CAMC sites now getting too pricey

DD I'm not the one who dreamt up moving a MH without a appropriate tow bar and hitch and/or rope, you did
JK: although we can only move outfits with the rear tow hitch now as the front ones weren't plated. We can't attempt a motorhome move as they can't be physically attached.
DD: strange, my A Class has a towing eye at the front (in common with all Peugeot and Fiat trucks) and provision attaching a rope at the back

Um, anyone else spot a slight flaw in an argument which, in one breath says the club is guilty of "operating a policy of discrimination" and in the next says the club should "allocate pitches to Motorhomes even to the disadvantage of caravans"?
Well done, K, it certainly made me chuckle - and, of course, I'm sure you held that view even when you were a club member and a caravanner!

shame I missed you, we could have had a right old chat

clutching at straws there, talking about matches and fire and perhaps trying to distance yourself from your original post DD, sorry
Btw, you're being disingenuous and wrong with your figures there - my government statistics shows 100,000 car fires per year but over half of all car fires are deliberate, so that leaves 50,000 out of over 28,000,000 cars. That's a probability of about 0.17% or your car catching fire. Yes I know I'm using relative frequencies to calculate probabilities but that's Ok mathematically. Also latest figures I have are from 2015 are that caravan fires accounted for 0.76% of all attended fires in the UK. So assuming your car is parked next to your van, the probability of your car catching fire while next to your van is 0.13%. Is that a good enough risk assessment?

It's not all about the initial cost, I'm away on a club site next week and it's going to come in at just £20 per night on a HS. I've looked at a 'commercial site' close by, Haggerston, and while it is half that price for the same period, and apart from the horror stories I heard from one chap next to me last week at the Edinburgh site buts that's second hand, it is £9 extra per car and £3 per dog, sleeping is not permitted in any awning. Not sure what the deposit/refund is but when booking they try and sell you insurance at £5 to cover yourself against losses. Also you can only book for 3, 4, or 7 nights, arrive after 12 but be gone by 10 ( early even for me).
Yes it's cheap then but the same pitch over BH is £41 per night against the £30 I'll be paying for a SP on a club site!
Pricy for club sites? I don't think so even at double I know what I'm getting on a club site, and I'm sure it's far better. But everyone has to make up their own mind on that.

We are finding that the other club is far more reasonable for us these days, with the age discount and shorter peak periods. We had 18 nights away over Easter on 3 very good sites, on hardstandings, all well under £20 per night.
All 3 sites had excellent facilities, our only criticism would be that the HSs are sometimes narrower than CAMC ones, so in that case, if you have an awning up, the car has to go either on the grass or across the front of your pitch.
At £17/18 per night, I can live with that!
Due to the high site fees, we are planning on using only one full CAMC site, and one racecourse site (twice), in the rest of this year. Our other sites will be CCC (2)and CLs (6).

Remember to cancel that club site within 72 hours DD.
Out of interest, what is "just a few pounds dearer" in real money?

In the summer, we are using 3 commercial/private sites and 2 CAMC sites. Again, location is one issue. The other issue is the ability to book a hardstanding pitch. On both the CAMC sites, I have booked a serviced pitch which guarantees me a HS on these particular sites. Nothing to do with the cost.

Cost is important to us, as well as facilities & location. We could not afford to go away as often as we do, 250+ nights a year, if we had to pay the high price of most club sites. This trip we've booked 2 CC sites and 10 CLs so far with a couple more to book before we get home, which will, in all likelyhood, not be CC sites.

Have just spent 7 nights at an outstanding CL in Suffolk. Wildmeer Farm, Mildenhall. Outstanding secluded glade with not only EHU, but water and waste disposal for each pitch.
Total cost for seven nights £84, - yes £12 per night. Included was unlimited Sunshine as well!

I am even more financially challenged, half Scott, half Yorkshire...... just not sure which half is which! As for club sites being expensive or otherwise, the not particularly cheap club site at Knaresborough was full all weekend, and apparently more or less fully booked this week too so it cannot be over priced. we were there too at the weekend and happy with what we paid given all the facilities and its location.
