    I’m with you, Steve.

A credit card with a low-ish limit is one thing but a debit card and my bank account is quite another.

I would like to ask everybody, how do you pay the utility companies and your council tax and telephone as all these come from your bank account so your details are stored and just as insecure as a debit card. Even paypal has your details ( if you use them ).

     Taken from Braintree Website

PayPal only have details of my credit card with the low-ish limit.

Utility bills are paid by direct debit from my bank account, not my debit card, and are covered by the DD guarantee scheme. It’s not quite the same thing.

As TW these are all paid by DD and covered by the guarantee scheme.

The info supplied to set up a DD is no more than is / was printed on a cheque. Sort Code, account number, bank name and your name. Normally when a card is used the number is required, plus the 3 digit security code on the back. Also why I would not let anyone out of my sight with my card.

    Opps posted wrong quoted post.☹️

Ecommerce1 can you clarify the above? The terms and conditions under definitions 2.1 (b) fuel make no reference to standard unleaded.

The other fuels are all mentioned, premium diesel, diesel and premium unleaded.

Rowena, was contacted by telephone today by a gentleman saying he was from CAMHC re Esso card who stated that my registration had failed due to the fact that i registered on a Thursday but system did not go fully live until Friday and as a result my details were not stored correctly. He asked me to re-register and offered £5 credit if i went through the process again, can you confirm this is true, but more importantly can you advise where my credit card details are being held just now? thank you

They don't ask for credit card details but they are asking for debit card details, see the T&Cs.

I have not used the card, but thought you needed a PIN to enable the transaction. If you loose the card it can’t be used without the PIN. Or am I wrong?

At least you can rely on your bank to cancel a card quickly. I wouldn’t want to chance that with an Esso card.frown

agreed but how many cars can you fill in say a 24 hrs period, e.g. 10x£60 = £600, they can raid your bank account for much more in a very short period of time, some consolation might be that in most circumstances of your debit card being misused, your bank would cover your lossess

what concerns me now is the lack of any response from the club re this issue, My guess is that a number of members have been affected, I have no way of knowing if the telephone call i took  this am was a scam, I know my bank account has not been raided, and i have taken no action re the call, but this is the 2nd time the club has tried to issue a fuel card of sorts but looks to have screwed up on both occasions, very worrying.

It is a NO from me, as too many outlets have already got my card details.

Bearing in mind that it appears to be easy to steal data from large corporate concerns, I have no wish to be put at further risk

I just wish to regain control and delete my info from all those who hold it. Where does one start?

quite easy, ask your bank to issue new card and to cease your old one can be achieved in 2-3 working days

    Hello Ruffs,

Sorry for the delay in reply. I needed to check this with a colleague.

We have had over 4,000 members sign up for this offer and due to a sudden surge in signups the DVLA verification system crashed temporarily meaning a small number of members have not been fully registered. These members will be contacted via phone in due course.  This is not a scam and all member details are secure (Braintree Payments is a Level 1 PCI DSS compliant service provider).

I hope this helps to reassure you and please let me know if you have any further questions.

I have received a phone call. I was informed that all my current details had been Deleted User and I was asked to apply again. A £5 credit would be made to recompense me for the inconvenience.

The explanation about why there was a problem was similar to the one that Rowena has given above.

How do we find out what the weekly fuel price is via the card?

well i received a text yesterday saying the price for normal diesel for this coming week would be £1.265 unleaded £1.178 which is 1 pence cheaper than my nearest Asda but nearly 10 pence cheaper than my nearest Shell, it would appear that each week the price will or could vary but a text will be sent advising of the following weeks price

Signed up to this as soon as I saw Rowena's post on 22nd Nov.  Since then nothing! No card, no PIN, no text (and no phone call to say my application failed)! What was the point?

If I am on a three week tour - we do three a year - I would give my debit card details to say five garages. These five garages, some may be independent but I am unlikely to know, will hold my debit card details. Is the risk of five garages holding my debit card data greater or lesser than if one highly regarded data processing company [Braintree] held my debit card details? Will Braintree be better at spotting, blocking and compensating me for fraudulently used cards than my bank? Will carrying wads of money to pay for fuel be safer?

On my mileage, I could save c£50 a year with Esso. My debit card has never been cloned in the commercial world so rather than take the unquantified risk with Esso, I'll stick with what I can quantify and shop around for cheap fuel if that is what matters to me. There is no convenient Esso station where I live.

My son has a 'all fuel card' and gets an SMS with fuel prices. He drives 2,000 a week so the 4p a litre he saves on average - £10 per week - is worth it.

Credit to CMC though for making this offer because it will suit many.

Hi been reading all the above post. I have just recieved my card and my first price for the week.  02/12/18  £1.265.  On Thursday on a drive the stns were at £1.339 to £1.359.  Though some have mentioned a price drop over the last day or so.  I always use main fuel stations rarley use supermarke fuel.

    IMPORTANT

For any of the folk who junked this idea beacuse of the security risk on an organisation holding the three digit number from the back of the card in addition to the usual numbers on the front, I have a simple solution.

My bank is issuing me with another account and card.  All the numbers are different from my current account, and I can transfer funds into it to cover fuel costs. So no risk should there be a large(ish!) ballance on the main account.
