An appeal to Safefill users - and others!

I hope you're not arguing there, Freddy!
Sometimes you have to look below the surface of these things but I'm sure Merve is more than capable of fighting his corner if he feels the need.

I too think you're not the only one but that doesn't alter the fact that he's not getting a hard time.
If this Safefill is so great what has Merve got to fear? A good product will stand on it's own merits. But I still don't understand why this one product only is being pushed by him? Would it not serve the needs of LV owners better to information on all such services?
Also I'm sure that fuel stations don't sell LPG gas just the sake of LV owners but rather cars? So why hasn't this caught on more and so few outlets? Are LPG cars rising or falling in demand?

Sadly there are one or two who can’t resist making personal comments in a less than friendly way about others. Those of us who try to remonstrate with the aggressor, or defend the person being insulted, naturally have our posts taken down along with the original offensive post.
Now you’ve caused Merve's thread to go way off topic.🤭😯

I’ ve never met you Freddy, but I fear we both have similarly low levels of intelligence. Unlike someone like Cornersteady for example, who a mere 24 hours ago was professing he didn’t know what Safefill was, this was in one of the Deleted User posts. Now, only one day latter he seems to be quite the expert, on not only Safefill but the alternatives as well. I just wish I could acquire knowledge that quickly, but I know my limitations.
Me I use Safefill not as a protest against Calor but because it saves me money. Other people the calculation will be different
PS Don’t think that this forum, is full of unfriendly posters. Just think of it as a form as therapeutic care in the community, for those less fortunate then ourselves.

If a petrol station has an LPG pump, it needs to provide nothing else for a Safefill, or other refillable, owner to fill up. Nozzles are generally standard in a country, the cylinders are designed to be used with the standard UK nozzle, you just attach it and away you go. Only takes a few minutes.
The nozzles do differ in other countries so if you go abroad you need to carry a selection of adapters, all readily available.
In our case, we have a fixed system with 2 cylinders, we have a filling point fitted in the side of the gas locker, same type of thing that MHs have. We just attach the pump nozzle to this to fill up. The cylinders are strapped in the gas locker, just like Calor cylinders.
There is plenty of info regarding refillable LPG cylinders available on the Internet.
As CY said a few pages back, saving money on gas is not the only advantage. For those of us who want to have gas easily available when touring abroad, a refillable is the way to go.

So now is the perfect opportunity for you to explain the comparative features and benefits of all the alternative systems. The stage is yours .
PS I have no particular axe to grind, I happen to own a Safefill bottle mark 1 but I am more interested in the contents than the container

Thanks Boff. Your comments are totally accurate. Why indeed are they on here? They have no interest other than causing concerns that have been put to bed by greater men than them! I asked politely for them to stay off the thread but I guess it was just too much for them. They can’t cause trouble if they are not on it!!

indeed I didn't but was educated by the answers to my questions including the ones that told me of other similar products. I really don't see mon colonel what I have posted to suggest I'm an expert, perhaps you have posted too swiftly?
Are you suggesting I shouldn't be posting?

Boff was agreeing with me, Merve.
I'm not sure who you mean by 'them'. It’s not the nicest of terms.

Of course Gaslow offer direct fill cylinders. I know they used to give dire warning about direct filling however obviously times change. Personally if I was looking at a fixed system I would look at Gasit, because they are generally cheaper for the same thing. As far as I know my Bil and Sil are happy with their Alugas system in their MH.

The point Boff as I’m sure you are aware is that it’s Safefill and no other cylinders that have been accepted by Morrisons. That’s the point. I do not favour or promote Safefill for the sake or at the expense of other brands it’s just that if I were to suddenly give up my Safefills and go to another brand- suddenly, I have no Morrisons to fill at because they don’t recognise any other type. There are many other outlets who won’t fill anything but Safefills- my local fil point for instance.I own a Safefill. I know that Safefill outnumbers other similar cylinders. In other words, Safefill is by far the most popular so why would I waste my time trying to get garages to accept an unknown and untried type when Safefill are the market leaders and have jumped through all the hoops?? Can we please get back to emailing these Garage Groups so others can benefit. That is my only quest and if ‘other makes’ ride on the back of Safefill then good for them. I am not asking, as has been stupidly suggested that I want garages to install LPG pumps- I just want existing sites to be able to gain LPG business and for refillables to have a fill point. Why is it so hard for certain people to understand that? Perhaps they just don’t want to. Thanks to everyone who has helped with this campaign so far. Your efforts are much appreciated. To the detractors, you’ll just have to get on with it!

