Why not abroad?

BB - I think part of the problem with this thread was caused by the rather careless use of words by the OP, whether a new or returning member. He/she has since restated it in subtler terms but the damage was done then and added to by the usual few posts suggesting that there is something superior to touring "over there" rather than "over here". In truth, it's about time that folk accepted that there is no better or worse, only different and where one tours is simply down to personal choice.
As for my old sparring partner Kennine, I'm pretty sure he's perfectly able to speak for himself and gives as good as he gets. I thought there was a bit of teasing going on, (about his "occasional" use of the forum and "always being right") and I'd really be amazed if he found any of the comments offensive. But there was certainly nothing as "distasteful" as suggestions of "xenophobia" and "fear of driving on the right. "

It hasn't affected ours HD! I am sure we can still get dog biscuits at a reasonable price over there! However, the dogs just don't want to go!

Or maybe the rising price of fuel over there?

I did ask Cassie and she wagged her tail so I took it as a yes again and agree that fuel prices are now about the same as here in France where a lot of overseas disembark.
But no, the value of the £ will not affect us, although I can see it as an important part to play for some.
I'm more concerned which country to flee to when Putin unleashes his fury

Sometimes, ignorance is bliss. Not having enjoyed the perks that others have, i.e. Cheaper fuel, then it isn't a consideration. There is often a huge variance per litre in fuel across locations on this island, but it has never prevented us travelling, or enjoying ourselves.
When we first toured, in a tiny camper van, we often saw how far a tank got us, then mooches around in one location until the next pay day arrived, and we then filled up again and moved on. The joys of being ex students, newly employed!

I cannot resist the temptation of six weeks in France. First, my French language skills would deteriorate without time there. Second, I find the French ambiance totally beguiling, Third, the scenery is stunning, Fourth, I love the distances, Fifth, there are fabulous sites often almost empty out of season. Sixth, I love the ferry crossing.

France appeals to me as well. Full of history and castles I know about, and want to explore. Plus as you say, if you can speak French, all the better!

France for us whenever we can manage it.
1. Maintain the language skills.
2. The sunshine and often 30C in the South.
3. Enjoy the crossing.
4. We find the French ambiance totally beguiling.
5. Stunning architecture.
6. Fabulous caravan sites often almost empty out of season.
7. Beautiful and uncrowded scenery.
Health issues kept us from going last year and we missed it so much.

last year it was all gloom and doom regarding the prices of package holidays to Spain - how they would be so high this year? But we have booked again and it's the same price as last year for actually a better hotel.

You said all singing and dancing in your post ,and that and at least two others are just that so what is your idea then
Ps Ferry.Meadows has next door (100 yards) a big country park with Golf/Sailing/Cycling/Steam Railway/2xCafes and miles of walking and cycling even into the Lovely City of Peterborough without going anywhere near traffic,

I was rather sceptical when we booked Ferry Meadows for a few days, but have to say, it was a great place to stay. So much to see and do, especially for families, but plenty of quiet space as well around nature reserves. And of course that steam railway is very special! It really is a place you can park up and not need to go far to do something different every day! We paid something like £14-£15 per night, well worth it.

Not wanting to stick my nose in but you have just about described one of our favourite sites, however ours is in France and it has a pool as well only 16€ a night right up to first week of July.
This argument comes out every year on CT, there are no winners or losers just folk enjoying their holiday/hobby their way.

Personally I hope you all stay in this country and don't go abroad.
Then there's less chance of the Boulangerie running out of baguettes in a morning whatever time we get up.
On the other hand, we can't drink the wine lake by ourselves ......
