Have any members experienced negative post brexit reaction from our European neighbours while touring abroad?

No, as the actual brexit hasn't occurred yet and no-one knows under what terms, any reaction would be mere speculation.

We started asking local people in France and got bemusement from some, but envy from others, so we stopped asking.

Just back from 7 weeks on the continent - no negative reaction at all in France, Germany, Switzerland or Italy.  Probably a bit early to gauge at this stage as no one has the foggiest idea what terms will be agreed.

Two years time or so will see what resentment or envy materialises, but even then, people in the tourist industry abroad will just have to be pragmatic about the outcome as their livelihood will depend on it.

I've heard everything from "poor misguided souls" to "wish we could do the same" to "good riddance", so it's difficult to make any generalisation.

Sorry everyone but I’ll be closing this thread due to its political nature.

    Thanks

Whilst in Germany we were ask by a fair number of people about it and a lot of them were envious that Brits were allowed a referendum.  Again a lot seemed to think we made the right decision.

As in all things Brexit related, it would appear to be negotiable or we're awaiting a CT members vote on it.smile

Have to say we had no adverse reaction whatsoever when touring the Netherlands and Germany this year. Plenty of discussion but no antagonism.

Didn't notice anything either way when we were in France this year visiting family. Although B in L says they are bemused by why we would want to. As am I.

We are currently staying in Germany near Frankfurt and the overall reaction of the locals we have talked to is sadness that we are leaving. They just do not understand how we could possibly vote to leave as it is in no one's interest.  True, they say, the EU needs reforming but surely it is better to do that from the inside.  !00% have said that they hope our leaving the EU will not stop us travelling; I reassure them that we managed to tour without any problems before we joined the EU and that we would continue after we leave.

I suppose with a fascist government in Hungary, nearly so in Austria, but once again no government at all in Belgium, the mafia still pulling strings in Italy, the Catalans seeking independence  in Spain, and the mob burning cars in Paris, many in Europe must be surprised that our patience has been so great  and that our EU membership has lasted so long.

I am far from puzzled at the reasons for Brexit. I suspect that many of those that voted leave did so knowing that there would be a financial hit in separation. Obviously I am not permitted to discuss further

Didn’t someone try to reform from inside?

The irony, of course, is that our very leaving may very well concentrate their minds and get them to introduce the changes that may well have kept us in! Then again the bureaucrats may decide to hang onto the power, who knows?

Don't fret, in case there is no deal the Gov are spending over £100 million  on contracts for extra ferries, but if there is a deal they can keep most of the contract money.

As this is turning into a proper discussion about Brexit I will close it again. Not sure how it was reopened, obviously easier than reopening the negotiations with the EUwink
