Club rules outdated

OK, apart from not answering my and M's post, then what types of leisure units are you talking about?
0 -
Every unit you can think of simple, open to all, go to the nec in oct, if it is there should be allowed membership, backpackers, cyclist touring around, or even a van and tent, lots of LV user's erect a tent extra room etc, but tents are not allowed it seems, huge drive away awnings, when they are not there it is a tent, the only problem would be the influx of new blood, young active and mobile, the club may need to obtain more sites but with the increased membership the money would be rolling in so not a problem, plus the fact their axle weight is so low would not need so many hard standings or service points, just trying to think outside the box.👍😜

TW you missed my point. It shouldn't matter because it should not be an issue that arises. I use many varied types of site. I want a 10m by 10m pitch so I can get unit, awning, and vehicle on it. I want it spaced so I have personal space. Modern commercial sites are thinking about this and providing services that improve on the old way of lines of vans lined up in regimented order spaced to the safe minimum. They space the pitches so that the minimum distances will never be compromised.
Leisure vehicles are becoming more self contained, even though I promised I would not go for a tarty van I am there now and I like comfort and space. I do not want to carry water, I don't often use the site facilities, I don't wheel grey waste and yes I have terrestrial and satellite TV with wifi and a computer.
If sites want to pac-em-in then trust me they will not do good business.
Look at the profile of van sales, the premium ranges regularly sell out and are the major cash generators for the manufacturers. Motorhomes costing in excess of £50k are now the norm, people want and expect comfort and luxury.
The club is locked into their perception of a site and this tends to be from their own preferences from years ago. This suits many members who enjoy this type of site and that's good but I think they are missing the point for future opportunities and indeed survival.

I see what you’re getting at, Phish.
We are where we are and I can’t see such a change bring feasible other than on new and additional sites. Larger pitches inevitably mean fewer of them per hectare and we're constantly hearing of people unable to get a pitch now.

well I have great news for you they are all allowed on club sites already. Been on a few sites recently this year where all those including tents were on a club site.
And the club has a quite a healthy money situation.

As Feynman would say : It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with experiment, it's wrong.
The point is that the club is doing good business look at the profit made, how many tens of thousands (if not hundreds I don't have the figures to hand), new members there have been this year? sites fully booked up, membership at an all time high, new opportunities are being put in (camping pods, airstreams), more SP and HS being made. What more evidence do you need?

Rules are always out of date.

A bit of an overstatement CS. The Club's profitablity is not spectacular and its growth is flat. The C&CC is doing far better.

I;m away from home atm but I seem to recall 80000 or even bigger members since the rebrand, I would not call that hardly flat can you? act, and and record income and profits, however perhaps you could post some figures to support your points as a simple source is really not enough?

Go to Broadway site with your tent, see how you go on,you will have to it ignore the no tents sign. Oh by the way when you go use a car or walk and I bet they will not let you pitch, this "Club" is in time warp. If they serious about lowering the age range they must attract the impoverished young not the well off they have enough of them.

This Club isn't the one to join if you are a regular tent user. Not all Sites accept tents, and those that do invariable Site the tent area at a point furthest from toilet blocks, not ideal for those without a loo! Having said that, we have camped on a number of Club Sites, mainly Racecourse AF ones, very enjoyable. But you do need a good bladder!

However we all thought that the rigid rules for lining up the caravans to the peg is outdated,
This is the only rule I would like to see changed. Why not do away with the peg and put a marker in each of the four pitch corners. Allow pitching anyway the arrival prefers but everything brought to site has to be within the rectangle/square that these corners form. Simples and it should not require any further space. I seem to remember we have had this point made before?

PD, I don’t see how that would maintain spacing as one unit could pitch at the right side of his pitch, or square, and his neighbour at the left edge. It would need 6m between pitches/squares to ensure the fire gap was maintained.
0 -
I can’t answer that, PD. I guess we just have to accept it for what it is.
Having recently been on a site with very tight spacing of around 2m between vans, I’m appreciative of having 6m.
There are 3 empty pitches between our van and the next. Note, too, the distance to the empty pitch beside us at the bottom right of the pic. Imagine them full.😨

yes but, and really you know this quite well PD as the reasons for the pegs has been discussed many times before, that means the 6m spacing between adjacent walls of a LV may not be maintained, or the 3m spacing between car and awning (or car to car, awning to awning) cannot be assured. In your model there would have to be a 6m gap between each pitch if you are allowed to pitch anywhere within it? That would mean less pitches on a site.
Unless you are talking about scraping the fire safety aspect of the spacing? For those that are not bothered about being safe, and remember there has been a fire on a site which was contained by the sspacing, then other sites exist?

The 3m gap and 6m gaps have been devised by the Fire services as being 'safe' in the event of a fire, I assume after they gave it some research and thought on the fire loading of each part of a unit

I have to admit, I don't really understand this one either....I would have thought you'd need more space between a car full of petrol and an awning than between two vans.....
also, can't the two adjacent fronts of vans be only 3m? is it only the 'facing' element that needs to be 6m?
TW, I'm surprised you took your life in your hands by visiting such a place...

"TW, I'm surprised you took your life in your hands by visiting such a place..."
Needless to say it wasn’t a club site, nor was it in the UK.

Phising, you state "If sites want to pac-em-in then trust me they will not do good business" Then you haven't seen all the sites that we passed today at Brean. There's hardly room to place a cigarette paper between the caravans but the sites were full. Certainly not the type of site that I and I would think many CC members would want to stop on.

Ah, the luck of the Irish?
