Deliveries to site from supermarkets

I reckon they'll have done that already. We all know that the very few of us old codgers on CT are in no way representative of the membership as a whole.

Bit patronising M - there’s a difference between having to have it and preferring it. And the difference is maybe choosing another holiday option.
I suppose once upon a time people couldn’t understand, maybe the previous generation to you, the need for electric hook ups, hard standings and a laundry room to wash and dry clothes etc, but it seems to me most people on here like some of these ‘luxuries’, and possibly would choose other holiday options if they weren’t available.
What makes me laugh is that there are some posters on here who would like certain changes, able to book hard standing, is one example. They are quite happy to encourage that to be made available to the users, because it suits them, but someone else asks for something they want and it’s instantly attacked as a needless, undesirable and bad idea. 😂
If the club allows shopping deliveries, then surely the people who don’t want it don’t have to use it, and as some people are so fond of saying on here, if they don’t like the resultant affects on sites, they are free to leave.😁

a) the evidence doesn't seem to support that
b) good, demand exceeds supply as it is
c) what about safety?

So the young family that does not have a caravan decide to buy one instead of an 'all inclusive summer holiday because they can get a Tesco delivery? I think not.
They need EHU because that is the way there caravans are set up and gas is dear.

Many, young and old would prefer hardstanding but that does not seem to put them off using CC sites.

You seem certain that 'young families' want food deliveries. Maybe they do but I have no evidence of a great desire for much of their caravanning time. Have you? Or are you thinking that they would rather than knowing? Are you as guilty as you seem top infer others are of 'knowing what is best and what everybody should have'?

Third paragraph, I think you might find it wasn't about change but more to do with their accounting and failure to pay the bills?
We are as it goes trying to find a way forward with deliveries when we get back next week. It will obviously be site specific as access is the key issue in trying to maintain a safe environment.

a very good post +1

So, not a failure perhaps to realise that 40% (and rising) of toy sales were now online and that led to loss of sales, along with huge store/staff overheads which then lead to 'accounting and failure to pay the bills'...?
similarly with Maplins, although they have an online business, it's difficult and very expensive to support both stores, while half your sales are online, and an online business when half your customers don't visit the stores.....they are competing with businesses who can sell the same product (cheaper) as they are online only...
i made just such a purchase yesterday.....read a few reviews, checked the spec, checked the price, click....free deliver in a couple of days.
yes, had our local Argos (inside Sainsbury) had something similar in stock at the same price I would have got it there....but they didn't.
Retailing is very tough these days....making change at the right time to go with (or be ahead of) the market is hard, takes management skill and balls....
however, your last paragraph bodes well....taking a look to see if its viable and where.....exactly what's been mooted upthread yet dismissed by some as not viable.....
not a service I want but if thats what the punters want, lets check it out, nice one

Yet sufficient (perceived) demand, it seems for JK to be 'trying to find a way forward with deliveries when we get back'.....

Not just me BB, but I'm willing to look into it. Personally I don't see that the perceived demand is that great. As an example, last year we had over 42000 people stay on site. I had three, yes three requests for a supermarket delivery and I had to deal with two asda vans driving wrecklessly around site (we don't have barriers). That's a small percentage. It will be different of course in other areas and times of year I can only talk of my experience on my site.

Some of us, old or young like to get away for a bit of a change on holiday, we don't want to see more traffic and reminders of daily life at home. We don't want to worry more about children running in and out of more vehicles. Who will be ultimately responsible for increasing traffic problems on site, more drivers who don't notice 5 mph signs, more noise, more pollution from running engines etc etc.

just shows we are all different,
But I really get the impression that perhaps you think club sites are a resort? where you stay on site all day? You really think that?
From what I have seen I would say that most of the time families go off site for their 'entertainment' during the day and use the site as basically a mobile hotel room. Even the 'older generation' go off site most days as well.
We have walked in the lakes and Scottish mountains, we swam in the sea on north south east and west coasts (though not for very long I'll give you that), we visited and played in castles, visited tourist cities, towns and villages, tourist attractions... I really don't see any difference in using a LV in the UK to abroad apart from distance. The same pattern exists. The 'adventure' here and abroad lies outside the site.
Oh and outside the UK we fly.

Thanks for the post - it's good to hear what really happens from people who actually stay on club sites

It's always good to hear what really happens from people who actually stay on club sites? Rather than what should happen by people who don't?
Post edit, sorry was supposed to be one post above but user error

Do you mean that deliveries would be allowed at all sites but arrangements would be site specific. Or that deliveries would only be allowed at certain sites.
If the later, would this not lead to confusion, with folk just going ahead and ordering, because they had on the last site.
1 -
I'm not sure Steve, it's this leading to confusion that will be the decider I think. Our input will be down to finding a safe area to park and deliver if possible, or not. The powers that be make the decisions don't forget, not us at the sharp end
My personal opinion from my experience is " go and support local businesses"

yes so exactly the same as over here then!
But that's not what you said:
I see the CAMC sites as tidy and respectable dormitories for the older generation but for a family holiday I cant think of anything less like an "adventure"
Are you saying your kids did all that swimming and walking and 'adventures' while you did the chores?
PS we never prepared picnics and everyone washed up and helped.
1 -
What are you saying 'JK', we as customers can't think straight and are easily confused when traveling to different sites. I might not be the brightest compared to 30 years ago, but even I can think of ways to ensure I can get an answer on deliveries to site before making that call to Tesco, or wherever.
Just don't allow delivery drivers on site, what happens outside is not the Wardens concern. Just make sure the sign is clearer than the CL ones.
2 -
So your saying that delivery vans will not be allowed on site roads, just at a specific area?
