Caravan number plate
I have just changed cars and need to affix a new stick on number plate to the caravan. Is it necessary to remove the old plate or will sticking (with double sided pads) the new one on to the old one suffice? Many thanks in anticipation and a merry Christmas to you all.

A fair point MM. I Think I wont be so lazy and remove the previous plate!

I’ve heard of warming with a hair dryer to soften the glue.

I have a "cheese-wire" I made years ago using that brass muti strand wire sold for wall hanging pictures, with two handles of sticks cut from pruning an apple tree. The wire is sold in a little envelope in appropriate DIY stores, and of course any round 1 > 1.5 cm diameter sticks or dowel would suit.

The van we have kept longest was a Hobby and this was towed by several different cars, ours and my employers, and had a frame which the number plate clipped into making it a simple easy job to change over when required.
I would try the heating first, if that is practicable, or the slow peel.

I used double sided tape to fix a new number plate - the plate fell off. Make sure you get a good quality tape.

Thank you everybody. Some good ideas there.
