I've still got a Singer machine with a handle, keep it as a spare...wink

Our Mum's made all our clothes and we learnt to make them too.

My Mum's post war wedding outfit was a coat tailored from an army blanket. Luckily it was dark brown, not khaki.  smile

We had 3d for the Sunday school collection, but for some it was difficult to pass the sweet shop run in the front room of a local house by an elderly lady who sold sweets from jars every day of the week.

And  I  remember,  as  a  right  'green'  apprentice  climbing  my  first  telegraph  pole  in  deepest  winter.  Boots,  jeans,  great  big  heavy  overcoat  and  very  heavy  leather  safety  belt  to  manipulate yell .

Not  sure  which  was  worst,  the  cold,  the  fear  or  the  sheer  blooming  weight,  and  that  was  before  I  got  down  to  working  out  why  I was  up  there  at  all  !

I remember when we had to leave an eggcup out the front door so that the Milkman could cover the Silver top to stop the early morning birds nicking the cream off the milk.

I remember when I went to the dentist as a child to have a tooth extracted, the big black mask covering my nose to put me out. I was so scared   -   but I got the dentist back, I wet myself in his chair !!!!

I remember one particular visit to the dentist. It was a two bus ride and like Paulsy  I had a general anaesthetic and whilst under the gas I relived the whole journey right up to the moment I sat in the chair. I woke up just as I was getting into the chair in my dream.

On another occasion I had an appointment to see the school dentist, I got as far as the door and bottled it.

I remember when my dear old mum used to warm a house brick in the oven for me to take to bed when I was little....she would wrap it in an old sheet and put in my bed to keep me warm.

I remember when we had to paint on whitener for our white canvas school plimsoles, had a distinctive aroma, I wonder if that is still available to buy.
