I have just changed cars and need to affix a new stick on number plate to the caravan. Is it necessary to remove the old plate or will sticking (with double sided pads) the new one on to the old one suffice? Many thanks in anticipation and a merry Christmas to you all.

I suppose you could stick it on the old plate but removing your old plate isn't difficult. If you bought a 3rd car while owning this caravan, would you stick a 3rd plate on top of the other two? 😉

They say dental floss makes a good cheese cutter .... 😉 though I've just pulled them off from one end.

I’ve heard of warming with a hair dryer to soften the glue.

I have a "cheese-wire" I made years ago using that brass muti strand wire sold for wall hanging pictures, with two handles of sticks cut from pruning an apple tree. The wire is sold in a little envelope in appropriate DIY stores, and of course any round 1 > 1.5 cm diameter sticks or dowel would suit.

Some years ago I brought a frame for the van where I can use different vehicles to tow just by opening the frame and replacing the number plate.

The van we have kept longest was a Hobby and this was towed by several different cars, ours and my employers, and had a frame which the number plate clipped into making it a simple easy job to change over when required.

I would try the heating first, if that is practicable, or the slow peel.

I have used monofilament fishing line to help neighbour remove his plate a few years back. Doesn't scratch the van

I used double sided tape to fix a new number plate - the plate fell off. Make sure you get a good quality tape.

There's double sided tape and there are double sided sticky pads especially for the job Halfords or ..... I just used half a packet of sticky pads from WHS to fix mine & it's still there.

I used 5 double sided pads supplied by the "number plate shop" and some time later on a hot sunny day I found the plate on the floor. It is now screwed on tight.

Just unlucky, cr4ppy sticky pads or you didn't clean either or both faces up properly. I've stuck number plates to various cars & caravans, even curved faces, with no problems, even in last summer's very hot weather. 😉
