We have occasionally been on farm CL's & CS's where no dogs were allowed and others where no children were allowed. When asked, the reply was that farm gates had been left open in the past by children and dogs had not been tethered upsetting their sheep. You can hardly blame farmers from protecting their primary business, the livestock.
Another option would be to close them to caravanners altogether.

I think there is a major difference between a club site (any club), open to anyone who pays the membership fee, and a private site (be that a large commercial concern or a small CL/CS site) where individual owners, or businesses, can judge for themselves who they wish to allow to use their site (s). In this country there is ample variety to suit everyone, surely. There is no need for the club to restrict choice to any of its members.

I'm from a family of ten, we have eight grandkids and we love 'em all, I know the meaning of family and the importance of it but there are times I wish to go away in my caravan on a quiet weekend without it being spoiled by selfish parents that allow their little darlin's to be unsupervised.
Happy caravanning.

Because the people who own / run the CL's have the option to choose who they allow & who they don't to use their site .
Be it children , dogs , single sex gender groups or god forbid retired silver haired members .👍

I welcome the option of adults only CL's & I wish the Club would do adult only areas in Club sites. Last year we went to Penrhos Club site in Anglesey & our evening sat out in the Sun was ruined by parents allowing their kids to run amok around the site.
I am not anti child, but I am against parents not having consideration for others & allowing their children to ruin the holidays of others.

Hi Dadof2
We have nearly 2300 CL sites on our network, each site is independently run by the CL owner. It is up to the CL owner to decide if they would like their sites to be adult only, family friendly, dogs allowed etc.
There are many reasons why a CL site wishes to be adult only. If a health and safety risk is present, such as the site being on a working farm or due to their being open water on the site, then the Club would have made the adult only option a condition for them to be a CL Site.
Out of the 2300 CL's sites on our network 378 of these are adult only.
The uniqueness and range of services that the CL network provides means that there is a CL site out there for everybody.
I hope this helps and you are able to find suitable CL sites for you and your family to enjoy.
Thanks
Maddie

So you still have 1922 CL's out of 2300 that are inclusive. Seems to me you have ample choice. So where's the problem with having 378 AO sites. I use AOs, I rally and sometimes use sites. And I may be a grey-haired old grump, but I have found in my 41 years of camping/caravanning, that kids will be kids, but modern parents don't know how to set boundaries and have a sense of entitlement that borders on the selfish, but you could say that could have come from their parents, oh yes, that's my generation, c'est la vie.

Definitely the case, ET, having spoken to the odd site owner who have had problems caused by unsupervised children

Yes, I suspect many make that decision because of potential issues specifically related to the site itself which are of a crucial consideration, even for the young who are 'supervised'! Thankfully the C&MHC appear to recognise that such sites are not suitable for the club's own network as they do not provide an inclusive opportunity for all members.

That's all very well, but we went to sites which others, I guess, would have suggested had absolutely nothing on site for children. Truth is that we were not really on site for what it offered our children but were there because of what the area offered us. Thankfully the club appear to acknowledge this in their approach to inclusiveness and enjoying and experiencing freedom (for the great outdoors that is not from children). Locality for us, like for many other members I suspect, far outweighed site facilities.

We have worked with vulnerable, abused or neglected children for the best part of our lives, we both love our job but when we go away we like to be able to chill out so we choose AO sites. ET can you tell me why you think you wouldn't like our mind set ?? I find your comment very judgemental and a tad offensive.

I like young people, I like families, I like teenagers, I like children, I like grandchildren (I have nine so far). I don't like crotchedly old people who grumble.

Crotchety
An adjective used to describe an old person. More specifically, someone who seems to hate life in their "golden years" and feels the need to take it out on others.
Seems a little extreme eurotraveller. I seriously doubt AO sites are full of folk who meet that description.

So we've been round in circles once again on this topic, it does occasionally crops up, but the status quo is still in place and will continue in my opinion. That is all Club sites are open to all members whilst CLs and ASs can choose, if they wish or need to, their target clientele. For me it matters not a jot whether the CLs/ASs are adult only or dog free but Club Sites remain correctly 'all inclusive' so to speak.

But Micky, the CMC sites are not at the moment available to all. People have different requirements.
Take the case of people who suffer from cynophobia ( a very common Phobia )----The CMC doesn't cater for them. All that would be required is to have a number of dog free sites within the network where those unfortunate people could enjoy the pleasures of caravanning just like the rest of us.
One size does not fit all, never has , never will.
There are also many who would welcome a few AO sites within the network. I see no reason why the CMC cannot run a trial to see how popular or otherwise this option would be. Just for say a couple of seasons, a few sites could be designated AO. If successful the experiment could be extended, if unsuccessful they could revert to what they are at the moment. The CMC have nothing to lose either way.

But we are discussing adult only sites, children and possibly dogs! Now if you want to discuss ensuring access to all disabilities, abilities, conditions, syndromes etc then the answer is you have a point, sites possible do not facilitate all needs but non at all are barred. On adult only sites children are 'barred' from staying! Your point may be centred on, in my opinion, making sites more accessible which is a different issue, very important mind but different! What's more, I reckon the club would do all it possibly could to support members specific 'special' needs on their sites wherever feasible and possible.

Unfortunately you have not quoted my full post which did indeed include the AO option. See previous page.
This is the whole post :- Quote
