In many cases your vehicle probably cannot be repair straight away and will need to wait a week or so.  I would prefer my vehicle to be parked on my drive until such time as it is ready to be repaired and then get a secondary breakdown company in to take it to a dealership.

I think the restriction of 10 miles from your residence is a ridiculous clause as many people there preferred garage is a lot further than 10 miles especially if is a high value vehicle and needs the franchised dealership to do the repair.

There are 4 Mercedes dealers within 10 miles of me ..... though Jeep don't fare as well. Obviously depends where you live.

There is a Bentley dealer up the road from us, but possibly a 200 mile trip for a service might be a bit far.

I have reported the issue about the link in the email which folk have been experiencing difficulty with.  Another email will be sent out with a better link, so that those who have  been experiencing problems can fill out the questionaire.

The problem I identified was that the link works fine if you click on the bottom part of the box.  If you click on the top half it takes you to the 'We are not taking any more responses' page.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

    David

If your caravan is stored at home and you do not have the same issue as many of us, I don't understand your contribution to this thread and I am unsure how 4 Mercedes Benz dealers are involved?

Although I store at home there is still the consideration of whether I will be brought home and re-collected days later for a trip to garage if car is not driveable

    Hi

i have just contacted CCC Rac Arrival. They will recover your car/caravan from anywhere in UK, take both back to your store, then take you and the car to a garage or home up to 75 miles from your store. Cost £110 - £15 voucher if a member of CCC. CAMC now have until April to mirror these terms, otherwise i will not be renewing my mayday recovery. And as previously stated these were the features i was told mayday would offer.

I am no lawyer, but given the number of members who have bee told this.... is this not a case of selling a product under the trade description act. As compensation, I would be happy for a cancellation of contract, with a full refund... to enable me to take out cover with the RAC. As it stands I do not have the cover I understood I paid for....

The “fix” mentioned earlier in this thread... can be a long time coming.....unlike any ‘breakdown’ which could happen tomorrow!!!

It does seem a bit of an own goal as far as T&C's are concerned, also totally illogical. Break down on the way to a booked destination and they will take you and your van onto the site and then transport your vehicle to a garage. On conclusion of your break, if not fixed, they will even transport everything back, albeit to only one destination.

However, if you decided not to continue with the holiday, you are only entitled (driver discretion accepted) to transport to one destination, home, garage or storage and then left to sort it out yourself.🤔

We are switching to a MH with a different breakdown / recovery within the insurance. Otherwise I would be seriously considering the C&CC offering at renewal.

For me, Mayday have until the end of August to sort out a new agreement with Mayday, after which I may well need to approach RAC Arrival through the CCC.

I did a quote on their website and the cost worked out at over £300 to recover our car and caravan?  I am not a member of the C&CC so maybe if you are a member the price is different?

Could it be that the price difference has to do with the level of cover.  £300 seems very expensive, Surfer.  Certainly more than double that which I am currently paying foe almost the top cover with Mayday.

There appears to be some discrepancy between the above quotes and the one I have just been quoted online...£192 for everything except additional driver.  I wonder if the CCC are aware of the Maydays shortcomings and  ‘adjusted’ the costings. I am a member and simply selected the options on cover.

And for me to cover the same things as Mayday the (covering OH as well) Cost for RAC version with C&CC is £235 Which I guess is about £100 more than Mayday although I would also get a £15 voucher back.

I can however see one or two possible gaps in the recovery.

    '

    Recovery
If we can’t fix your car, motorhome, caravan or trailer at the roadside, we’ll tow it, you and your passengers anywhere in the UK, if you’re more than a ¼ mile from home.

Arrival also has these unique features

Arrival Return – if your car, motorhome, caravan or trailer breaks down when you’re travelling to a campsite, and your trip is for at least 2 days, we’ll take it, you and your passengers to your campsite and back home again if your vehicle can’t be fixed while you’re away.

Arrival Follow-on Recovery -  if you’re towing a caravan or trailer, we’ll take it to a different location up to 75 miles from where we recover your car or motorhome.

I should have added that the cover we require is for 2 cars and also the "At home" clause.  That was for the quote which was in excess of £300 and included the so called free joining the C&CC.  Perhaps the "joining feed" was not free and added into the quote of about £365?

