Member Offer: My Esso Card

And the club continue to promote this debacle. In the latest (Feb) magazine a full page advert on p21 then a (almost) half page ad on p78!
I doubt the club has much influence with PK Fuels, Pump-King or whatever name it is going by this week as they don't appear to have much influence on what appears in print in their own magazine!

A: My Esso Card is the only consumer facing fuel card. (Esso).
So does that mean the only consumer facing fuel card or the only Esso consumer facing fuel card?
A: If you register for a My Esso Card via www.myessocard.com you are registering your details with My Esso Card and not with the Caravan and Motorhome Club. If you register for My Esso Card you will be entering into a legal agreement with PK Fuel Limited. See full Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy by visiting www.myessocard.com.
Neat trick if you can do this as www.myessocard.com. no longer functions as a web page and no redirect
A: To register visit www.myessocard.com and use access code CAMC-1118-MEC. Complete the simple online form and you will receive the card within 28 working days. Once your card has arrived you will need to login to your My Esso Account to access your unique PIN number (PIN available within 24 hours of registering).
Again: Neat trick if you can do this as www.myessocard.com. no longer functions as a web page and no redirect
A: There is no sign up fee, no transaction fee, no processing fee and no minimum spend.
No minum spend but penalised if you buy less than 15 litres. May well be more than the saving so I would say that you would be penalised
A: The saving varies based on the My Esso Card special rate and Esso pump price rate. On average you will save 8p per litre on premium diesel or unleaded fuel and 5p per litre on standard diesel or unleaded fuel. That’s a typical saving of £5.60 per tank on premium fuel or £3.50 on standard fuel (based on 70 litre tank of fuel).
For the average savimgs to be at 8p and a minimum of 1p this suggests that savings well beyond 8p must be available if 8p is the average Any users noticed this?
For me the FAQs raise as many as they answer

"It's up to the club to explain things clearly."
I'll try not to hold my breath waiting
The lack of anything worthwhile from the club is staggering really, which is why others have to make assumptions about the whole debacle AND still they promote it?
Crazy really

I contacted The Club about a double payment taken by Pump king in January and a month later in December. I recieved a message back from Megan Boyd from The Club stating refunds were happening.
I checked my bank account this morning and the refund was there. No e mail or phone call from Pump King to state they were refunding, I think i may hang back a month or 6 weeks before using the card again. Just so that my other transactions are not duplicated.

I’m not making assumptions along the lines of it being a scam, data gathering exercise or whatever, but it’s sure as hell safe to assume that hassle may very likely be incurred when applying for this card.

Anyone else notice that Pump-King have changed the start of their week from Sunday to Monday for this coming week. Don't get caught out and fill up today (although there is only a £0.002 difference on diesel between this coming week's price and the last week).

Hi all
We've had some reports this morning that the links on the product page are working for some users but not others. We have raised this with the Member Offers team but if you are trying to access the website this weekend this link takes you to the same site. The page will appear slightly different at the moment but you can register and log in as normal.
Thank you all for your patience while we & the operators resolve the issues that have been raised.

Morning all. Having at long last received “The Card” I have ploughed through nearly all these pages only to have doubt raised as to whether I should actually use it. There are lots of complaints/comments directed at the CAMC and Pump King (aka PK Fuel Ltd) but no-one appears to mention WEX who actually issue the card (or at least the one I have). Has anyone contacted WEX or have any idea what their involvement is in the administration of this offer? Is it possible WEX bears some responsibility for all the problems? Especially the double charging.

Up here it is 2p a litre cheaper at Tesco than the price in the email.
And Tesco is less than a mile away on a road much travelled rather than off a motorway intersection miles away that I never use.

My Esso Card or Pump King or whatever they are now calling themselves is an absolute joke!!! I ordered my card through the Club's website on the 7th December and still don't have a card.
When you look up My Esso Card's details they were only incorporated in April 2018 as Pump King and they also incorporated in Luxembourg too!!!
If you try to phone them the phone just rings and rings and then you get diverted to an international ringing tone and finally a voice mail box.
Quite frankly this company appears to be as dodgy as hell and I'm incredibly surprised and disappointed that the Caravan and Motorhome Club doesn't appear to have carried out ANY due diligence before making it public on our website.
I suggest that the Club withdraws any advert on the website regarding this company and I am getting VERY close to referring "My Esso Card" / Pump King to Trading Standards and also the Information Commissioner's Office for further investigation.
I signed up and passed all my personal details including debit card details to this company and I'm getting more and more concerned that they are not being stored in a safe manner.
If they can't sort out the card debacle how on earth can we expect them to store our personal data in a safe manner!!!

They may be a joke but judging by many members' posts the fun has not really started for you yet.

Have read through some of these posts and am glad I didn't sign up for it. Part of that decision was the fact that debit card details are needed and I'm not keen on giving those out more than necessary. I also noticed that, whilst the "headline saving" is promoted as 8p per litre, further reading shows that the 8p is actually for premium diesel. For standard diesel it is 5p per litre. We never use premium diesel anyway, our nearest Esso garage is 6 miles away whereas Tesco is less than a mile. I just wasn't convinced it was worth it.

It was the same for me. I didn't want to give debit card details linked to my current account to a company I new nothing about. Opening another account would have been a faff.
Frankly I am amazed that folk who haven't signed up are still considering it after reading the details contained in this thread.

We have five major supermarkets with fuel stations with easy reach of us so I didn't think this scheme would be much benefit for me personally. Perhaps I should point out that I don't buy a massive amount of fuel as my small car only does about 2500 miles a year and the motorhome the same. It is rumoured that 90000 people have tried to sign up for this scheme. If that is true surely a fair number of people will be within easy reach of a supermarket? Perhaps people need to think more carefully whether this offer really does provide them with a real benefit with meaningful savings?

Essocard / pumpking this week is £1.25 for diesel....
We have a Morrisons and a Sainsburys, both are currently charging £1.29 per litre for diesel, we have a Tesco but it doesn't have fuel, and we have no Asda, and I believe it is in fact Asda that drives fuel prices in any town, all others seem to just match them.
We have recently spent a few days away, and saw diesel at £1.23, so better than this weeks essocard price, but that isn't our home town, and our nearest Asda is 45 miles away, where all supermarkets are always 4 or 5 pence cheaper than here, if only it didn't cost £10 to get there....
Whether the essocard is a saving on your fuel bill depends on what you have available locally and how much those supermarkets can get away with charging. In our town our 2 supermarkets have always, so far, been more expensive than essocard and historically, we have usually found diesel to be more expensive at home than pretty much anywhere...

Like you, we've found our local fuel prices to be higher than the PK price, so will be a regular user - especially as there are several local Esso stations.
As someone who has done some major IT-related launches in my career, it seems to me that they've just gone too big too quickly. It's very easy to do, and you end up in an impossible situation. Do you take experienced people off the phones to train new temp staff? How can you communicate when you have a customer base you are quick to spot every flaw? Sure, it's easy to say that you should have planned better - but that doesn't help you now.
What would I do? I'd immediately pause sending out new cards until I could get a grip on the admin of the ones that are already out there. Only when the number of errors and calls were becoming manageable would I send the next batch of cards out.
I haven't received my card yet - but in the bigger scheme of things I'd rather that PK succeed with their business venture - and if that means I have to wait a few weeks more, so be it.

What would I do?
What I might have done is send out an e-mail to clients and those awaiting cards to let them know that the web address had changed or at least ask my partner to alert members or at least update the details on their website.
