Pleasant visit today to the RHS show at Chatsworth. Very well organised, ( I think last year they had problems) could not really fault anything. Perhaps they could have done with a few more show gardens, but that was about it. Started dull, when we arrived at 8:30, but brightened up for lunch time. Bought a few plants and some seeds, plus a Bakewell tart and some cheese. The Snowdonia Cheese company was in evidence, but we favoured another that was selling a cheddar matured at Wookey Hole caves. It was extremely moreish. Also learned from the bee keepers stand that a honeybee worker will only make 1/12 of a tea spoon of honey in a lifetime.

Saw a few turtle doves strutting around as we walked the St Malo ramparts today. Perhaps it's something to do with Brexit.

I'd like to thank DEBSC as today after we had been into Bideford, we took your advice and went to Bucks Mills, walked down the hill to the beach stopping to have a look through the windows of the "Cabin" where it was like looking back in time.
We spent a while climbing over the rocks, bit like big kids
It was a lovely spot and we had it all to ourselves too. On the way back we ventured down some more Devon lanes to a farm shop for a few supplies. We also had our first rain of the holiday tonight.

You sound as though you are having a really wonderful holiday Helen. It is an area of the country we visited so often when our children were young and really love. I can thoroughly recommend the walk to Heddons Mouth from Hunters Inn. It is a lovely walk and Heddons Mouth beach is wonderful. You get the feeling that it is timeless and has been the same for centuries.

What a difference a day makes, today we woke to blue skies and hot sunshine. Really beautiful day so we didn't waste it and spent the day out cycling. Its been 4 years since we were last here, so it was nice finding our way around again, bit saddle sore now though.
Tomorrow is supposed to be good to so will go to the North of the island.
Dread to think what my garden will be like after 7 weeks away, not sure if my 3 new Rhododendrons will have survived. Didn't think they would be getting as much good dry weather as they have had so they will probably have died

You as welcome H&T, glad that you enjoyed it, it is a quiet spot that locals know. Not quite as nice as Clovelly but quieter and more importantly free! Not meaning to be a nuisance 'tour guide' but had another thought after my last post - it's rose time so worth taking a trip to RHS Rosemoor at Torrington, just lovely at this time of year. Takes a while to walk all around and they have a nice restaurant. But no dogs, not sure if you have one.

After the hectic couple of days getting the garden back to some form of "tidy" after our last month away,
This morning had the slight "damage" repaired, that was on our latest car when picked up from the dealer,it was just a small dent and "cracked" paintwork,it was carried out at our house by a firm called Revive, what an eye opener with what goes into the repair,not only in pulling the dent out, but making good the paintwork,which is these days water based and it is only the top coat of sealant that stops it being washed off in use,,and to match the white paintwork,a combination of colours of white, black blue and yellow is weighed and then mixed before being sprayed on and then "baked " with infra red heaters,,i am glad the dealers is paying

We have been working on the caravan all week checking everything is in working order and clean,it's been over a year since we have been away so have opted to go around the corner to Northbrook cc site for a few days . I wonder if we will bump into anyone who posts on here .? Lol 😊😊

We weren't that keen on Ile D'Oleron either Tammygirl. Much preferred the Ile de Re. Have you been to The Aquarium in La Rochelle? It is worth a visit.

The National Trust have just bought the Hunters Inn, Milliehull. They own all the land around and I think the plan is to open the back of the garden of the pub up, in order that walkers don't have to complete the last bit of the walk by using the road.

Short shower of rain yesterday evening, but the garden could do with a lot more. Cloudier today but still very warm.
Lunch out yesterday with DD was good, Callum slept through most of it. Afterwards we went for a walk in the park and had ice cream.
Today has been shopping, picking up pills, and making appointments with dentist for before we go away.

We decided last minute to come away in the caravan. We arrivwd on site at 6pm and quickly got set up. Unbeleivably the weather here in Scotland is still very warm thats been almost 3 full weeks now. Once we arrived and got set up we cooked pizza on the cadac which was lovely. Now we are just sitting out enjoying the sun with a cold drink or 3

We have been to both and I must say I had a greater affinity to Oleron as it seemed more of a working island. Nothing against Re.

Lovely photo brue. It brought back some happy memories. We used to walk down the right hand side, go across the stream at the bottom, sit on the beach for a while and watch the sea and then back along the left hand side. Always the same, it was a ritual

Had a busy day in the garden, doing last minute clear up and picked up a pile of cleared out weeds which contained a hidden bumble bee. Thought it was a nettle sting till I saw the sting sticking in the base of my finger. Just got it out in time, ouch,ouch, ouch! Some antihistamine has calmed it down. Haven't had a bee sting for years.