To be clear , using a current popular phrase, here is the breakdown of cover and their respective cost:

    Roadside £58.40

    Recovery £51.09

    Onward Travel £30.67

    At Home £52.55

    Total £192.71..  minus £15 voucher.

At the moment I am covered comprehensively through Mayday (except for the recently discussed double drop if you are recovered 'home').  That includes Personal cover for both my wife and I (i.e. we are covered in any vehicle as a driver or passenger), for £129 (last September).  It may well be worthwhile taking out an additional policy (cheaper), specifically to get me from my storeage to home or to the garage, with another company (in addition to my Mayday cover).  GreenFlag have already said they cannot run 'two policies' together, even if one is Mayday and the other is the 'freebee' through my bank account.  This might be the cheapest interim solution, while the Club are negotiating with GreenFlag.

Just done the quote again as if we were members and to cover both of us with dual recovery, at home etc the cost is £235.05.  Seems that if you are not a member and accept the free joining c&C the cost escalates quite a bit?

    I am not sure about the following;

if you’re towing a caravan or trailer, we’ll take it to a different location up to 75 miles "from where we recover your car or motorhome".

Does the underlined part mean from the place where you break down or the from the place where you were recovered to i.e. caravan storage compound?

I emailed them through the website about 2 weeks ago and have not had any respond.

In my Arrival hand book it says" we will recover the vehicle and passengers to a destination of your choice and the trailer/caravan to a destination of your choice up to 75miles from where we towed the vehicle

Maybe the RAC could employ somebody who knows how to ought correctly so as to give the correct information ib that case as the website certainly does not say that even if was meant to do so. Maybe poach somebody from one of the clubs laughing

The 75 miles is from your store to home or garage once the caravan has been dropped off.. The £110 is for the first two options.I do not require home start, I have Britannia Rescue via Nationwide.

We looked at the Nationwide Flexplus account however at £156 per annum decided it was not worth it and showed us no advantages except for Nationwide lining their purse.

We are already paying Mayday £109 so plus the £156 totals £265 so a lot cheaper to either join C&CC and use Arrival or to stay with Mayday and join another breakdown service with home start as that is where the car will be in the event Mayday drop the caravan off at the storage.

Still not sure who we would get to any breakdown via any of the following...

    a) Pan European Warranty cover with car (includes car recovery/hire of car/ limited accommodation)

    b) Basic roadside assistance including limited distance recovery with option to upgrade, with car insurance

    c) Basic roadside assistance with Bank a/c

Having said that i still object to paying Mayday(The Club) for a product which is not fit for purpose...and will have to rely on one of the above should I have to be recovered to storage...

    RAC Arrival have eventually responded to my query after 3 weeks with the following;

Thank you for your correspondence and apologies for the delay in responding to your query.

If we are unable to repair the vehicle, caravan or trailer, we will provide recovery of the vehicle and passengers to a single destination of your choice. If you are towing a caravan or trailer, we will take it to a location of your choice within 10 miles or up to 75 miles or unlimited miles based on your level of cover and circumstances.

I can confirm that we would not cover the cost of any transportation, accommodation or care of any animal. If we provide an onward transportation service for you and the passengers of a vehicle, any animals that were in the vehicle can only be transported in the broken down vehicle at your own risk. We will not transport animals in the recovery vehicle and we will not be liable for or insure any animal during any onward transportation, however any assistance animals must be transported with their owners.

As you have the option to be transported to a single destination of your choice, you can opt-in to be transported back to your home address first, then ring us again to arrange another tow to your trusted garage. There are many more options / alternatives depending on your breakdown circumstances at that moment.

The RAC Arrival package costs a bit more but for the security it offers I think it is the better option. Basically I need the caravan on the storage site and the car home to unload it. It is covered for breakdown by the manufacturers so presumably I could then get it towed to the garage if need be.

On the 15th March I was contacted by a David from the CMC who assured me that Mayday would be contacting us to discuss the issue of a caravan in storage etc as per the OP's post.

It is now the 29th March and as suspected Mayday has not bothered to follow up regarding the issue.  In all fairness someone did leave a message on the answerphone, but it was a bit garbled and the wife thinks it may have been Mayday however no further contact from Mayday so maybe not?

Very disappointed as we regard the issue as serious for us considering we were paying the premium rate.  If you are healthy and fit and have no pets then it is not really an issue.

Checking it does seem that the CMC does not really have a policy for those with disabilities, but perhaps I cannot find it?
