Had to say goodbye to my lovely pointer two days ago, 13yrs 7mths, he developed ?spelling Larangyl paralysis...where the lungs can't open properly to breath, he was the most beautiful boy and an excellent working dog, I'm heart broken, he was so special. My other dog keeps looking for him which is also so upsetting.

I’m so sorry to hear that, OL. Many of us know how you feel and how hard it is to get used to that space in your life.

It’s been a very Quiet summer on the East Coast, the heat had affected all wildlife in this area. Today it came alive. Young un, Her Mum & me had a beaut walk in the cool(13c) air & fields. It was a full sun that rose into a blue cloudless sky. No stifling heat or high humidity today. Barely a breeze, heavy dew on the growing meadow, wellies having to be worn, the smell of turned fields that the plough had rent as it prepared for next year’s crop. The 3 of us had a spring in our step, what a glorious start to the day. We saw a Roe Deer doe at a distance with this year’s Kid trying to feed as She gently skipped away. I’d love it to be the heavily pregnant Doe I saw in Spring but the truth is I just don’t know. The Dogs were happy to walk just behind me nudging my legs as they walked. We sat on an old stump to just drink in the beauty & atmosphere of the early morning. This is the first time we’ve had this feeling for months as it’s just been too warm for close contact. My Dogs are happy, I’m happy, the Countryside is gorgeous in it’s returned normality. On the way back I caught a glimpse of a Roe Buck at a distance scooting off giving a light bark, the rut is nearly upon us. Time moves on. Have a great day.

Great to see another tale of the morning walk from you Rocky. Thanks for that.
That was a grand sighting of the deer and her young and I’m imagining you sat on the tree stump with your dogs just enjoying the peace and beauty of the morning. I bet one of you had a grin on your face😊

Thanks Tinny, I had the grin👍🏻, the Dogs had the ‘back to normal at last’ snoring😂. It’s been a slow Summer, I didn’t even go out in the Countryside some weeks, it was straight to the near coast for the lower temps. I know most folk love the hot Summers but me & the Dogs suffer☹️

I've thought about this statement for some considerable time. The statement that 'you either love or hate them' may need some consideration. I reckon now that the issue is really not a dichotomy as suggested. Don't get me wrong I'm a dog lover but there probably exists a very large and substantial group of people who are neither log lovers or dog haters, some may even be ambivalent towards them. They are just dog tolerant until dogs/dog owner actions impact upon thier lives. Surely it is up to us dog owners and dog lovers to ensure these folk remain on our 'side'. Surely by adopting the very best actions to uphold best practice as far as pet ownership is concerned we can all mostly live in harmony .

“you either love or hate them“. Try as I might, Micky, I’ve been unable to find that statement. Perhaps you can show me where I’m missing it. However, I can find “You either love Dogs or don't....” which is a very sentiment.

Whoops! Let’s try “...a very different sentiment”.

Whoops me too, that was it, yes, ' you either love dogs or you don't' was your exact wording. Sorry!
However, I was really talking about the use 'dog haters' (or similar negative wording) which has cropped up from time to time in some folks posts which kind of polarises us all.

Welcome to the thread Micky Boy👍🏻. If you’ve got something positive to share re Dogs, or just to reach out, go for it. There’s enough negativity about Dogs on CT I’m not going to engage with it on here. One thing I did actually write/say is-‘wrong posters give it a swerver’, you are close to that. It’s a beaut day, so you enjoy it👍🏻😊

Quiet, no dramatic colour but still a wonder to behold watching the sun rise as we walked across the stubble of a harvested & bailed crop, we saw rabbits & hares taking advantage of the vast wheat free area to scoot about in the distance. I wore my shirt fleece over my T as the temp was 9c, cool, almost crisp but far better to walk in, both Young un & Her Mum ran big circles over the stubble. I wondered at the fact they never seem to hurt themselves on the short stubble stalks, I checked, nope they don’t. We headed due East down the tramlines of the field with the sun creeping over a small wood to my left, the sun’s rays moving atwixt the gaps in the tree canopy giving it added beauty. After the stifling heat it’s a pleasure to get these late Summer temps. I love our climate, never too hot/cold/wet or dry for too long a period. Other than the rabbits, hares & wood pigeon(with His mixed up seasons) wooing a totally disinterested Lady friend, it was wildlife-less. Not a problem, being a part of the ever changing seasons on a beautiful day with the Dogs bounding out in the cool & vast expanse for a playground is reward enough. Young un & Her Mum will have earned their porridge this morning. Enjoy your day.

Enjoy yours too, Rocky. You got off to a good start and the dogs will be appreciating the cooler temp for sure.

You ain’t wrong there mucker, they were in Doggy heaven with all that space, they’re usually heads down & walk in amongst crops but not today😂😂😂

Sounds blissful Rocky. I too love this country's climate for the same reasons.
On the pigeon comment my assumption of them is wooing is never out of season for a pigeon 😉 sort of martini time, any time any place anywhere, gee that probably dates me😉😉. Kissing out of season if the gorse isn't flowering type of thing. Am I wrong?

Sorry B2, the last paragraph just went ‘whoosh’ right over my head😂😂😂. The pigeon thing is like rabbits & mice I think. Mother Nature put them at the bottom of the food chain then gave them a ‘need to breed’ attitude to feed the rest of the animal kingdom👍🏻😊. It was blissful B2 it always is. I’m a happy guy there’s no doubt about that.

A very merry Christmas to all dog owners and their four legged faithful companions. Hope you have great walks and expeditions next year
I'll even extend the seasons greetings to non dog lovers, (don't like the term "Dog Haters") just to show that we can rise above such criticism
May you all cross many fields and streams together
From bt, Mrs bt and of course ALFIE

Although sadly no longer a dog owner, I’d like to say thanks, Brian, and wish the same to you and yours, and especially to Alfie.

Just called in to wish you all a merry Christmas and echo the message from BT.

Tess also sends her best wishes to you all.
