Well out of interest, and having few minutes to spare I did click on the link. My impression was savings on pump prices, indeed that's what's stated. Thus to me it would include VAT as that is included in the pump price. I certainly couldn't see any mention of VAT but I did not delve deeper.

I went to comment on the story and low however I tried I only got the page not found. Where has it gone? If it's been moved to discussions I cant see it.

Oh the deep Joy's of this forum

Edit I see EasyT managed to comment in the story at 1100, my edit started 1107 😟😂😂 so I must have been searching even closer to EasyT's post!

2nd edit it's now disappeared from latest stories. Stranger and stranger! Is it because it's considered very negative if its truthful??

think people are overly complicating the Esso Card, I have one and have used it and it is very simple 1, you pay the price per ltr quoted each friday received via a text message, which is my case was 8p cheaper than my nearest Shell station, 2. you pay using your Esso card using your pin which is available on your profile page on the Esso Card site, you need to register and log in, 3. in my case 5 days later my current account was debited the cost, e.g. in my case 50 ltrs at 26 pence. Its not rocket science, but it does save money in my case £8 and Esso garage is only 2 miles from home, so no problems, love it.

But did you manage to read the story before it vanished?

Basically poster got an invoice to which VAT was added to the pump price, as I read it, making the bill greater than expected.

Well we filled up the vehicle last Wednesday or 10 days ago and our account still has not been debited by Esso and no sign of it being debited over the weekend.

Consequently this morning we topped by at a Gulf service station which was £0.01p more than the Esso discounted price as we did not want two debits hanging around for weeks on end especially towards the month end.

well if there is i have not seen it, I have now paid for 90 ltrs of diesel at 1.26 pence per ltr and my current account has been debited for that amount less a £5 credit i obtained for the mismanagement of the role out, if i should receive a vat invoice, i will send it direct to the club, as that was not part of the deal and cannot see that it was ever quoted as being part of the deal

You only need one to start a rumour and everyone jumps and believes what they have said. If i said fuel duty will be added at the end of the year somebody will take it that its true and kick off. you get a text with fuel prices and you use your card, if it takes 5 days to come out of your account then just make sure you account for this. I have used my debit card and waited 6 days for the money to come out because of bank holidays etc. Yes, some supermarket pump prices will be cheaper but to be honest I would never use them as I look after my car and it runs better on the premium fuels. If you don't want to save money on quality fuels then don't get the card. Simples.

Psssst, I bought a jar of ‘better & cleaner pixie dust’ for £100, add a pinch per tank of fuel, guaranteed a winner. It’s backed by the big 5 fuel companies, so it must be kosher👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎

To parody Janet Webb from the Morecambe & Wise shows, " I've used supermarket fuel for the last thirty years and it never did me any harm."

I received an email this morning from 'My Esso Card' telling me the amount ( £58:35) they were requesting by DD from my account, the receipt from the petrol station for 46.2 Litres of regular diesel @ £1:259/Ltr which works out to £58:17 which gives a difference of 18p, so someone at 'My Esso Card' has got there sums wrong.

The RAC is now listing average fuel prices but our local Morrison's is selling unleaded at £1.15 just now.

    RAC listings HERE

with a detailed explanation of fuel pricing changes.

Their fuel efficiency guide makes good reading too.

Following on from my previous post, the way I understood Rowena's opening post members would get the stated savings off the advertised pump price.Seems as the offer is TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

not sure which Esso card you have been given but last weeks price for regular diesel should have been £1.236 per ltr as per the text message. Have to say I have never had an email saying they were going to take any monies from my account, it just happened. I cant believe I am the only person for which this card is working correctly undecidedFor all those not in the know next weeks price for regular diesel is £1.199 per ltr, but if you prefer super market diesel please go ahead laughing

from what i recall the post stated that each Friday we would be sent a text message giving the Esso Card price for regular/premium petro/diesel per ltr, so e.g. this coming week the price for regular diesel using your card should be £1.199 per ltr, irrespective of the pump price, in fact without checking back there is some formula that says that if the pump price falls to less than the card price then Esso guarantee to give you a saving of 1 pence over whatever that price may be, so technically you should never loose out, it is just that the saving will be not so great.

this is what the offer states

    quote

    What is the saving?

On average members will typically save 8p per litre on premium diesel or unleaded fuel and 5p per litre on standard diesel or unleaded fuel. That’s a typical saving of £5.60 per tank on premium fuel or £3.50 on standard fuel (based on 70 litre tank of fuel).

The saving varies based on the My Esso Card special rate and the Esso pump price rate. In the unlikely event that the pump price is lower than the My Esso Card special rate members are guaranteed to save 1p per litre on the pump price. You can use the My Esso Card to fill up all your vehicles, not just the one you tour with.

    unquote

so your saving will vary dependant upon the card price vs the pump price.

In my eyes there is no saving - fuel prices at supermarkets are the same as 'THE CARD' price - if not cheaper.

Fuel is all the same - it all comes from the various refineries around the country - if you prefer shopping at Harrods as apposed to Lidl/Aldi/Asda etc then so be it.

It is annoying having debits hanging around for a week or more before they happen.  Not sure why you think it is interest free credit?  Not an issue if we were able to link it to our CC.
