Those are fantastic pics BM.
Good luck with recovering the Deleted User ones.

Thanks NAS
I rarely look at my pics during the taking, only to check the occasional exposure, I guess I'm still stuck in my film days when the anticipation of getting back to the darkroom was part of the enjoyment. So it is like getting a second bite of the sightings, in this case I got a third go at it with the rescue, which worked thanks.
Many varieties arrived during our trip including the Hobbies which came out of the recovery files. Great to witness these hunting above the reeds for insects.

What a beautiful looking bird and well captured too.

Great photos Bluemalaga - especially like the Swallow & Hobby. You certainly have an eye for a good shot. Good that you got your Deleted User problem sorted. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the lovely photos BlueM, we must get over to Ham Wall ourselves as we're not too far away.
Interesting spot by OH, Red Kites near Sherborne in Dorset. We have spotted them moving out this way, we're on the Dorset/Somerset border. Previous spots along the A303 corridor.

Thanks Brue
May I suggest that you pick a dry day, sunny if possible as the insects tend to stay at home when damp and therefore the birds seem scarce. As soon as the clouds lift, the hobbies are very active. The Tor hide offers Hobby, Sand Martin, Swallow, Bittern, Great White Egret, Heron nesting with large chick plus the usual duck brigade. There was also an Arctic Tern spotted among the gulls.
The gorgeous little Mealy Redpoll is seen around the disabled car park area at the entrance to thr Tor hide walkway.
Enjoy.

Stopping at our first site on the NL/Germany border for 5 nights. Took a stroll from site yesterday to a nearby flooded pool area. The rest of the area is farmland but there is a large forest reserve that is the German border.
Delighted to see a Siberian Stonechat (as well as a European one nearby), a Crane and 2 Hawfinches plus many welcome new arrivals, including Golden Oriole, loads of Lesser Whitethroats and a few Tree Pipits.
Today was spent at the Meinweg reserve, a huge area like Dunwich Heath or Arne. Honey Buzzard flew over us and Pied Flycatchers are here as well as Wood Warblers and Woodlarks.
Not been to this area before but have 2 more days to explore.

If we are in the area I'll let you know and we can have a walk around the Moos. Suspect that we are due to move down that way around the 25th.so will probably just miss you. Glad you can get away though.
Quieter day today as we were cycling but ended up at a nature reserve in Germany (no reception or warden). Great White Egret and 2 Lesser Spotted W'peckers were the highlights.
Went looking for the Siberian Stonechat last night but he wasn't on view but we did see a Red Backed Shrike and a Goshawk so the stroll from site was worth it.

If anyone is interested, the Bath Perigrine web cam is showing the nest at present with both parents absent. Four fluffy white chicks waiting for food.

One parent returned with supper and fed tree of the four chicks that demanded food, but the runt got none. Parent then flew off with the remains and returned to snuggle down with the chicks.

Last day here and back on the bikes so only intermittent birding. We did spend about 5 minutes watching a reeling Grasshopper Warbler.
Tonight on our stroll from sits we saw a Fieldfare in all his breeding plummage and couldn't find the Little Owl that seems to be on the other side of the campsite hedge by our caravan. We can hear him but can't find him!

I'm sure I heard our first Cuckoo today by Loch Lomond, but the call was only for a short while and not repeated. Then I thought that I spotted a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, but reading up on them they're not supposed to be present in Scotland, so I'm not sure now.

- Bumped into a fellow member on season shakedown to Slimbridge today.
interesting spot was a crane nesting within 30metres of the Rushy hide and two mediteraenian gull nests on south lake. This is a first for slimbridge. Plenty of chicks around including the less than attractive Morehen chicks, but so endearing.

Looks like someone will have to update the bird register then. I suppose I could contact RSPB Scotland and ask them what the situation is.

I was just setting out with Flyte after we had arrived at the Clachan site and was fortunate enough to see a Red Squirrel.
There's a bird feeder in front of our van and as well as the usual suspects there were 3 or 4 Siskins feeding, and there's been a woodpecker hammering away most of the evening, although I've not spotted it yet.

Definitely heard a Cuckoo this morning, and saw the GSW on the bird feeder when we came back from our walk this afternoon.

Visited Bwlch Nant yr Arian near Aberystwyth to see the Red Kites feeding. What a beautiful sight. Took some photos, but it's not the same as experiencing it.
Will have to edit and crop more pictures before I can add more, so just 2 for now.

Went to Carlton marshes to see the American but no luck. Heard 2 Cuckoos and took a photo of this one:

Down in Germany after a couple of days travelling. Cycled from site along the towpath of the Danube. There are a couple of ox-bow areas that are good for birds etc. We were lucky, seeing Red Backed Shrike, 4 Wood Sandpipers, Terns, a Nightingale, saw a Cuckoo, Garganey and there is a mad Icterine Warbler behind our pitch (sounds like Sweep on speed!)
Oh, and also saw our first Sedgies and a Male Hen Harrier when on route yesterday.
Lots of Swallowtail butterflies today.

I've sent an e-mail to the RSPB and anticipate a reply in a couple of days. Will let you know what they say when I can.

Went to one of our favourite German reserves today. No-one else there at all! We were watching a female Wryneck on a bare branch when she heard a male calling behind her, so she swivelled her head a full 90°. Brilliant to see. Saw a male later on as well. Plus GS and LS Woodpeckers, Garden Warblers, Golden Oriole, Penduline Tit and a smashing Hobby who had plenty of Dragon and Damselflies to choose from.
The meadow leading into the reserve was awash with Buttercups, Ragged Robin and startling Pinks. A beautiful sight.
We abandoned the watching just after lunch as it became too hot, so will have to go back later this week.
