Wardens Reserving Pitches for MHs in Wet Weather

I would be most vehement should it be thought that I should utilise a grass pitch so that a hardstanding be kept available for someone who has not yet arrived.
Not that I have any pitching problems with grass pitches. Three tonns of Land Rover, ground mats, winch, ground anchor all means I'll not be getting vehicle or caravan stuck. (We go to play in far more serious conditions than the Caravan Club could ever produce). What I object to is having to walk through mud all the time, especially in the dark, and even more so having to change footwear when getting into caravan again.
However, last month in the Wirral many hard standings were under water, as well as the site roads - and all were in use! As for the grass pitches . . . . even walking on them one was sinking!

Not all Continental camping is sunshine and perfect pitches! This is Honfleur ( Autumn 2017) and the only usable part of the campsite: the Owner came round in the morning with planks to help everyone get off site. We needed wellies to get to the loo!

Have we lost sight? Isn't this about those on the ground attempting to manage pitches and the site in challenging conditions in their best attempt to maximise member satisfaction? Not an easy task I'd bet but worthy of us trying to work with them and each other surely!

Agree Micky. Folks need to remember that some of the Club Site land doesn't actually belong to the Club as well, and it may be part of the contract that the pitches remain grass. I think Marazion, possibly Godrevy might be like this?
Funnily enough, we have just had a wander around our local Bunnings store today, and came across a roll of artificial grass, extremely lightweight as well, and we might get a roll so that coping with the Club's steel slag fetish is easier on soft feet and delicate paws! I shall make a "please do not mow" sign for it as well!

Agreed that this too would be one aspect, one way of managing the site and its pitches. Of course that sudden and unexpected downpour just minutes before your arrival may dictate that juggling act of pitches and 'units'. And sometimes just a day, or even a few hours, given the right conditions of respite and relief from rain, can alter the nature of the ground completely. Managing ground conditions may not always be as simple as we think and a little understanding and give and take from us may, in actual fact, be helpful to all and aid that satisfaction we so actively seek.

We were cancelled recently due to ground conditions. It was only a night stop, but I much preferred that to potentially getting the van bogged down. We booked elsewhere. To me that is the way ground conditions should be managed, particularly at this time of the year. There is only a short term gain in keeping them open and ending up with pitches ruined for weeks.
So if some or all grass pitches are not viable for both Caravan and MH at a mixed site, cancel on a last booked basis and just use the HS.

You're right there F.
While it's good to debate things on a public forum I much prefer the real world of actually voicing an opinion in person. In eight years of using those cones to manage pitches I've never been asked or had a complaint in relation to what I'm doing and why.
I'll bring what I mentioned upthread that it clearly states in the club handbook the rules regarding pitching. The warden may allocate a pitch in times of bad weather etc.
As for staff coning pitches for friends, I've not witnessed that, don't see the need and if I was a member that concerned about it I would be asking the staff, quite simple really. It's a bit like the speeding thread, blown out of proportion completely.

look on the bright side, looking at Rocky's photo, awning sales are bouyant ....yet most don't float
competition: can anyone spot a caravan without one....?

As the level of the floor (and gubbins attached to it) is higher in a motor caravan than a trailer caravan, surely the trailer caravans should be prioritised to the high ground when there is the prospect of flooding?

I can only see one car. He seems to have been aiming at a late departure.

On aires and sites that segregate motorhomes from caravans the spacing can be much less generous than that shown in the photograph. But it seems to be what a lot of motorhomers expect. I have been on an otherwise empty carpark type aire and had another motorhome park alongside about a metre away. They can't understand why you don't like it.
