RADAR Keys

My wife has had two replacement knees and it will be several months before she is fully mobile again. It has been suggested that she gets a RADAR key for use in the UK but is there a similar facility in France? In fact, will the UK key be usable in France? Using the French squat type toilets will be near on impossible for her and not everywhere has UK style loos available. Thanks in advance.

My husband uses a Radar key in the UK and we holiday in France each year. We've not come across disabled toilets needing a Radar key or similar in France, all disabled toilets seem to give free access (when they are available). Provision for disabled toilets varies a great deal across France - some superb others dismal or non existent. However don't let this put you off, things are not a lot different to the UK.

On a similar note, parking for disabled people has got much better in France over the last few years. Dedicated parking is clearly shown with blue parking bays, both at supermarkets and in town, but this assumes you have a Blue badge!

Oh and if you do have a Blue badge don't forget to display it. We forgot just the once at a supermarket and returned  to find someone had scratched the whole way down the side of our car needing four panels resprayed on our return!

Cath has a blue badge and a radar key. We've used the blue badge more when traveling in our car in France, especially when stopping en route and parking at hotels. When camping in our motorhome, we've found that many campsites in France have toilets reserved for those with disablities, with easier access. Campsite owners/staff have always helped with allocating suitable pitches as well.
