Sorry EasyT, never owned an electric kettle in any of our vans or a toaster!
Coffee in a cafetiere or stove top espresso and milk in a milk pan...but also the microwave on EHU if we've got it. Would really like a choice, especially in the summer.0 -
All the sites I go to overseas (absolutely every one) give me the option of taking a hook up or not, but lots of independent sites I have used in the UK do so too. Why is this Club so far out of step?

Really? "Lots" of independent sites? I'll take your word for it but you must be using very different sites to us (not that I've ever asked if any of them give the option). Whilst I do agree that there is a case for offering the option I don't think the club is actually very far out of step with most comparable providers.

Can you name them as it would help, as according to some posters EHU is not needed, so it would help point them in the right direction,or is this another of the usual type of post that some on here cannot name because?

for any refillable system it has a residual value down the line...or can be transferred to any subsequent vehicle...
you can write it down over (say) ten years and cost each year against the gas savings and the convenience of having a system that doesn't fall flat when a refill is required abroad...
we don't drag our cyclinders around, it moves when the van moves..the only dragging would be up to some exchange place if I wanted a Calor refill.

Hitch, we have the fridge and hot water running on gas, no need to keep the hot water turned on all day when we're out for most of it...
woth the residual heat in the tank, it's isually pretty warm when we need it, and just five mins on has has it back up to temperature.
we don't have a microwave so don't miss it's use...certainly not out here, phew!...But thinking of warmth and the fan, perhaps a 12v plug in one or rechargeable would do the trick....all from free sun fed leccy....
we also run satellite Tv, have a gas oven, a gas kettle so don't miss an EHU. we also charge ebike batteries via our inverter..
our (her) only issue with being non EHU is the hair dryer....I need a smaller wattage one for our small inverter, or a larger inverter...
on the 'to do' list....
the other thing to add is that, once free of EHU, it's not just the £3 site leccy that's not required, it's the whole 'necessity' of a site itself....bringing into focus other stopover places, if that's your thing.

I only have one site that I use regularly and that is Southport at December. The most that I can recall using any other site in the last 15 years is 3 times and that probably applies/will apply to 5 sites I think. After this year there may be a dozen that I have visited twice in 15 years. Not the best customer for repeat trade

Boff if you are still following this - Hope you don't mind me saying I find your post interesting because of the numbers that attended at this time of year (28 vans). So, wondering if it was a ‘special’ rally as it was at a commercial site and also if this is the usual numbers that turn up to CMC rallies held at this time of year.

I suppose I could tow the whole caravan along to get a refil on the gas when topping up the diesel but that seems even more complicated as cheapest diesel is Costco and (possibly only) gas is Morrisons, which is in opposite direction.
I do have a BIG inverter fitted and it works the microwave and hairdryer a treat - but most important of all, the espresso machine!

@Jayoutdoors, it was special in respect of it, was the first time a Rally had been run on this particular site. 28 pitches was the number the site allocated to us, there was in fact a waiting list. There was also another Rally at a village hall last weekend this was also full @ 20vans. Next weekend there are no Rallies, because the rally planed has been cancelled because of a problem on the site that was for 65 vans. I feel for the organisers of that one because sorting out the refunds will be a real pain.
PS I can only speak for our centres attendances not the caravan club as a whole

Optional EHU is a good idea as it’s becoming more and more usual that Caravans and Motorhomes carry at least some solar recharging facilities. That will only increase in future years. However, when a site (club or CL) has invested heavily in infrastructure, it can hardly be expected to reduce the cost by much whereas a simple, well kept field will offer just as much for the offgridder but without paying for the work done on the site.

I just my solar panel to keep the battery charged for using the mover before a trip. Of course when solar panels gives me the same comforts as EHU then things might change.
