Testing the electrical hook up point
Woke up late due to a person going around unplugging hook ups to do a test at 07.00 in the morning, by unplugging the power it switched off my alarm and made us sleep in which messed up our plans for the day, Well done Looe site management (NOT)

What a strange story!
I’ve been on two sites recently where there were notices advising of electrical testing and possible interruption of supply.
The only time I use an alarm in the van is if there’s an early ferry to catch. Otherwise, it’s holiday time so we’ll do it drekkly.

well I am amazed, with the greatest respect, that people have a plug in 240V alarm in a caravan, we just use our phones if we need an alarm?

Early Warning was given to me at Godrevy this year -- Sparky apologised that his ministrations would not improve the quality of TV programmes one iota
As for alarm clocks I'm 'Old School' in this -- I take my normal bedside alarm clock - battery operated - 'cos I need an early call to allow for my medication - recommended an hour before breakfast

I used to like the microwave for that in our caravan. Not got one in our MH so I have to press the button on top the battery alarm, if I wake and want to check the time. A 240 v one would show it all the time, but I can do without the additional wire.

I fitted a 12v clock/alarm in the MH. I can see the time in the middle of the night. I haven't deployed the alarm facility. I don't do early morning time critical stuff when away. Pottering about in the van yesterday, I noticed it's still on Euro time.

indeed each to their own, it was a plug in one I was amazed at. Too much faff on having to plug it in and set the time every new trip, for me that is.
Besides think of the wasted electricity when no one is there to look at it?
Actually I use my wristwatch (has a soft light) to tell the time during night hours, and yes I sleep with it on!!

One can get little plastic plugs to fit into 13 ampere sockets to stop the electricity leaking out when there is nothing plugged in. I'll can sell you some for £25 each.

Site staff don't start until 9.00 am so who would allow an electrician on site at 7.00 am?
If (big if) we need an alarm, we use the phone.

brilliant , I'll take 10 please, just post your bank details...

Morning
Firstly the club implement the good old working time directive which means we're not allowed to go over our contracted hours. No site staff would be working at seven am unless on an emergency, nor would they allow any contractor on site then.
We do monthly tests on all electrical equipment but would never disconnect someone's hook up without prior advice. We would test occupied bollards between customers visits.
Funnily though, I know the warden at Looe site and to him there's only one seven in the day and it's not early!

does a clock tell the time when no one is looking at it?

The OP was not asking for different ways of being awoken! Could it have been that a neighbour was having a problem with their hook up and made a bad decision to try next doors hook up? Not clever if that is what happened.

That happens quite a bit John. I'm guessing that was the case here
Strange thing is, if he was awoken at 7, how did he lay late?

We always use our phone for an alarm too and we always charge overnight, so it's well and truly charged up by the time we're ready to get up.
I do remember many years ago, at a non-Club site, when a group of kids thought it was amusing to go around and unplug everyone's EHU cable. It did cause some I'll feeling. I'm surprised that the wardens didn't put a note up about the testing - or perhaps it was in an inconspicuous place?

It could even have been a blip in the power supply that caused the problem. We get a few of them at home - just a long enough break to set the clocks flashing and then it’s back on.

very well spotted!
Were you a detective in a previous life?

Sounds like a total load of cobblers to me. Apologies for phrasing it honestly and bluntly. Life for some folks is made doubly stressful because their whole lives rely on someone else either doing, or in this case appearing to undo badly laid plans. We have been using alarms on our phones for around15 years, back when they were more like a walkie talkie brick. Never let us down. We also have a small wind up travel clock, folds away into its own leather case. This was a 21st birthday present, so it’s seen a lot of holidays. Time can be seen at night in dark, so we know what time it is if dog wakes us up.🙄
Plugging a clock in, on a campsite, where lots of things could trip the bollard? Bottom of the class for this one if your whole day depends on it. Some folks are just so bad at foreseeing the kind of issues that are not good ideas. Personally, I would love to see “Lessons in Common Sense” and “ Taking Responsibility” as part of National Curriculum.
Apologies for not doing empathy today, it’s my day off.☺️

just a few points, it is becoming more and more prevalent that mods move things from the story section in the discussion. Why is this? Is it to provoke discussion or perhaps the mod concerned thinks it is a worthy item of interest/discussion to the rest of CT, was it in this case? It appears to be a complaint? Are they all?
Often the OP does not come back on, is this because they do not know it has been moved? Does the mod tell them? if not what is the point of moving it as the OP will not get to know of any replies?
I am not talking about moderation btw, move as many stories as you like .
