A pub we frequent on a pleasant circular walk from the Cirencester site has always been dog friendly. However, yesterday we noted they now have a doggy specific menu. Apparently they sell quite a few of the sirloins and they don't normally last long. 😂

They are out there, charlie, all you have to do is search for them! The easiest way is to look through the Site Directory for those that show a dog with a line through it in the sites' symbols.

There is no such thing as a bad dog. . I do wonder why many CMC customers become so " animated "  when dogs are discussed on the forum.  Dogs are wonderful creatures capable of life long loyalty and companionship.

Thirsk Racecourse is a great site for dogs to take their carers as Thirsk in general is really dog freindly (apart from the Weatherspoons).

In the town centre there is a really great doggie cafe with a dog theme and treats for them and the Golden Fleece pub is fantastic. Great food and drink and really dog freindly staff. Pets are allowed anywhere apart from the restaurant but the same quality food is served in the bar and lounge areas so no problems there 😎🐶

Our favourite site with Maisy our border collie is Borrowdale, the walking straight from the gates is great either straight onto the fells or walking on the path around the lake, she is a nervous dog and hates road and traffic so its perfect for all of us,she loves swimming in the lake to so after a good walk and then a swim she settles down in the evening and sleeps until we get up about 7am.Keswick is very dog friendly and most eateries will allow them inside so in cold weather you don't have to freeze outside eating lunch. If anyone can suggest a similar site I would appreciate it.

    The new 2m lead/tether rule:

I have seen little evidence to show wardens embracing this rule. Personally as long as a dog tether confines it too its pitch that seems OK to me. I do feel that walking through the site dogs should be on a short lead. On the last site at St Davids dogs were being walked on leads significantly in excess of 2m (which I personally feel is longer than desirable walking though site).  On the present site, at Gowerton, the warden was fussing a dog whilst sorting out an EHU problem. The dog was pegged just beyond the edge of the pitch hard stand on the narrow grass separation strip using about a 12 foot tether. I have seen wardens on other sites ignoring this.

I have no personal concerns as long as it does not affect me but wonder how well this rule will be accepted by both staff and members and whether it will be enforced.

The wardens do not seem to act on the evidence of their own eyes from the little that I have seen and, not surprisingly, like a couple this morning where the lady had extending leads ranging from 3 to 5 metres on the dogs under her 'control', many of the dog owners have not shown to have paid attention.

The one dog owner that did amuse me was the lady with her lovely dog pegged just off the hardstand mid way along the length of the caravan . The dog was on a 12 foot leash and she repeatedly told the dog off when it wandered onto the asjacent pitch or onto the site roadway

I am unsure exactly what prompted CC to bring in the new, and I can see merit in it, rule but it seems a waste of time if there is no will to enforce it.

Staying Exmoor House Dulverton, very wet weekend. Town is very dog friendly with almost all shops and restaurants/pubs welcoming dogs and their owners, shame some of the car parks have 'No Campervans' posted up, but most are too small for larger motorhomes anyway.

A lot of Commercial sites already do so, some £2 a night, I avoid them like the plague, not on cost, but on priciple. Unless of course they provide heated dog swimming pool and a dog only play field.

I still use my '3 arms length' dog tether rope, about 3 yards, and was unaware of any rule change, when did this happen ? And why ?

It has always been 3 metres or yards for the last 20 years.

Mind you, a loss of a couple of feet wont worry my 10 years old, she is an 'inside dog' and hates being tethered outside.

Storm in a very narrow minded teacup.   Now enforcement of the 5mph limit is another matter.

    https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/uk-holidays/uk-sites/club-sites/club-site-rules/

Rule 11a, Ray. It was brought it earlier this season and I’m pretty sure it is in the Dogs on Site leaflet.

Why? - I guess because some irresponsible people have been letting their dogs wander where they shouldn’t and do what they shouldn’t on long or extending leads. There will always be a few who spoil it for the rest.

The only 'problem' with dogs pooing Ray are from a few owners who, instead of walking dogs off site in a morning either let them outside at 6am, or walk them slowly for a 100 yards on site giving them chance to perform and then 100yds back to the outfit. It is not something that affects me however.

A poll a couple of years back in the Caravan Club showed that roughly 75% of members take their pets, mainly dogs and quite a few 2 or more, on holiday with them in their Caravans and Motorhomes.

Goodness me, 75% , that is quite a high percentage, but I am not surprised. I know it is one of the reasons why we try and avoid both club's sites particularly in the summer months. Likewise any pub or eatery saying it is "dog friendly" is never going to be our first choice. But hey ho, such is life, and we are all free to choose where we spend our hard earned depending on our individual preferences.

The whole leisure industry from holiday touring parks to eateries, in the uk are starting to wake up to the ammount of revenue that is being lost by not accepting dogs in their premises , and if even not with our dog we will try to avoid those that ban dogs ,that is one of the few things that "over there"is in advance where dog friendly signs are not needed as most are

That's just fine for those that like dogs, and for those that don't it's just tough luck I suppose.. As I said, hey ho such is life, as long as those establishments who choose to welcome dogs in order to increase their revenue are equally aware of how much they may loose by that very same approach. smile

So, back to the purpose of this thread,

I was extremely lucky to have snapped this picture on my phone recently of my younger Border Collie having fun at the sea side when we stayed at Fairlight wood club site and visited the beach at Pett Level.
