Venice to Rotterdam - 4 nts - recommendations pls

Hi

We are travelling back from Venice to Rotterdam in August and ideally want to do 2 x 2 night stops.

On the way down we are stopping at Ruddesheim am Rhien and Nattersee. We could do this on the way back, but thought we may want to do a different route (also it was 4 nights minimum at Nattersee).

The campsites don't need to be all singing all dancing but near something interesting to do whilst we are there.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Thanks

I don't know the route you would like to take or how far you want to drive in a day, but Camping Hopfensee to visit Neuschwanstein Castle and Camping de Strasbourg to visit that lovely city might both be possible stopovers. But it seems a bit of a rush.

A couple of sites that are just a little further on from Innsbruck which might suite. http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/camping_eichenwald.htm at Stams where the famous Monastery is or perhaps http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/campingpark__imstwest.html which is a lovely small site with easy access to shopping and transport.  One en route stop between there ar Rotterdam you could think about this campsite http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/Camping_Schinderhannes.htm There is not a lot in the immediate area of the campsite but the Rhine is a reasonably short car trip away at Sankt Goar.

Just a thought but have you booked Nattersee? We were there last June (having booked through the Club) on the way back from Venice and the site was turning campers away as it was full on the day we arrived - and it was full!

I’d second Imst West for one night at least. Try hotel Neuner for an evening meal, highly recommended. There are 2 caravan sites at Rothenburg on de Tauber, a beautiful town on the Romantik Strasse but it you’re going in early August it’s advisable to book ahead. At the end of August you should be fine.

There are several sites around Fussen (which is realistic from Venice?) Google will help.

Neuschwanstein is well worth it IMHO although there can be long queues if you want to go round the castle and Hopfensee would be our choice for this year (Camping Brunnen was also fine)

A little distance away is Camping Reutte which we have considered for Higlhine 179:

If you like that sort of thing.

Luxembourg is 319 miles from Fussen but, again is a worthy stop and cheap diesel (last time we were there)

Another vote for Camping Hopfensee as your first stop. WE drove the same route last year and covered the 300 mile journey within 8 hours, including breaks. It's a very beautiful and scenic route

My second stop would be somewhere near Bitburg and Prumtal- Camping at Oberweis. It's approx 340 miles and mainly all motorway. Plenty to do in the area and only 20 minutes from Luxembourg and cheap diesel, leaving you just a couple of hundred miles to the port.

    Bon Voyage!

Thanks so much everyone for the advice.  We'll look at these different sites and book!
