My story so far, I ordered my card on the 1st December, on the 10th I emailed MyEssoCard to say I hadn't received it. Told in an email that because of the high demand there would be a delay, today (20th) I still haven't received the card but I do have a pin number on my account! Emailed them again and got a standard reply that someone will contact me shortly, still waiting!

I think it about time the Club sorted the issue out for its members.

    you  serious? 🤔🤔

EasyT is suggesting looking into your recycle bin (on the computer) in case any reply has been labelled 'spam' and been automatically binned

I thought the comment related to fuel prices. Aren't the price updates sent as texts. They wouldnt go to an email spam folder. On my iPhone they just sit within sender groups within the messages folder.

Tesco Mobile allows users to set blocks on their numbers for Premium Rate calls and texts.

I have that set on the number I used for my Esso card.

If PK Fuels are making a bit on the side by using Premium Rate texts for the weekly updates then that may be one possible reason for texts not appearing on my phone.

Your reply seemed to indicate you were/are not getting texts and hence the question to see if that was a point of similarity. So far they have not replied - other than the standard automated response - to my query about lack of texts.

I thought that function was to stop you, or someone else, accidentally sending texts to a premium rate number. Do you get charged for incoming texts? Surely it would be a more common scam if you were.

    sorry off topic.

I also went through a similar experience, and agree the role out of this card has been pretty shambolic, probably because they were not geared up for the demand, however, I now have a functioning card and just for clarification, you get a text every Friday with the following weeks prices, not an email so no going to junk box etc, it is a text message and should be FOC , the card last week was £1,26 for regular diesel, pump price was £1.31, Shell £1.33, Asda £1.29 and there was a queue.

One slight anomoly i was asked for car registration as well as having to use my pin, thought card was valid for any vehicle, but no big deal as long as you can remember registration that you gave when applying I dont think for one moment that pump attendant is going to check.

It's a common scam - try searching for "do I pay for incoming premium rate texts"

An update to my saga! Christmas Eve and I am still waiting for my card, I had a message from the Club that said the same as the distributor that they have a backlog of applications. But, did admit I had waited an unusually long time. Another email to MyEsso Card and the same stock answer. Not impressed with either organisation!

All the Club have done is to facilitate this offer, they don't have any role in the organisation of members getting the card as far as I know. I appreciate that it is frustrating but only My Esso Card can sort it out. The problem now is that it is Christmas Eve so you may have to wait even longer which is disappointing. I wonder if the card company realised that it would be so popular? On one Facebook group I belong to there seem to be a lot of very happy members making use of their cards so the scheme has been very popular so it is obviously beneficial when you actually get it.

Never mind about extra whisky and mince pies. How about leaving your My Esso Card out just in case Rudolph needs refuelling!

come on everybody, it's called being patient. It's an offer that's free to you so why have a moan about how long it's taking. I bet there's thousands in the same boat. surprised

    In case anybody is wondering:

The text messages are free of charge

You can use it with different cars, the registration registered!! Is just for security checks if you ring them.

You don't have to give your mileage reading if you don't want to.

It's a free service and works well and is saving me around a fiver a week between the 2 cars. So why wouldn't you?

And you get Tesco points, and decent fuel.

Bit of a no brainer really.

Why wouldn’t I? Well, I’m not keen on a third party holding my card details, there’s no Esso garage near me and it might save me perhaps as much as £5 per year! That’s why I wouldn’t.

It's a no brainer for sure but not in the way you mean. Don’t assume we would all be in the same situation as you.

We have had our Esso card for about 3 weeks and to be honest it is not worth the hassle to save a couple of pence.  It can take over a week for the amount to be debited from the debit card linked to the account.

We are still waiting for fuel bought last week on Wednesday to be debited from our current account.  It is not even a pending debit.  Unfortunately it was a large amount so every day I have to check the balance in our current account as we prefer to keep a minimal amount of cash in the account as a few years ago we had a card cloned and the account drained.

As for using it overseas on the continent as it is linked to a debit card, there is a good possibility you may incur transaction charges on the debit card.  If the card was linked to a CC then we would have no issue.

A good idea but poorly managed by the fuel company issuing the cards so more than likely we will be cancelling our card as it is too much hassle to use just to save £3 on a tank of fuel!

As many people have alread pointed out, the uptake on this offer has far exceeded the level of demand that was expected.  I wonder how this will affect how generous the discount will actually be in future.

My reasoning is that the sales through the card are a sort of "base load" to give a continual steady sale of products to make the running of the whole import/refining/distribution system financially viable. If the "base load" was not there then the more profitable retail sales would have to be made at a much higher price to cover the overheads.

For fleet owners it is possible to give added value in terms of all sorts of analysis to keep them using that brand while the price creeps up, but really none of that will be of use to individual purchasers.

It would be nice if the card ordered on 23 November would actually arrive so that I can take advantage of the offer. I have the PIN and get the prices but can't use the card I don't have.

    Shambles!

Also, if I don't get it soon, I will have even less chance, ie none compared to more or less none, of winning the free fuel draw at the end of the month.

    Here’s an interesting tale.

Shame it’s in Stories rather than this thread as it introduces another issue people should be aware of.

I agree Husky but unless you're in business VAT is part of the price on the ticket or in this case the pump, Joe Public cannot reclaim it. Unless VAT is mentioned in the offer it probably wouldn't occur to most that it wouldn't be included - this saving to them would be on the pump price on the board or pump.

Considering the price we pay for fuel is heavy on tax, I presume the margins are tight and rely on volume sales??? Thus 5 - 8p a litre is huge and Rowena quotes over £5 a tank, so although I didn't explore the offer myself VAT flashed through my mind.

Has anyone else had the issue? I was intrigued by an invoice being quoted? I'd assumed the amount would be deducted from your debit card otherwise the work involved in issuing invoices would be astonishing!