Sorry Merve but , nothing I like more than upsetting both sides of an argument, if Safefill is accepted by Morrison’s then I can see no logical reason why any other system with an OPD shouldn’t also be safe and aceptable.
Again to declare an interest I am a Safefil owner and have a Morrison’s with LPG less than 1 mile from where I live so I want to be able to refill at Morrison’s. For reference I have seen the tanker refilling the lpg at Morrison’s. It is a Calor tanker.

Boff, you won’t upset me and thanks for your input. I agree that there is no reason for other makes not to be filled BUT the manufactures of these other types will have to prove to Morrisons and others that their cylinders are equal to Safefill in every respect. If they do- great- even more reason then for this thread to be a success. Let’s make it so. 🤣🤣

I've never seen so much heat with so little light generated since the infamous Sunday Departures thread. Morrisons are now accepting the filling of Safefills across their network. Merve is encouraging Safefill users to lobby other chains to widen the availability of filling points. Why should non-users care? It's no skin of their nose either way.

Could I just add my point of view here....
As an Autosleeper owner, we have a Gas-it under-slung tank on our van.. As far as I know most if not all AS vans have had this system fitted for several years, there is no conventional gas bottle option as an alternative.
We usually fill locally, with LPG auto-gas, from the one local garage(BP) who sell it. Our local Morrisons don't have LPG but I have used Morrisons in the past elsewhere, and BP garages too whilst away. I have never been refused if they had stock.
I usually use www.filllpg.co.uk to find LPG retailers if away from home, but prefer to use my local dealer in the hope that it will help to continue the availability of LPG locally.
Although LPG auto-gas is available nationally, retailers are quite rare compared to other vehicle fuels. I have also visited sites to buy gas where I have been unable to get my filler near the auto gas pump as it has been on the "wrong side" at a busy service station, or have found the location to have stopped gas altogether, or once completely closed down and derelict.
As a result, you become cautious, perhaps paranoid, if your gas levels drop below half full, even though that would maybe last 2 weeks, and the best plan, I find, is to top the tank up asap at half full.
Any attempt to increase the number of autogas LPG retailers willing and able to sell it for on board leisure use rather than for propulsion, should in my opinion be encouraged.

PS.. I would also like to add that those who have either sold bought or indeed used illegal and dangerous adaptors to refill rented propane bottles have done nothing but harm to those of us who use perfectly legal and safe refillable systems whatever the make may be.

And that is what this thread is all about!! but as I suspected has been hijacked by a few who just want to ‘have a go’. They have nothing to contribute, are not interested in refillables and are not interested in helping anyone who would like to get more fill points! It’s a totally negative & destructive approach to a problem that many face. Many in the past have said that they would buy a refillable- I’ll use the term refillables- but wouldn’t do so because of difficulties with finding a fill point. Is it really that difficult for some to understand that others may want or even need this?
Anyway, on a more positive note, I have received an email back from Mr Richard Cox, the M.D. of The KAY Group Ltd (Euro Garages) thanking me for my communication and saying that he is going to look at this seriously by contacting those who know more about it than he in a nutshell. So at least we are bringing the whole subject of cylinders into the fresh air so that policies can be looked at again and hopefully revised in light of the new technologies. Thanks everyone.

Absolutely Justus! Bang on. The Safefill (or other equally good cylinder) is about overt filling and not covert filling. With an effort, we can get these criminals, because that’s what they are, off our forecourts for good as there is now no need to covertly fill a Steel cylinder with some dodgy valve. The new generation of lightweight self fill cylinders has changed the landscape. We, as a group can change minds and bring education & help, not only ourselves, but increase the business of Garage groups. Please help support your own hobby by lobbing these groups.

Thanks for that, Justus. We have the same system and, being new to it, I’ve been trying to understand how this fits into the grand scheme of things in terms of refillables because that’s all it is really, a permanently fitted refillable. You’ve explained a lot now that we’ve been able to drag ourselves away from talking about one particular make.
Perhaps folk won’t be so quick to assume the worst about others of us as there are different facets to the picture.

Why don’t you just come out and call me a liar DD? Why don’t you stop speaking tosh and have the courage to ring Safefill. I have never said that the name ‘Safefill’ is mentioned in the Red Guide! That would be ridiculous- it’s you that’s giving out fake news. If it wasn’t true that the Red Guide had been ammended to include refillables, I think Safefill would have been in court by now! But I can tell you this without any fear of reprisal- IT WAS SAFEFILL THAT MOVED THE GOAL POSTS AND MADE THIS POSSIBLE FOR REFILLABLES! As far as sht 26 is concerned, UKLPG have not issued the ammended St 26. I wonder why when it is made up of staff and execs from Calor and Flo?? mmmm difficult one that. Now, let’s please try to get more fill points for the members of CAMC and others!
