    Hi All,

As an update on our Murphy.

He saw the specialist and it was bad news, he has a primary tumour around 10cm x 10com on his anal gland & secondary tumour on his lymph node which is 2cm x 2cm. The vet was also concerned that the cancer may have spread into his lungs and a chest x ray will be taken tomorrow. It is now end of life care, we are devastated not so much for us but for him. He is young and not had his full life. He is such a gentle & loving Dog and he really wouldn't hurt a fly.

Its really so unfair for him.

    Terrible news, FB.

As you say, so unfair when he's so young.

Try to be brave and spend as much time as possible together. He won't understand what's going on, but he will appreciate your love.

    Hi All,

Thank you so much for your kind wishes and thoughts, it means a lot to us.

On Thursday Murph had surgery to remove a tumour from his anal gland, a tumour from his Lymph node and a tumour from his stomach area. As you can imagine it was major surgery and he only came home to us yesterday. The Vet said all went well with the surgery and she was pleased with his post op recovery.

Since he's come home it's heartbreaking to see him, he doesn't seem to recognise us and is very down. The Vet said no stairs or jumping or running for 2 weeks, so we've drawn up a rota so that he's never alone and one of us is with him at all times. We're both sleeping downstairs with him so he's not alone at night time either.

His long term prognosis isn't good but we're just going to give him the very best we can for as long as we can. The total Vets bill will be around £6,500 of which the insurance will cover £3,000. We're a million miles from rich but we will give him the best treatment we can and we've both said that the money is immaterial compared to him getting better.

    Thanks to all

We just have to keep hoping that Murph improves. Everyday is precious and you will do anything in your power to keep him no matter what. He is a big part of your life. We are thinking of you and keeping everything crossed.

Hi FB.  What a dreadful experience you have been through.  Hope that Murph improves day by day.  It is always so stressful when our pets become ill. Our best wishes and thoughts are with you.

I don't know you FB but as a huge animal lover I am thinking of you and your family. So cruel for such a young dog, try and focus on the good life you have given him so far and will hopefully be able to continue soon.

FB - Murph has had a big operation and he will have no idea why or what is happening to him.

He is bound to behave differently for a while. But you are doing everyhing posible for him and your devotion is admirable.

I sincerely hope for a positive outcome and that you have some more good times together.

    Hi All,

We went to the Vet's today with Murph and she was very pleased with his recovery from the operation. She told us that he can now begin to exercise etc as normal.

She said that his life expectancy is now somewhere between 12 and 18 months. Which is short but before his operation the Vet was talking of weeks not months because the tumours were so aggressive. We now intend to give Murph the best 18 months he can possibly have, starting next week when we have booked a week at Ayr holiday park in St Ives laughing

    Hi All,

A further update about Murph. He is now over his Operation and eating drinking etc is all back to normal. He's having loads and loads of love off the both of us. Last week we took him to Cornwall where he had a great time. The other night I came home from work and looked in the fridge for the lovely bit of salmon I'd saved for myself. I asked Mrs FB where it was and she smiled pointed to Murphy and said "he was hungry"

He started his Chemotherapy on Friday and that went well, he's had no side affects so far. Dogs handle chemo much better than us humans and most Dogs are no more than off colour for a few days.

I've attached a photo of him in the Pub in Cornwall.

    Hi All,

Another update regarding our Murphy. Today he had his final session of chemotherapy (he's had 4 sessions in total) and it went well. He has done well with each session as Dogs cope with Chemotherapy far better than us humans. The Vet says that his cancers will return but we can reasonably expect to have him with us for the next 12 - 18 months.

We've done our absolute best for him and he's looking great and we know he's happy. Since diagnosis we've took him away for 11 holidays in the MH and he's been to France, Cornwall, Anglesey, Ludlow, Shrewsbury & Tewkesbury. We've treasured every single day with him & we've enjoyed our time with him.

We're resigned to what he has to face and now think "it is what it is" and we can't change it anymore than we have, all we can do is the very best for him and have a great time with him. I know some might think he's just a Dog but to us he's very much part of our family.

Thanks to all for your kind wishes over the past few months.

    Regards to all.

    Hi All,

Thought it time to give everyone an update on Murphy. He's still with us and doing okay, as you may remember the Vet gave him between 12 -18 months in April 2017. So we're now at the 12 month point. He's still doing okay goes for his walks twice a day and is eating and drinking fine. He is now 9 years old, he has slowed down a lot and can no longer  climb the stairs to bed (I have to carry him) nor can he jump on the settee. Last November he went blind but he's taken that in his stride & overcome it. On his walks he just wants to do his business & come back home. He does have a good quality of life & when people see him they can't believe that he is ill & blind. Mrs FB has done brilliant with him, he has been on 17 holidays in the MH with us since diagnosis & gets loads of love. When we walk him on the field everyone knows him and gives him a cuddle, he's such a good Lad. We just hope we can get him to his 10th birthday which is in October. On initial diagnosis the Vet was talking of as little as 4 weeks.

Next week we're taking him to a CL in Anglesey. Best wishes to you all.

Thanks for the update. I had to go through this with my old Collie cross, carrying him upstairs at night  and then down again the next morning to go in the garden. I have no doubt that he will make it to his 10th birthday and beyond because of all the special love and attention you are both showering him with.  Best Wishes to you all..
