Hope it doesn't get too bad Kj and TG, stay in and keep warm. I've got my shoe grips with me and haven't used them for years! The snow has compacted here in York and it's very slippy in places.

Thanks brue, looking out the lounge window its just a normal winter's day, snow on the ground and vehicles, road has snow on it but its only a village back street so no snow clearance. I believe the main road through the village is better.

The main problem comes when we get one of those horrible showers, total white out while it lasts then everything has to start all over again.

The Red alert takes our route through to the airport. As they are advising folk to go home early the traffic will be very light on the roads, so not enough to keep moving the snow out the way or for the salt/grit to be effective (so they say) even if we do manage to get to Glasgow there is no guarantee that the flight will go but at least if we are there we won't be out of pocket for failing to turn up.

Take care walking around you don't want any slips or falls.

Just spoken to our son who stays in East Ayrshire, NE of Kilmarnock, out in the middle of nowhere, they have much less snow than us.

The kids went to school this morning (school bus) but were delivered back home at lunchtime, and school is closed tomorrow as they are expecting things to get worse.

He works from home, and his wife was only working Monday and Tuesday this week, so they are all safe at home and hunkering down for what is to come.

We seem to be in the middle of the "dark red bits" and getting the worst of it right now....we can barely see the house across the road.   cry

Things are even bad down in the city, SIL's school is closed, he would never have made it across town anyway.  Their baby is due in 6 days, just hope he does not decide to put in an early appearance!

It looks as though we'll be hitting more problems when we get home and our steep bendy drive way will be like the cresta  run. What fun!

We're stuck here at Poolsbrook CAMC Site.  Due to go home today but decided not to risk it.  Waste pipe and connecting hoses from the tap to the aquaroll have frozen up so I've taken them off.  Even the site taps are beginning to freeze up, so we're at Morrison's buying provisions and bottled water in case were left with no water.

Just emailed everyone cancelling my Thursday night practice.  Let's see what the next few days bring!

    Stay safe and warm everyone.

I for one, and I bet I am not alone, really appreciate your contributions particularly when you can give us an insight into what is really happening  as opposed to what people think is happening! It is a shame that more wardens don't get involved, although I think there are a couple who contribute now and then. However I can understand that you perhaps have to be careful in what and how you discuss things. It's just a pity we don't have more contributions direct from Club management but then again the disgraceful way the Chairman was treated over a fun TV programme I suppose it's hardly surprising?

I've noticed with Herdwicks, Goldie, that they really do not like to be indoors. SIL had a nephew who farmed them in the North Lakes and they hated being brought down for any reason, even if it was to save them from the worst of the elements. Real hardy sheep. I love 'em.

You can always check out their website? http://www.dotrythisathome.com/

As far as I am aware they were paid by the Club for a series of Stories and articles on their lifestyle but when that ended they did not continue with contributions to this forum, they just moved on.

    Brue

Not my intention but just offering an opinion on why management would be reluctant to comment here. What was interesting about that episode and also the change of name was the number of posters who had never posted before and have since disappeared. I am sure the regular posters had their views on the matter but I suspect the were more careful in how they expressed themselves because they have a longer term interest in the forum.

What a strange day today! This morning we were set to go to B&Q but there was a complete white out so we decided to think about it later. Quarter of an hour later bight sunshine!!! We set off and yet more snow. In the open garden section they had lots of plants covered with netting. You would have thought they had one of those snow machines that they use to make Christmas Supermarket adverts in the summer. The wind was causing the snow to blow everywhere! I needed to buy a new stopcock for my outside tap because when I went to turn it off the other day it was stuck solid. The guy I spoke to in B&Q, suggested I try to loosen the collar of the existing stopcock to see if it will allow me the get the valve going. When we got back I put some more grit and salt down. I have had a couple of sacks of the stuff in my garage for years, knew it would come in useful one day!!!

Still more of the same here, temperature has just dropped to -6C with more heavy cloud piling onto the coast from the East.  Guessing we will get the next dump of snow shortly.  🐧☃️🌬

Hope you get it sorted soon Pete. We're relying on water containers in the van, but at least have the electric heating. Just heard it's -7 at home with snow forecast but still hoping to get back if we can. Hope DSB is OK tonight too.

Nothing on the tele so Mrs WN asked to put a cd on.

So I opted for The Antartic Symphony by Vaughan Williams. Funnily enough she's just asked put something a little warmer on, so a nice piece of Spanish guitar has replaced it. Still feels cold though.

Just been informed by Thomas Cook that our flight to Lanzarote tomorrow morning has been cancelled for at least 24 hrs frown still better to know now than once we have set off. Tenerife flight also cancelled from Glasgow.

OH now ringing  car hire company to let them know and car parking at Glasgow.

Brue stay safe tonight, can you not stay on a bit longer in York until the worst passes?

DSB, think you made the right choice.
