.  She doesn't like it, but needs must.

A dog’s power of recovery never ceases to amaze me. Good to hear things are going well David. Some vets sell liver pate in tubes, squeeze a dollop of this onto some ham, push tablet into it, wrap it up in ham, makes it far more difficult for them to spit out the tablet. Our Lab goes crazy for pate, so it’s worked well for us.

My apologies for only now coming across this thread. FB, I fully understand your feelings. We lost our beloved ‘Bunty’ (also a ‘cocker’) in February this year. She was 15, so not a bad lifespan, but it was still hard to take. Even at the end, she was still full of beans. We still miss her...always will.

Our ‘Bunty’ loved her food, indeed we had to be careful she didn’t eat too much. But yes, tablets were always a problem, how do they know? Cheese seemed to work quite well though, she loved that. I do hope it works out 👍
