Mayday and Caravan Storage

Surfer....I was referring to the Interim period.....in that I suspect it may well be quite some time before the "double drop" element is agreed between the Club (Mayday) and Green Flag who in turn have to agree the amendment with all of their independent contractors. (Green Flag do not have their own fleet of recovery vehicles)

That is where another problem would arise as it depends on the company/driver at the time we have had both scenarios on one occasion tour dog was with us in the breakdown vehicle and next she had to be in the car on the transporter, which was fine as it was a level flatbed, but not sure if it had as some a sloping rear

Our dog would not be at all happy. Personally, I would tell the person when initially ring and say I would be quite happy to wait until a dog friendly vehicle becomes available. I would certainly be happier to wait than to risk leaving our dog alone in the car. She's only small and absolutely no bother when she is with us - but she has separation anxiety. If we left her on her own in the car: firstly, she would get upset and stressed; secondly, she would systematically start dismantling the interior of the vehicle; thirdly, I have great concern about leaving dogs in vehicles especially if its a hot day - leaving the window slightly open doesnt always do the job!
Fortunately, in the past, we have always been able to take her in the cab with us - she just sits on Carol's lap and goes to sleep.

After doing another check with Green flag (Mayday) we have now decided to go for Rac arrival (ccc)until the caravan club sort out the problems when a caravan is in storage, and for the first year we also get "free" ccc membership (so two firsts for us)which works out cheaper all round as it will all start on 1st March when Mayday expires

Went on ccc site to look for arrival and up came two options one for non members giving free membership £49 and the other giving £15 voucher to members,,just see if all the info comes in the one pack
ps as a very "old cc member" i no longer pay for membership, so i would be no worse of next year if cc have not got Mayday sorted although arrival is more expensive it covers what we need and the older one gets the less stress is needed

We were C&CC club members from Dec 2017 for the first time JVB and so used over one full season. In truth we joined to use two sites in particular for their location (Braithwaite Fold and Moffat) we did also use Salisbury, Canterbury, Polstead and St Neots for location. We were not keen on Salisbury as it was very open and boring with little trees - bit like being on a plain really but did like its location. We also used obe of their affiliated sites in the borders

That would be fun for those with a very large dog.

Is there anyone else on here who has two policies with Green Flag.... e.g. one with Mayday cover with the CAMC and another as inclusive Greenflag cover as part of a bank account e.g. a Natwest account?
What I want to establish is if I can be recovered to storeage under my Mayday policy and then, without having to call out another recovery van, be recovered straight away from storage to either home or to my repairers.
I shall try and get a difinitive answer to this next week. I dont particularly want to get to storage and the have to ring again for someone else.
Wish me luck!

I wish they would sort this out1, I broke down last March only 5 miles from the storage and were kept waiting for 5 hours before the truck turned up. He loaded the car on the truck and hitched the van up and took the caravan to the storage and then the car to the garage (there was no humming or harring). We were left there and we had to get a taxi home. We broke down again a month later this time only 65 miles from the site, again it took 5 hours to get a truck to us, but we were taken onto our site and were told that a truck would be there the next day to take the car to a garage. We declined that offer as he couldn't guarantee a time.
But to be able to get more or less the same cover from the C&CC through the RAC will cost me over £100,00 more just so that I can have the peace of mind about double drop. Is it worth it?

I reckon it is. £100 vs all that aggro - it’s a no brainer.

It seems that for many years the CC has mislead us regarding the Mayday coverage. We have been paying the Premium rate in the belief that all eventualities would be covered so in essence we have been paying the extra for nothing! Do we claim the extra we have been paying form the CC or from Green Flag?
Also although paying the extra our Jeep in some cases requires a Jeep franchise dealer to do the repair plus we have a service contract with the franchised dealer even though the Jeep is 6 years old. It also has a complete Jeep service history which adds value to it. Unfortunately this Jeep dealer is 65 miles from out home.
Where does that leave us?

We have only had two breakdowns in 8 years fo ownership of Jeeps. the first was shortly after we purchased the Jeep. The rear brake shoes fell apart. It seemed that the previous owner never used the handbrake. Secondly was when it went into limp mode due to a faulty sensor.
So overall Jeep seems a lot more reliable that many of the BMWs, LRs around our neck of the woods that we see by the side of the road. BTW our 2005 Jeep was not associated with Fiat in anyway.
However whatever you are driving you want peace of mind and not the rubbish recovery Mayday is offering!

@ Surfer ..... It also has a complete Jeep service history which adds value to it.
Does it?
PS I'd suggest a lot of auto drivers don't use the hand/parking brake ..... I rarely do but that's not resulted on the shoes falling apart.

Whilst the club are hopefully sorting out this debacle those of us who feel they need a secondary cover to ensure they can get their vehicles where they need to be could possibly do worse than have a look on Groupon where you can get basic cover for very little expense

I have just had an online chat with GreenFlag (for the last 45 minutes) to ask if a MayDay policy and a GreenFlag policy through my bank account can be used simultaneously in order to provide recovery of both vehicles to my storeage and then recovery of my car from storeage to either home or a repairer.
They have confirmed that not only can this not be done seamlessly, but it cannot be done at all! It appears it is irrelevant that I have two seperate policies. They are treated as one.
I suspect, however, that if you had MayDay cover and a secondary cover through another provider other than Green Flag (e.g. RAC, AA etc), it may be that this is a possibility. It would be up to individuals to check with their own provider.
I now need to find out definitively if the Arrival cover supplied by the C&CC through the RAC actually do provide this level of cover.
This problem which has been identified with Mayday cover, I will pursue further - but it could very well be after the next Club Council Meeting before I am able to report back further.

I suspect part of the issue you describe, David, is governed by the double insuring prohibition. At my last renewal RAC Arrival were very concerned to establish I did not already have cover provided elsewhere - bank, new vehicle etc.

Well I would have mentioned it but only just got the email, went to fill out the questionnaire only to be told "We are not taking any more responses!"
They have either had a massive response which overwhelmed them or they don't like the answers they are getting & decided to close it early.

Mine lives at home too. However, about 12 months ago (or is it two tears, time flies when you are enjoying yourself) I was solo when I had a front coil spring go on the car and ripped through the tire. I was taken home and the car was collected a few days later after I had booked in to my local garage. Was that 'Grace and Favour' or part of the cover? I shall look carefully at renewal as I shall for caravan insurance.
