It might be how it is JVB, but sadly we used less and less Club Sites each year now, and I think to a certain extent there is a sizeable clutch of members like us. 😕

People’s perception of “value for money” is very personal, you can’t really compare, best not to try and work that one out.
As for the Club doing well? Well shorter seasons for some sites, some of the AS coming off the network, investment in none touring based accommodation.........the Club is changing. It is hanging on to its core clientele, while trying and possibly succeeding in attracting newer, younger members. You don’t have to be a member don’t forget to use the Experience Freedom lets. Double win if you get a member to book it for you as well!🤔😲😀

I do not know about "shorter"? seasons unless there is work being carried out, it does seem that the ideas of attracting younger members who these day perceptions of "value" seem far removed from when it seems a big portion of CTers were young, and as spoken about elsewhere, non members in other types of club accomodation seems to be taking off as it seems the same with the ccc,so it will be "interesting" to see in the future what else is introduced, holiday cottages on club sites seem to have been popular for decades

What I find more difficult to understand with the CC, is their apparent inability to recognise when prices are out if step with demand at certain sites. We don't usually go away in the school summer holidays, however due to circumstances we did in 2018, and spent a lovely 10 days in glorious weather at Malvern. The price wasn't bad at £27.90. However the site was far from full at weekends and only a third to half during the week. Malvern is not perhaps the most obvious holiday destination for families and as a lot of us retired folk hibernate during peak, this was reflected in the occupancy figures. Despite that the CC has increased summer peak for 2019 by 5.7%. I would have been looking to extend Mid week discount into August, as they did for a few sites last year, rather than an above inflation rise.

So with regards to Off Peak Prices, our experience for our booking for the first week of February gave us a chuckle.
Now bare in mind we normally use commercial sites, not the huge noisey Haven types, more rural retreats, but at the higher end of the price bands.
For the CAMC we pay the "Joining" fee, to then pay "More" to use a site that was in a fantastic location, but the site itself for the money was mediocre to poor, and out of the three sites on our list, the most expensive.
We chuckled because, having paid our money we then get a wonky pitch, one of the two toilet blocks shut, the remaining one had cubicles closed all of our stay, refuse bins deliberately placed upside down by the wardens so no one could use them, etc etc.
Why?
It did make us laugh, reminded me of the camp site on Carry on Camping.
"Want to use an extra bin sir?, that will be a pound".
"Shower sir? Another pound I'm afraid"
"Oh you wanted hot water?......... pound"
My point being, I'm quite happy to pay high fees provided, I receive a matching service.
Didn't happen at Sandringham.

How many sites have you used so far, Daz?
It's good your sense of humour remains intact.😀

Please dont call me Daz, my name is Darren.
Thanks.

We have two more bookings with the CAMC, let's just say they are under review.
October we are back to Sandringham, but this could very well change to Kelling Heath, a large site with it's own Halt, a platform for the steam train return trip from Sherringham.
May holiday in South Wales, looking at the moment for possible alternatives to our CAMC booking.
As I say, I will happily pay a higher than average price but dont give me a reduced service.

You’re the first Darren I’ve found who's objected to the familiar form. OK, we don't want others getting the same idea, do we?👍🏻

I doubt that given its location and the tendency for many fired folk to stay at home and probably sort out gardens and attend to other things that it would have brought in enough extra users to merit reductions

well always look on the Brit side of life

I don't mind moaning but I can't understand why those moaning keep on using club sites?
Or to paraphrase a post from Moulsey. I did some shopping at Aldi today, a lot cheaper than Sianburys so I can't wait to post that on the Sainburys' forum.

I use the local (within walking) shops too, but when I have to, like I have run out of something, but using and booking a site weeks in advance is not the same, if the price is too expensive you have plenty of time to look round for a cheap site. There are not that many club sites in an area by themselves, there will be one withing a few miles.

Totally agree with you; we do the same, I wasn't prepared to pay £22.40 per night at Bladon Chains in March, so I didn't book it. At other times, we do use club sites if it suits, and the price is right, or, as in the case of Bristol for example, we'll pay the extra to be in a certain area/town.
It's all about choice, and personal opinion; I've chosen to pay well over £20 per night in the past because I wanted to be there; I've also chosen not to pay over £20 per night, because IMHO it wasn't worth it.

which is exactly what I have been posting, too expensive/not worth it - don't pay

By and large any enterprise will match its prices to that of its competitors in the surrounding area and any differential is likely to be minimal. Caravanners are mostly constrained to sites and therefore faced with pay up or find a cheaper area. Perhaps this is why there is a growth in motorhomers seeking cheaper alternatives - pubs/supermarket carparks/quiet spots etc because they are reluctant to pay for a service that is perceived as either mediocre or charging for more than they actually want/need.
Pricing is all too often based on 'what the market will bear' rather than the true cost of the provision plus a reasonable profit.

The price wasn't bad at £27.90
what?....nearly £30 for Malvern....not bad?
Steve, that's over £200 a week for a pitch....
however, i agree with your following comment.....no wonder it was far from full.

nail and head, CY...
a bit different for me as I'm over 'here' but we've stopped in four towns (and explored them to our satisfaction) in the last two days and haven't been near a site....
yes, 'what the market will bear' is what will eventually change things...
i can see 40 vans from my window that aren't interested in what the 'market will bear' as we are all in Tavira behind the fish market overnighting for gratis....
when touring in the way that we are doing now (after leaving a long term site) to pay £30 in the uk or €20+ here is only acceptable if you need something from the site...pool, washing machines, a decent 'feet up' rest period...
we will probably do that in a couple of days time at Cadiz but I can see why folk are starting to baulk at the prices being bandied about in this thread...
once folk start thinking £28 odd is 'acceptable' the club has Carte Blanche over pricing...

It's a nice site BB in a nice area and I doubt similar sites in the area would be much different in price during the school summer holidays. The C&CC site next door isn't, although it did seem to have a greater occupancy. Possibly as it accepts tents and the weather last summer was so good. Some of the lack of occupancy may be due to the decreased bus service and closure of local shops, which may put off MH owners who want to use public transport. My point was really, is a 5.7% rise the best way to attract more folk in the summer holidays.

thanks for that....let's revise it and say 'almost £200'....
