I am only going to save if it brings it below the price of the supermarkets on a regular basis. Saving on the pump price of the Esso station, is no saving, as I don't normally fill up there.
So as I put earlier, am I able to monitor the Esso card price without signing up. The card might be no cost, no minimum use but there is little point in parting with personal information if I am not going to use it.

Esso is a highly reputable company, the Club has agreement between WEX (Esso) and PK Fuel Ltd (re-seller) The reason why this offer has taken over two years is that we need to know that members data, the Clubs reputation will not be damaged.

No, I'm afraid not. I would however like to invite feedback to those who opt in to join, keep us posted on this forum on savings and comparisons. Please remember this is all 4 main fuel types.
That way you can see savings and decide to join or otherwise.

Agreed Steve. our nearest garage is an Esso one, but as we fill our M/H infrequently and our EV even less at 8 litres a fill the guaranteed 1p won't be worth the effort. If we're away from home we search for the cheapest rates. Although the top rate is 5p it will fluctuate as much as overall fuel prices do. However there may be some who feel it is OK if there are no alternatives.

I have gone through the enrolement process and found a couple of things that disturb me that others might like to consider.
Firstly, there is a verification code sent to one's mobile. This came from "Pump-King". I think I recognise this name from another fuel offer I decided not to participate in.
The grammar of the pages in the enrolement suggest it is a translation from a foreign language.
Lastly, they want to hold ones bank account debit card number, expiry date and the number from the reverse. Once this information is hacked from their system it is all that the crooks need to remove whatever money is in your bank at the time.

As a custodian of member data and in compliance with GDPR, the Club has made sure that your data is safe. Your data is stored by a very reputable company, Braintree. Braintree is part of PAYPAL. In addition your address, email and mobile number will not be used for any third party reasons.

This week the discount I had from Esso on standard fuel, was 2.2 pence per liter cheaper than my local Asda garage.
Prices do vary from week to week, however they will always be competitive.

Thank you for your feedback SteveL, unfortunately you can only see the prices upon signing up. We have already had 100's of members sign up from 2pm yesterday.
The best way to check is to keep an eye on this forum. The card enables members to fill up at the largest network of fuel stations in the UK. It started with the Touring spirit in mind, however the same card can be used for any vehicle in your home.
Keep an eye on this forum and other Club communications, so you can make a more informed choice.

I have applied for this card, my nearest Esso garage is 2 miles away, hope card comes soon at the moment i am running on fumes, so will save a few bob.
yes there are pluses and minuses, giving card details is always a risky business, but in todays world if you want to do such things as on-line shopping your card details are out there anyway.
My nearest super market is Asda, again very close and they do some great deals on fuel, however, sometimes it can take for ever in a queue waiting to get onto the forecourt
Shell have the monopoly in my local area, the closest being 5 minutes away, but this garage can be 2 pence per litre more expensive than one 2 miles away, i guess because it is very local and they can get away with the additional charge.
I know Shell tour the local area getting the average for fuel costs from all the garages, and then do some maths to decide what they are going to charge at the various individual Shell garages, our most local garage adjusts prices very frequently sometimes once per week, so am guessing that the rate for this Esso card will be based on whatever charges are in force at a given time, hence they are going to be very fluid.
I will put it in with my Shell card and if i am passing an appropiate garage will use it, if i save £2 great, and another plus could be that if you drop this card at the garage and loose it, it would be less of a security risk then loosing your debit card. It took 5 mins to register.

we live where we live, we moved from Scotland to this area 10 years ago, it was called downsizing/forward planning. We live 10 minutes from the beach and within striking distance of lots of local amenities ready for when i get my mobility scooter

You have every right to be skeptical. It has taken two years to deliver this offer. Fuel is a complex issue indeed. This is how prices are set;
Every day fuel providers are sent new prices, the prices are known as PLATTS pricing. This is the price that fuel providers can buy fuel, each provider then puts a mark up on that price. The my Esso fuel card price is worked out at an agreed discount off the retail price, so discounts will always be consistent.
The complication is that depending on the location (supply and demand) prices will vary from pump to pump. This is also standard for supermarket fuels. An example being motorway service stations. Prices are always higher than the norm. Savings here can be significant. The least I saved was 12 pence of a liter of standard unleaded, the most was 38 pence per liter.
In answer to your question, prices will always be competitive at sustained discount level. The variable will be the location and the cost of fuel in the first place.

You are guaranteed to say even at that petrol station, in fact it is categorized as a motorway service station, so prices available at the pump will be higher, therefore savings greater.

because when paying you only use your Esso card and the total owed is taken directly from your bank, you do not need to produce your debit card, as stated previously, this in its self can be a plus because if you loose your card at the petrol station, someone would only have access to your fuel card and not your debit card, I once had this scare, fortunatley my card had dropped into the footwell and not out onto the forecourt

Not quite true, I might indeed save on the local price but it won't match the cheaper prices nearby. Unfortunately fuel costs are always very high at motorway services or in our case a busy re-fuelling stop on an A road.

Just had the latest Esso fuel prices by text ..... though I was about to join I failed to join due to giving a credit card number instead of a debit card number & just left it there. Esso's price was 130.02p and I've just filled up at Costco for 130.07p .... obviously only anygood if you're near a Costco & you're a member.

It looks as if Esso are going to be changing from Tesco to Nectar points in 2019 >>
However, this Esso card still isn't going to be useful for me. Savings are not great, and I use a cash back credit card for all my fuel purchases as my debit card current account balance can be less than what it costs to fill the van...

I've just checked with my colleague with regards to the debit card and have been advised that My Esso Card requires debit card details as part of the registration process in order to issue your My Esso Card. Once you have your My Esso Card you can pay for fuel using this card and the balance will be automatically taken from the debit card you used to register.

Perhaps it's just me, but I don't like using a debit card linked to my current account online. More so, if as in this case the details are being stored. When they used to charge extra for using a credit card, I happily paid it rather than use my debit card, even with government websites.
I am therefore most definitely out.
